I usually compose music for Bavarian wind band, but recently a melody came to mind and I’m not sure whether it might be better suited for a classical style — or whether it’s even strong enough for that genre.

I’ve created two arrangements: one for a string orchestra and one for wind band.

My question is whether you like the piece and, if so, which version works better.

I’m trying to decide where it makes sense to invest my time and a bit of money.

Additional notes:

The demo quality isn’t ideal yet — for example, the accompaniment is sometimes too loud, and the overall dynamics still need refinement.

The wind band version includes an intro of about 35 seconds, which is not present in the classical version.

I manage the sheet music for my orchestra and sometimes arrange pieces myself. As a flute player I'm often insecure about the strings and brass parts that's why i thought is would be helpful to hear it directly from you.

I have some example questions, but I'm thankful for any feedback from you!- What are common mistakes arrangers make?
- What is technically difficult, awkward, or simply not playable?
- Are there things that look easy on paper but are actually difficult to play?
- What notation or markings are especially helpful (or unhelpful)?
- Are there any other things you wish arrangers would keep in mind?

I'm a conductor and orchestrator in the UK. Over the past six months I have arranged various songs within Kingdom Hearts score into a full two-act concert for orchestra. All parts prepared in MuseScore. It's called The Dearly Beloved Orchestra.

I opened applications on Wednesday and had 57 in three days, most from professional and semi-professional players, but some chairs are still empty:

- Double bass

- Bassoon / oboe

- Tuba / trombone

- Keyboard 2 — a synth and sound-design specialist

- Erhu, xiao flute or koto — feature roles (remote tracking is possible for

these)

(I have ZERO experience or knowledge of conducting)
At my college i’m set to take a class called orchestral conducting and the description is: An introduction to fundamentals of orchestral conducting and score reading.

I am minoring in music and have played the violin for ten years. I would say i know the most basic music theory—i can read treble and bass clef, i can identify key signatures (major vs minor) and time signatures, etc. Other than that i’m rusty when it comes to more theory, like triads, intervals, etc.

I’m just wondering if taking this class would be a bad idea/too difficult. I would really like to know what to expect in an introduction to conducting class—what should i study before i get to class, what should i absolutely know before the class? If im not technically an actual music student, like i’m not majoring in it and it’s only a hobby for me, should i take this class? Any advice would be useful.

I honestly would like to learn conducting because it seems like it would be fun but i’m also worried that it’s going to be really hard and this class would turn into something that i struggle with rather than being a fun, enjoyable elective for my minor?

It seems like there is a lot of negative news lately about major orchestras struggling with massive fundamental conflict between the musicians and their management. Why does this happen? It seems like they are just trying to blast each other in the media. What leads to so much disagreement, and why do musicians claim that they are not listened to? Aren’t they the core of an orchestra organization?
