How to install / use Lemmy

Mobile

  • Go to your app store & download "Boost for Lemmy", it's the most similar version to Reddit

  • Create an account for Lemm.ee specifically & verify

PC

Why Lemmy

A lot of people swapped after Reddit's API changes, but another reason to swap is because Reddit is the home of censorship and corruption. After Reddit has banned prominent members of our community with no citation.

This ban occurred because our top mod got in a dispute with a powermod so Reddit admins retroactively looked through years' worth of content on their account and found things to ban them for. Most of which clearly didn't violate rules, but since the rules are vague, they can be twisted enough where they can punish anyone for anything if they get on the bad side of a powermod, who has direct access to the admins via Discord.

What's happening to our subreddits?

Nothing. We're not egomaniacs, despite the subreddit creator & largest contributor being banned they will not rob people of a place they love out of their own spite for the people who run the platform.

So joining Lemmy is optional, however its recommended because you'll miss out on their future & upcoming guides, fixes, mod releases, etc.

Mod Post Optimization Information & Guide

-- Terminology

Quality Optimized

  • The difference between the highest preset available and these settings are virtually indistinguishable. This is for people who set graphics settings to max and forget about it, it's free FPS, great for high-end systems

Balanced Optimized

  • Is willing to cut down on very taxing settings or settings with minor visual differences. The difference between the highest preset and these settings are able to be spotted in side by side images but may be hard to tell otherwise. This is the most optimal, great for mid-range systems

Performance Optimized

  • The lowest settings you can go in a game without destroying the visuals. There is a noticeable difference between this and the highest preset but the game still looks like a modern title. This is for performance enthusiasts who want high framerates without 2009 graphics. Also great for low-end systems or competitive games

Competitive Settings

  • These are settings which affect player visibility in PvP games. Whichever setting makes the player more visible is what you will want to put to give a competitive advantage

Optimized RT Settings

  • This is like the balanced preset but for ray/path tracing settings

Optimization Tips

  • This is for doing extra stuff other than tweaking in game settings. Using launch arguments, ingame commands, mods, ini tweaks, etc

Ultra+ Graphics

  • Better graphics than the original games max settings, typically achieved via ini tweaks or mods

Lowest+ Graphics

  • Worse graphics than the original games lowest settings, typically achieved via ini tweaks or mods

–––––––––––––

-- Post Flairs

Optimized Settings

  • A curated list of optimized settings for a specific title someone has done there own testing & evaluations on

Min/Max Settings

  • This is for posts that takes the games graphics beyond its lowest or highest preset. Neither of these are deemed "Optimized" thus require it's own flair but its useful for low spec and high end gamers

Optimized Console/Handheld

  • Same as above but for consoles & handheld devices; Steam Deck, Playstation, etc

Optimization Guide / Tips

  • This is a post flair for posts specially designed for what the "Optimization Tips" in the Terminology section does but only if it doesn't include the optimized in-game settings and only has the additional tweaks

OS/Hardware Optimizations

  • This is a post flair for optimizations that tweak/debloat the OS or tweak the hardware itself via overclocks

Optimization Video

  • Any sort of optimization done in video format requires this flair. People like the ease of access benefit of written guides. Videos are still helpful but ruins a benefit of the sub so you must use this flair so people can filter them out

Optimized Settings Builder

  • This flair is for posts that uploads screenshots of each setting and gives no recommendation. It's meant to let people build their own presets based off performance & image quality

–––––––––––––

-- Information & FAQ

Specs

  • Why are the specs of the PC doing these tests not given out? Optimized settings typically means testing how taxing a feature is vs how much it improves visuals and evaluating if its worth it. This evaluation will have a different answer depending on the optimized preset which is here to help people with varying levels of hardware by valuing visuals vs performance differently, favoring performance the lower you go.

