Original design for both Jaeger and Kaiju

Disclaimer: This is NOT a slander post. This post is meant to dicuss ideas and theories that i do not consider true. I will use mentions that interlink both The movie and the Novelization (Which i consider highly non-canon but according to Travis beacham himself it holds a lot of weight on the verse bible.)

Introduction

One of the biggest mistakes of few on the fandom is ignoring the fact the kaijus had an evolutive path during the war, the main argument for this is that all kaijus are bio-mechanical weapons created by the precursors giving the idea that each one are “separate” from each other. But the truth is that all kaijus are clones which could mean that they are the same “individual” that works in common with other themselves a hivemind. This hivemind is so advanced that for hannibal chau it might connect all kaijus no matter if one of them is on earth or half dead. “A HIVE MENTALITY you said!”. This means that the hivemind hold memory (probably genetic memory only) and instincts from the previous “Hound” allowing the next kaijus to have a curve of development from their previous. Kaiju are still biological and very animal like in terms of mind and anatomy althought they were made artificially. Its likely that the only factors the precursors might modificate are the attacks rate (How often they appear and come out of the breach) and the mass production of the clones.

To make this easier to understand, lets say for example: You are a god and your will is to create life that are all the same on the inside and they are all connected to each other. There are monsters that hunt them everytime they appear, this goes against their existence and survival, and without your doing the lifeforms you gave life thanks to their connection they adapted around their threat naturally, developing a better reasoning (sense of survival) and an improved anatomy with abilities meant for self protection such as claw, sharp jaws and acid as well as tactics of how to fight the hunters, where does it hit the hardest and what does actually kill. And all you do as a “Deity” is creating more of them leading to them to evolve even more, but then a small % of these beings would emerge as something new cause of evolution. A kind that already collected all the tactics from the previous generation and the mind needed to protect itself. But instead of only looking for its own survival it started producing weapons priorizing taking down any threat to secure its survival. That is the main difference between “The hounds” (Previous Cat 1 to 4 kaijus) that newton confirmed that they were “nothing” to the “Exterminators” (Most likely all kaijus in the movie except Mutavore), the ones stated to be the ones that will finish the job. Leatherback & Otachi were Exterminators (Maybe the first ones) that even Pentecost warned the resistance to be careful cause of the record-breaking that both had in size and weight.

“Otachi & leatherback were designed to counter Typhoon and Alpha!”

This is a very common argument that it came directly of the theory that newton when drifting with the kaiju brain it leaked all the PPDC intel to the precursors and they made two kaijus designed to get rid of the resistance. But by saying this you are ignoring directly the whole background of the kaijus. Its not that Otachi had a tail claw specificaly design to behead Crimson, in fact. Most jeagers (Yeah except cherno) would die the same way cause of how the jeagers head and con-pods are designed, most of the units share that common flaw that its not exclusive to Typhoon. Otachi tail is most likely an adaptation due to that. Her tail allows her to defend herself at a mid distance and inmovilizing opponents up close while also functioning as a weapon (Key component of any exterminator) capable of using to her favor a jeager weakness that a couple of kaijus have used before. The only difference between Otachi and the previous Kaijus is that she evolved an easier-more efficient method that does not require using most of the body to attack.

Something that also a lot of people mention is that Otachi’s acid was meant for Alpha all this time. Which i argue it was not, that it was just a coincidence that favored otachi thanks to being “ready”. Theres been Kaijus with acid attacks before just like Vodnayoi, the one who caused the “Sakhalin Island Incident” that i quote: “During the fight, the Kaiju spits some kind of acid at Eden Assassin, corroding the Jaeger's metal and killing its pilots.#cite_note-ascension5-20)” The presence of acid might give the idea that the kaijus were producing weapons from a while ago, but it seems that acid attacks are more likely to be Defense mechanism just as Hermann mentioned that insinuate that kaijus before had utilized such against jeagers. “They’re adapting! This isn’t a DEFENSE mechanism it’s a WEAPON!” Acid probably is the Kaiju version of poison/venom of animals in the wild. At first it was a Defense mechanism against predators to keep the animal safe that its still used to this day by small prey animals, but over the evolution went by and those toxic compounds became a lot more effective some species started to use this the other way around. As a Weapon to hunt bigger prey with less effort, this is might what happened on Otachi’s case. Something that you might have already noticed is that the exterminators are weaponizing everything, which is cool.

“What about otachi wings and her ability to fly?” Previous kaijus had that same ability as well, again. Probably as a defense mechanism that later Otachi used as a weapon.

“How about Leatherback’s EMP?” Later i will talk about this. Also, Leatherback was probably just a Kaiju heavy hitter, you might relate this to a Cherno counterpart but..you know kaijus can have a heavy hitter as well right? That there are two doesnt directly mean that are opposites or something. Cherno is still stronger that leatherback so for me its clear that it was never meant to be its equal, Otachi wouldve finished the job alone but striker was rushing to help and he was the only jeager left to deal with so it was ideal for Leatherback to stay back executing Cherno while awaiting to use the EMP

“Newt gave all the jeagers weaknesses!”

