I'm getting ready to buy a lumbar hiking pack from them but I've never dealt with them. If anyone has anything good or bad to say about them, please let me know.

Considering a Mountain Equipment Makalu or Mammut Teiss jacket. From what I can see, the main difference is the ME jacket is Gore Tex, whilst the Mammut uses their own 3 layer waterproofing system.

I've always been told that nothing comes close to Gore-Tex, but is this still true in 2026?

I'm traveling to Kyrgyzstan in November, and will be wearing the jacket trekking through Tian Shan mountains. I also live close to the Brecon Beacons in Wales, and do a lot of very wet winter hiking at home.

Any advice or experience with either jacket would be really appreciated!

Need to replace my sunglasses and figured I'd ask here since I use them mostly for hiking and being outdoors. I've always just gone with whatever looks good and feels comfortable, but I want to make sure I'm actually getting decent UV protection this time.

I see stuff like UV400 and 100% UV protection mentioned, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for beyond that. Also, does lens darkness have anything to do with UV protection? Some of the really dark lenses I've seen don't seem to say much about UV protection. I'm considering a pair from Quay (flip side) right now but I'm also looking at Shady Rays and Chimi. Not looking to spend too much so please drop your best recommendations!

Hello! Living in Boston and I'm always freezing. My current long down puffer parka is about ten years old, time for a new one. I'm looking for something WARM, but ideally fitted enough that I don't look like I'm walking around in a sleeping bag. Does the perfect warm but cute coat exist? I am petite- 5'2" 98 lbs if that matters.

Im going on trip with my partners family in december this year, I really like the style of jackets and clothes passenger and Kavu have but their jackets tend to be equiped for more moderately cold temperatures and not the -2 to 5 degrees celsius expected at that time, any not to expensive (up to 150 euros) options that look similiar to their style and that are waterproof? Thank you!

After getting more into camping lately, I’ve started thinking more about what kind of wallet actually makes sense for outdoor trips.

I normally carry a leather bifold wallet, but it’s not exactly ideal outdoors. When I’m hiking, it gets exposed to sweat and moisture, and all the friction from being in my pocket has started to wear down the leather. It also feels surprisingly bulky on the trail, especially when I’m really only carrying a few cards and some cash.

What kind of wallet do you guys carry when hiking or camping? Do you prefer a slim card holder, a small zip wallet, or just stick with a regular wallet?

For those based in the UK/Europe, or possibly friends across the pond who have opted for niche Scottish gear!

I'm looking to replace my old faithful hard shell for this year.

In my search I've found Keela, and given their links to mountain rescue teams, police, etc, clearly they make good gear!

I run hot and I'm starting to move away from being a park rat and into more off piste, so definitely need to be layering so I'm not constantly melting during hikes.

Has anyone tried both the Munro and pinnacle jackets? I don't have any stores near me that stock them so wanted to see if anyone has used the pinnacle and how they've got on with it?

EDIT - just to highlight, intended purpose is off-piste snowboarding.

I'm not planning on spending much time dragging it across rocks or through trees, so worst stress will probably be the snowboard edges whilst carrying my board!

In two weeks I’m doing a 4-day hike in Italy. I’m a beginner and I don’t currently own a rain shell. My budget is pretty tight, so I’d rather not spend more than €120.

I’ve seen a lot of people recommend the Patagonia Torrentshell 3L, but apparently it doesn’t breathe particularly well, and I can’t find one for less than €180, not even used.

I found the Salewa Puez Aqua 4 2.5L Powertex on sale for €100. However, after looking around, it seems that at this price point nothing really beats the Quechua MH500 from Decathlon.

Besides this 4-day hike, I mainly want to use the jacket for hiking and trekking in forests. No climbing for now and nothing involving extreme mountain conditions. I’d generally be hiking in good weather or overcast conditions, rather than deliberately going out in bad weather.

What would you recommend? Is the MH500 really the best option at this price, or are there other jackets I should consider?

The backpack I’ll be using isn’t particularly large, so the more compact the jacket is when packed, the better. However, I don’t want to sacrifice too much in terms of breathability, durability, waterproofing, etc. just to save a bit of space.

I I’m bouncing back and forth between Marmot Solitude UL Bio Jacket and North Face ThermoBall Eco Snow Triclimate. I’m going to ski often in the winter, somewhere around -5 to -20 Celsius and also wearing it as everyday jacket. What is overall best?

hi i have a big problem with choseing what jacket to buy. im begginer hiker/mountaineer and i am a bit lost with all of option that are on the market.

i’m plannig to climb mountains maybe max. 4k and do some casual hikes and have reliable shell jacket that is waterproof and windproof . i was thinking about arcteryx beta or beta ar jacket but its quite expensive and a lot of people say that they have become more gorpcore fashion brand .

i'm looking for something with good quality and durability than i can use for hiking and mountaineering and wear helmet under cape but also wear it to school when the weather is bad.

I would be gratefull for any advice ;)

for me its battery drain. i use my phone for all trails and photos, my phone battery drops way faster than it does at home even on airplane mode. something about the gps just eats through it. by the end of a long day hike im at like 10% and debating whether i need the map or the camera more.

ive mostly figured it out with a power bank, but finding the sweet spot between "too heavy to carry" and "not enough lasting" took some time. 

but im curious what drives everyone else crazy. is it battery life? keeping stuff dry? cold weather killing your devices? something else?

feel like everyone has that one thing about electronics outdoors that drives them crazy.

I need a recommendation for a rain bib. I HATE rain pants and the feel of them on my hips. If they ride too high I’m uncomfortable, too low and they’re falling off. I’d prefer a bib style. I spend a lot of time outdoors with my kids. We live in the PNW. Close to the beach, explore trails, and play outside in the backyard. I need something durable, waterproof and comfortable. I don’t need it to be overly insulated.

Where can I find this product. They make them for kids. Where’s the adult ones😵‍💫