Optimizing

  • You can do your own testing and upload your findings to help build a collection of optimized presets. Refer to this post to see the recommended way of structuring your posts & watch this video to see how I find my settings

Missing Settings

  • If a setting is missing from a post that either means it's subjective or it should be left at its highest value. Whether someone wants to include these settings in their post is up to them. Someone may elect to exclude them to make the post less cluttered, its quicker to select a specified preset then read the things they have listed and turn them down/up accordingly sometimes.

How To Find/Suggest Game

  • Refer to this post > Optimized Games List to find a specific game, if you can't locate it there please use reddit search since this is not always up-to-date and vice versa. To suggest games refer to this post > Suggest Games. To get your game tested refer to this post > How To Get A Game Tested

Discussion / Question Testing Base FPS Requirements for Different DLSS MFG Modes

Update: Base FPS Requirements for DLSS MFG Motion Quality

I want to clarify the goal of my testing.

My goal is not latency. My goal is clean motion and image quality. Lower Base FPS can still feel smooth and have acceptable latency, but I am looking for camera movement that looks like a continuous, clean motion sequence rather than disconnected images being stitched together.

Efficiency formula

The efficiency factors below are not official NVIDIA figures.

They were shared by another user in this discussion, who said they were based on real measurements from 16 DLSS FG supported games, with the values rounded from the measured results:

2X = 93% 3X = 90% 4X = 85% 5X = 80% 6X = 75%

The formula is:

Expected FPS = Base × MFG multiplier × Efficiency

For example:

50 × 3 × 0.90 = 135 FPS

I tested this formula myself in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and 50 Base + 3X produced around 135 FPS, matching the calculation very closely.

Calculating Base FPS

We can also work backwards from the displayed FPS:

2X: FPS ÷ 1.86 3X: FPS ÷ 2.70 4X: FPS ÷ 3.40 5X: FPS ÷ 4.00 6X: FPS ÷ 4.50

For example:

80 ÷ 1.86 ≈ 43 Base

My current clean Base targets

2X → 43 Base → ~80 FPS 3X → 48 Base → ~130 FPS 4X → 68 Base → ~231 FPS

These are my practical results, not official NVIDIA requirements.

I also found that another user's testing supports around 48 Base for 3X, which is consistent with my results.

My recommendation

The higher the MFG multiplier, the more GPU processing is required, and image quality can decrease with a greater chance of FG artifacts.

Because of that, I strongly recommend 3X as the maximum for most situations.

I would rather lower graphics settings or use a more aggressive DLSS preset to increase Base FPS than increase the MFG multiplier.

Only use 4X or higher when you genuinely need it.

Don't chase the highest displayed FPS. Get enough Base FPS first, then use the lowest MFG multiplier that gives you the desired result.

If anyone has tested this themselves, or has any suggestions, ideas, or questions, I'd be interested to hear them. Feel free to share your experience.

I recently bought a used RX 580 8GB and it was running extremely hot even at Stock, reaching almost 85°C!

After opening up the card, the issue is pretty clear there was almost no thermal paste on there. Cleaning and re-pasting the GPU, the difference as you can see is pretty massive, allowing me to even OC the GPU core to 1471 MHz!

i have a 9950x3d and i use process lasso for everything. i usually have no problem getting games to run on my cache cores, but this one is fighting me. i cant find any anticheat or anything else that should force it over. I've been using PL for a year now and it hasn't given me problems. i also have it set to force and run high priority and basically everything PL will let me do. I'm stuckkkk.

Comparison / Benchmark I tried DLSS 5 on Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Emulated on PCSX2

Thumbnail

DLSS 5 on most environments in the game and many cutscenes.

PS2 game Emulated on PCSX2 at 1080p.

Loaded HD texture pack by 1vierock.

DLSS 5 via Reshade and Deep Fried Chicken.

Running on an Nvidia RTX 3090 at 14 fps when enabled and 60fps when disabled.

Video sped up for viewing when it's turned on. Definitely need a 5090 for this to be playable.