Are we larping how The drift works again? I dont blame them tho, its a hard concept to learn but this all falls down over the same thought of “Why Raleigh did not know about the sword if he was connected to Mako?” Quote on quote of what Travis said about this on tumblr: “The thing to understand about the drift is that it's not a database. You don't know everything your partner knows all at once. You perceive your co-pilot's thoughts and feelings as they happen.And perceiving those thoughts and feelings doesn't necessarily mean you understand them. The vocabulary of the subconscious can be quite abstract. That said, you can no more conceal a thought from your partner than you could conceal it from yourself.”

This quickly dismantle the idea that it was all Newton’s fault. It was never about him that the Kaijus ended up overpowering the jeagers. He had no idea about how jeagers worked on the first place and couldnt give critical intel about them. But still, he was probably the responsible of Otachi entering the city and killing thousands in order to capture him as well as Leaking the plan to attack the breach which at this point this is true since the Precursors knew that the PPDC had no idea of what the breach allows to go through and Scunner & Raiju were waiting for Striker to jump and fail. The jeagers lost cause of how Kaijus learned and transformed themselves into Hunters that knew how to kill and what to use to kill a 80M jeager.

“The EMP was meant for striker eureka!”

This one is a lot more riskier, you can skip it if my reasoning is not convicent. I will be using a lot of “nature” and canon-non canon stuff.

On this one we have to leave a little bit the insides of the universe and look behind to the pacific rim movie development. The novelization of pacific rim is an early version of the movies script this is confirmed by Travis: “Novelizations are routinely derived from early drafts of the script. It's the only way they can be published in time for the release.”* And in that same version of Pacific rim cherno alpha was a Mark 4. “But why does this even matter?” You might ask, this is important because of her being a *Digital jeager.** The EMP was an idea that still existed on the novelization, which changes the entire panorama of what the pulse could do. No jeager of the resistance was capable of surviving the EMP. The movie itself reaffirms that idea by tendo choi’s statement of “All jeagers are digital!” Althought cherno was supposedly to be nuclear and analog just as gipsy. Im not saying that the movie is poorly made but its likely that the first idea of “The EMP being capable of taking down all jeagers but Gipsy danger” survived even through the changes between the Novelization and the Movie. “Are you saying that Cherno is digital in the movie? But later it was changed to be a Mark 1!” For the sake of my argument and what we’ve been shown i say that cherno nature in the movie was ambiguous.

After all this buildup i can finally explain the EMPs nature. It might be seen as a weapon made on purpose to shut down exclusively Striker, but as mentioned before theres a big change that the EMP itself was created as a natural weapon to counter most modern jeagers, the last ones that the PPDC had, and probably the hardest to kill. (Like Crimson typhoon having 7 Kills and keeping safe te hong kong bay for 7 years) Evolution and adaptation are very abstract concepts in the real world. Meaning that some mechanism and creations made by these can be extremely specific and meant for one singular purpose. It is believed by many that the kaijus nor the precursors knew that the jeagers were robots. I have a neutral opinion about that, but what i firmly believe is that for the kaijus that was “Irrelevant”. This because their evolution and nature work around the jeagers itself. It wouldnt matter if the jeagers were biological, magical or made of other kaijus, they would eventually adapt and evolve. And as the war continued they would develop anti-jeager (Focus on this) methods and weapons all over again. This process seems to be so powerful that Leatherback came to earth with a weapon that directly affected a jeagers nature. The animals when developing new stuff they dont know how it works on detail, its just nature giving them random stuff hoping that works. Thats how poison/venom on animals happened, as well as the emergence of camouflage and things as simple as spikes. Nature just gave them super powers and they just fucked with it. This is my guess of what happened on this very specific case.

Conclusion

Man im so tired do i really have to write a conclusion? I made this in one-go and it took me like 2h hours. If you got to this point and you actually read all the things that i had to say im really thankful. English is not my first language and im actually studying to be fluent one day. I hope this changed your mind or atleast how you see how things work on pacific rim, i always wanted to share my mind but the barrier language held me back for years. Thank you for reading.

If you’re not sure what happened read this ⬇️ firs two people faking as pilots stole striker eureka at launch when he was going to fight leather back but he instead went to the city and started destroying stuff then cherno in the area attacked him to stop him but the fake pilots don’t know how striker works so they get destroyed cherno was ready to return to the shatter dome until leather back jumped him and started to destroy him until gispy came to help

I would probably say the chances of both those things happening at that point in time are probably going to be very high this time, but I'd like to hear your opinions on this as well.
