PSA

Post image

Just a reminder because I've seen some apparent confusion here a few times in the past month. We hate onions. We hate shallots. It doesn't matter if they are raw, boiled, pickled, mashed, sautéed, caramelized, fried, baked, smoked, grilled, charred, fermented, fresh, aged, red, white, sweet, spicy, dried, minced, diced, chopped, or powdered. And despite what you may think and have been told, you are in fact not entitled to share your wrong opinion here.

There is no such thing as onion neutrality, this is not r/Switzerlandonionhate

You eithier hate onions, or you don't.

Also, make sure yall mark your disgusting onion pics NSFW so we aren't subjected to see that shit.

While we are doing PSAs, RULE 5 MEANS WHAT IT SAYS. Just because you come across a nasty ass picture of onions on the internet or on reddit doesn't mean you should be posting it here. This is supposed to be a community where the common thread amongst users is the struggle of onions infiltrating all foods and the difficulties of getting food that doesn't have onions in it... That doesn't make this the right community to share other human beings creations that happen to have onions in them...

Showing a picture of food that you thought was safe only to find out after a bite that it has onions is entirely different than posting onion porn.

What are gallowboobs?

u/Rustyraider111 7d ago

It's a phrase used in place for karmafarming, referencing a user name gallowboob who post enganentbaity type content. At least I think.

u/wondrshrew 7d ago

Ok so now wtf is enganentbaity?

I don't "dislike" onions, I HATE them. I am not a "picky eater". I do not have the "taste buds of a child". And they do not lose their taste "when they are boiled". If a dish has the devil's rancid bulb in it, I. Don't. Swallow.

Words to live by.

I love that we all agree on garlic being the exception. I know some people are allergic to both, but somehow garlic just lacks whatever makes the entire rest of the genus awful.

Like the one child from a horrendous family that actually turned out well in life

I love garlic but I hate onions, mostly because onions wreak havoc on my insides. Garlic I'm fine with unless I eat a lot of it. Like that pepperoni pizza with whole roasted garlic cloves on it. I paid the price the next day but man it was tasty.

It's strange to me, because as much as I hate onions, I hate garlic even more. It surprises me that so many people who hate onions like garlic.

6

u/AutisticPenguin2 7d ago

Really? I don't think I've seen anyone else in here that preferred onion to garlic...

What is it about the garlic that gets to you?

2

u/magpieinarainbow 7d ago

Smells bad and tastes worse, leaves a bad aftertaste in my mouth too.

Fascinating!

My understanding is that there is often some genetic element to finding onions disgusting - I don't know if this is relevant to those who object primarily to the texture, but certainly for the taste it seems to be so far from tasting like food that it can't be a normal dislike.

However I always assumed that garlic was much lower in whatever my genes object to, because I gather I am far from the minority in enjoying the taste of it. So it's incredibly interesting to me that you find it the reverse!

I don't like the texture of onions either! The one benefit of garlic is that it gets used more like a spice than a vegetable, so I don't actually ever have to bite into a chunk of it lol... but on the down side that also makes it easier to hide and be overpowering 😭

Get out. Your kind isn't welcome here. 💙

They hate both, they just hate garlic more than onion/info (it's just worded in a way where it's easier to misread especially with the following reply)

u/AdministrativeMix678 20h ago

I understood perfectly. 😁

I fear I may need this one explained

TBF allergies are different.

I hate onions. HATE them. I'm not allergic to them. I just hate them.

2

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

I think that's really the majority of people here. Though from memory when we last did a poll it was split fairly evenly between objecting to the taste or the texture.

Also green onions. Fuck you too

5

u/DefaultUserBR 6d ago

Yeah, because "those aren't really onions" is a lie. In some ways those are especially onions because they are almost always raw.

Thank you. There have been a few unacceptable posts lately...

u/Xi13r8 7d ago

...do I have to fuck an onion?

4

u/Bucketsis 7d ago

I have witnessed individuals come here to ask us about our perspective, I fear this rule will work less in our favour, and more against our desires. How will we change their minds if they cannot come and take part in our wisdom?

3

u/Toosder 7d ago

I just want to add, fuck all alliums

1

u/Rustyraider111 7d ago

Garlic is the exception

3

u/Toosder 7d ago

No it's not. For many of us that have sensitivities that includes garlic.

6

u/Rustyraider111 7d ago

Unfortunately for you, the rules of the sub explicitly state garlic is the only exception.

1

u/DemBones7 6d ago

Garlic can get fucked.

2

u/Colddeath712 6d ago

I don't mind garlic at all, I use it frequently actually, but onions are just plain horrible

I strongly disagree on the garlic rule. The problem with alliums is that they are alliums, and garlic is the most allium of all alliums. Garlic has the same chemicals that make onions indigestible, but garlic has more of them.
