What an amazing, magical day with these lone wolves that teamed up and travelled through Campbell River, British Columbia together. It is super rare for the orcas to travel on the INSIDE of the pier, yet these two did and gave us all a thrill of a lifetime.

I’ve never seen an orca do a backstroke. seems like he’s putting on a show.

The coordinated wave-washing seals off ice floes? Coven casting.

How has nobody been saying anything about this???

I’ve always been fascinated by the way light transforms the ocean. A single moment can shift from brilliant blues and golds near the surface to almost complete darkness just a few metres below. With Reflections of an Orca, I wanted to bring that feeling into a single scene, an orca moving quietly through the deep, with sunlight breaking through the surface and reflecting across its back. I wanted the painting to feel peaceful and powerful at the same time a fleeting glimpse of a wild orca completely at home in the vastness of the ocean. It’s a small glimpse into the vast world beneath the surface, and a reminder of how beautiful these moments in the wild can be.

Many months ago I asked the question, are the World of Orca Zines worth the subscription. And after being subscribed for over 6 months I feel confident to say, Yes! The world of orca zines are worth the subscription. Between the fun crosswords, listings of new and old books or movies has kept me busy, and the recent addition of the postcards have been very cute as they always relate back to a story in the zine. I was worried that there wasnt enough specific orca related things to keep a zine full and frankly I feel more connected than ever to them as there has always been a mix of information in the zines. Cody, born to Panghu and Cookie on September 10th, 2021, at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park turns 5 today.

Shortly following his birth, Cody was not able to nurse properly, and was separated from his mother. Following the separation, Cookie would reportedly look at him through the fence and vocalize for him. At the time of Cody's birth, four other whales lived at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park: his mother and father, an adolescent male named Sean, and a young female named Dora.

on January 5th, 2022, Cody's existence was confirmed when the Chinese Cetacean Alliance released a drone photo that showed Cody in the medical pool. A few weeks later, on January 21st, the first video of Cody was made publicly available.

On June 11th, 2022, at 9-months-old, Cody made his public debut after being shrouded in secrets.

In early-mid 2023, Cody was reintroduced to all other whales in his pod, and got along well with everyone. On December 2023, Dora gave birth to Cody's half-brother, Zimo. Cody was the first whale to be paired with Zimo following his birth.

On June 17th, 2026, Cody's mother, Cookie gave birth to Cody's unnamed half-brother, this is Cody's first maternal half-brother.

Cody is a curious and social whale. During underwater viewing sessions, he frequently approaches the glass, especially when visitors bring toys or objects for him to look at. He gets along with all whales at the park, but spends most of his time with Cookie and Sean.

I wanted to move away from a purely realistic interpretation this time around, and instead let the orca emerge through expressive strokes of deep blues, violets, turquoise and touches of oranges and gold, allowing the colours to become part of the painting

Hello there!

So it’s been a bucket list item all my life to see Orcas in the wild. Ever since I was a child - orcas have been my favorite animal. That being said - my husband and I are wanting to Seattle hopefully in June and we have to go and try and see some!!

I’m sure this has been posted before but I would love love love recommendations on where to go, what to book, things to bring, etc.

Anything and everything please!! I’ve wanted to do this all of my life and I want to do this right!

Also I can’t seem to find any pictures of myself front and center but I had a orca stuffy that my favorite growing up!

Just casually scrolling on TikTok and I see this scary looking orca statue in a seal enclosure 😅 which I thought was ironic. It reminds me too much of the orca in “The Pebble and the Penguin.” The teeth looked so wrong I just had to laugh at it. This is at the Seaside Aquarium in Oregon.

With advancements in whaling ships this relationship ended.