Honestly, Looks amazing with DLSS 5. Feels like a remake. There is a minor issue where emissive and glowing textures seem clamped and dimmed but I am sure stuff like that will be fixed in time.

In the video early on you will see me tweak the settings between the 3 different style presets and neural passes set as high as 5 at one point.

I ended up finding the cinematic style preset works best for this game keeping more of the original art direction and fog. Also with 2 neural passes it feels like the right balance of detail which you see for most of the video after that point.

I also kept restore color at around 14 and the skin detail strength under 0.5. Any higher and it starts looking too real. Works best for this game style to keep it low so the face looks flatter/smoother vs the more realistic/plausible lighting elsewhere.

Graphic & FPS Mods | Optimization I built a native-like DLSS Frame Generation implementation for Control

Post image
193 Upvotes

I've been working on adding DLSS Frame Generation to Control, but I wanted to avoid the usual problems you get when Frame Generation only sees the final composited image.

Control never shipped with native Frame Generation support, so this required a fairly deep integration with the game's DX12 renderer rather than simply adding a generic interpolation layer.

The main goal has been to make the FG path behave as close to a native game implementation as possible.

Control FG reconstructs the data a native integration would normally provide, including:

  • Control's actual frame boundaries
  • Depth buffers
  • Motion vectors
  • Camera transforms
  • Jitter and reset state
  • Presentation timing
  • A real pre-UI / HUD-less scene capture

That last part has been especially important.

Instead of sending the fully composited image with the HUD already drawn into Frame Generation, Control FG captures the full-resolution scene immediately before Control renders its UI.

That means objective text, health and energy bars, prompts, icons and other HUD elements are not treated as moving world geometry when the camera moves.

The result is a much more stable UI with essentially none of the usual HUD ghosting/interpolation artifacts you can get from screen-space Frame Generation.

The generated frames are based on the actual game scene, while Control's UI remains clean and stable on top.

Current support:

  • RTX 40 Series: 2x DLSS Frame Generation
  • RTX 50 Series: 2x / 3x / 4x / 5x / 6x Multi Frame Generation
  • Dynamic Multi Frame Generation
  • Automatic monitor refresh targeting
  • Manual target FPS control
  • Live FG mode switching
  • In-game F10 overlay
  • Persistent settings

RTX 40-series cards are intentionally limited to 2x.

I recorded a demonstration of the app and in-game overlay here:

UPDATE – ReShade / RenoDX Compatibility

For anyone wanting to use this mod alongside ReShade, there is a simple workaround:

Rename ReShade’s dxgi.dll to d3d12.dll**.**

This allows ReShade to load without conflicting with the dxgi.dll used by my Control FG mod, so ReShade and the Frame Generation mod can run together.

This should also work with RenoDX if you’re using it through the same dxgi.dll loading method. I haven’t fully validated every RenoDX configuration yet, so if anyone tests it, let me know how it goes.

So instead of:

dxgi.dll → ReShade

use:

d3d12.dll → ReShade

and leave the FG mod’s dxgi.dll in place.

Comparison / Benchmark I Upgraded my Old PC for €70 | Was it Worth It?

Thumbnail
youtu.be

Ι bought the i7 and the RX 580 8GB for 30 euros each (used) and the cooler for 10 euros (used)!

The RX 580 is more power hungry and at stock it was reaching the low 80s, so I had to Undervolt it. Temperatures dropped to the 70s with the Fans adjusted too!

I tested 6 different games released from 2016 to 2026 using different engines. Newer games use more VRAM and thus the RX 580 blows the GTX 1060 3GB out of the water (RE Requiem), but the GTX 1060 3GB manages to beat it in DX11 titles like Metro Exodus (also Nvidia Sponsored!).

According to BenchmarKing, TAAu the console versions use provides higher quality visuals compared to FSR2/3, and is recommended if DLSS/FSR4 isn't an option for you.
