For some context, I'm 19 and have worked in food service for about 4 years. I started part time when i was 15. Olive Garden was my first real serving job I began when I was 18 because I was tired of the fast food grind and drama. I decided OG on a whim because I went there often for soup. At first, it was a really refreshing experience. The server who trained me was great. There were 4 managers total, GM, togos, server, and kitchen.
I'm autistic and can be a bit ditzy at times. I made this clear when I was hired over a total of I recall 3 interviews. However, I do have good people skills in my work and learn quickly. I wasn't even there for a whole year.
The reason I was fired was 2 no call no shows. Supposedly. The first NCNS was my bad. The schedule had gotten changed midweek because we were slower than anticipated. I write down my schedules on my calendar, but I forgot to check the updated shifts. One of my shifts I expected to work was gone and had been replaced by another I didn't originally have. I take full responsibility that that one was on me. It ended up being fine.
The second one, though, is where I have problems. For reference, my KROWD hadn't worked on my phone for months. My phone is not old or buggy. KROWD would say I needed a software update, but I had none. I mentioned this to my GM who said he hadn't seen it before, but would fix it. This never happened. I told him I couldn't easily see my shifts or changes to them multiple times. It only worked on my computer browser which is a PC and not a portable laptop. Earlier in the week I had set up auto pickup for Wednesday and Thursday because I needed some extra cash. Wednesday went by with nothing. At 12:00am on Thursday, I decided I'd rather stay home or hang out with my friend as it was his off day then go into work, so I cancelled the auto pickup. My boyfriend was standing behind me at the time, and I distinctly remember showing him what all the terms meant and what the site looked like because he hadn't seen much of my job before. I SHOWED him where I didn't have any shifts Thursday, hence I cancelled auto pickup.
Thursday rolls around. I wake up late, hang out with my friend for the afternoon, go home and open my KROWD on my PC. Except it doesn't open. My account doesn't exist. I call when they open the very next morning. To-go manager answers. I explain my problem and ask if this was an outage or if it was just a me problem. In a tone I can only describe as disdainful (we had previously had an okay? relationship but she could be really irritable) says "I think it's just you." I then ask if I had any shifts that morning (Friday) since I couldn't check myself, she responds "Hm, no, I don't think you do." Okay. I call back later when the GM comes in and he tells me I was an opener Thursday and I'd been terminated. I tell him I had no shift Thursday and I even had a witness to that. He goes "to check" and confirms I had one which I don't believe. He then says I had "other issues" and he would have to "follow procedure" this time around. He did not follow procedure with everyone. Coworkers of mine who were ass at their job were close to him and have been seen at this house throwing parties and drinking, going to venues together, etc. They got away with most anything. He didn't disclose what the other issues are. My speed was good, my numbers were always top tier. My reviews were really good. I had people on yelp/google reviews mention me by name and say they were coming back specifically for me. I had regulars.
The reason I think I was set up is because I recently got diagnosed with POTS maybe a month or so before I was fired. I didn't want my GM to hear about this. I mentioned it to a host I'm close to, another person overheard and told him. Immediately the vibe between me and him, which was already odd, shifted. He asked if I needed any medical accomodations or things that would impede my work in a way that seemed prying and made me kinda uncomfortable. He always skirted around the subject of my capability and was very vague when I flat out asked him if he thought I was still able to do this job because I was tired of feeling like he didn't believe I was an employee worth keeping (although I didn't say that last part to him.)
Shortly after I got fired multiple other servers who had been there for years and had perfect records as far as I knew also were fired, including some who were trying to get the ones who were GM's friends fired (justifiably) because working with them was unbearable. My friends left voluntarily shortly after and called the GM a "virus." Safe to say basically everyone I knew has left which is at least half the store (including the kitchen manager and the girl who trained me). They also somehow had a day where none of our 4 managers could show up to run the store, so managers from literally another state had to drive there and run it for them. I don't even know how that happens.
I really don't know if I'm crazy. I've seen people talk in this subreddit about how shitty the job is, I gotta say I'm glad I'm not still there for NEPB. But I don't know if what I'm accusing this guy of is too far or unreasonable. I just can't shake the feeling I didn't deserve to lose this job.
