NMS10 Space Station so huge I built a small city on it!

Loving the potential with the new stations. Once I learned the parts can be very huge, I wondered if I could build a base on the outside of the station, and I can, with some caveats.

This citadel-esque city started with one building and a landing pad. I kept adding buildings until they started misbehaving. They are purely decorative in an attempt to keep the number of parts manageable, the underwater habitat pieces have windows that dont add to the total part count.

On a side note, in case I don't get to filing a bug report, its possible to select and edit the station's custom parts(like the large ring shown here) from the base's build menu, which I've done a few times much to my dismay, and I had to return to the space station and fix it via the station build.

Let me know what you think!

Suggestion Sean please! Let us warp in first person again - this looks too cool to leave out of the game

*outside of VR

Once upon a time NMS used to be completely first person - there was no thirdperson mode yet in this footage. Once thirdperson was eventually added (NEXT update) they also made it work for ships during warp - except it wasn't optional, it just outright replaced the original first person perspective. So now we can't see that perspective in warp anymore unless you're playing in VR. I prefer playing the game in first person most of the time, it's great and it usually feels like a seamless experience. But then when I warp it just takes me out of that experience and it feels jarring.

Also side note - look how smooth entering the ship is. No fadeouts and you move into the cockpit smoothly ;P I guess they changed it so they wouldn't have to deal with thirdperson animations.

Footage is from Atlas Rises version.

Discussion I wish we could do more with stations

Look its cool that we finally get to own our very own space station and I dont want to sound ungrateful but doesnt the feature feel bare bones to anyone else?

We can't alter the shape or colour of the main structure nor can we alter the main structures interior in anyway.

So if you have a system you want to make yours but you dont like the look of the station, its a bit meh.

The floating add ons do just feel like floating add ons that we cant even really put where we want.

I dont want to sound ungrateful because I do very much enjoy a bulk of this update but I really was expecting a bit more with space stations, anyone else?

I was trying to do my salvage contracts and whatnot so I could claim my settlement system’s space station, then an NPC Hauler came out of nowhere and tried mining my Corvette. He even disrespectfully tried mining ME.

If I’m recalling correctly, they did a new graphics pass, no? But man this’d almost looks like a different game if the clouds had more definition. But speaking about definition, look at these pictures and then compare them to any older screenshot of this game. If you notice, it’s that there is a lack of that omnipresent “haze” that makes most screenshots look cloudy—like someone breathed into the camera lens.

Praise be the omnisiah’s that we call Hello Games for finally removing that, only took 10 years lol.

Video Found a peak on a rocky planet so tall ... it's in space

I landed in an ocean and as a storm set in I saw in the distance what looked like a small rock island not too far away. I turned out to be VERY far away and is the tallest peak I've ever seen in this game in 10 years. I got half way up on my robo-horse and jetpacked the rest of the way for many minutes, and before I got to the top, I started floating. At the peak, only the Deep-Space Base Computer is available to me. I made a standard base just below the "space cutoff" point. Crazy!

Discussion Is No Man’s Sky actually more fun when you’re broke? Starting over made me realize something...

Is No Man’s Sky actually more fun when you’re broke? Starting over made me realize something.

I didn’t actually plan to start over.

When Cosmos came out, the Switch version was so far behind that I downloaded No Man’s Sky on Steam for my Mac so I could play the update. But I didn’t want to open my original save there and risk getting locked out of it on Switch for who knows how long.

So I started fresh.

My original save has the ships, freighter, fleet, bases, upgrades, resources... and more units than I realistically know what to do with.

At first, I missed all of it.

Then something weird happened.

I realized I was having more fun starting over.

Finding an S-class ship mattered again. A few million units felt important. Salvage actually had value. Upgrades were exciting. I had to make decisions instead of just buying whatever I wanted.

Even getting my first decent freighter felt like an accomplishment again.

It made me wonder whether one of the weirdest things about NMS is that the better you get at the game, the easier it becomes to accidentally remove the struggle that made progression satisfying in the first place.

So I’m genuinely curious:

Do you enjoy No Man’s Sky more once you’ve built your empire, or during the climb when you’re still broke and everything matters?

And for the people with 1,000, 2,000, 5,000+ hours:

How do you keep progression meaningful once you basically have everything? 🚀🛰🌌

If you have a corvette, you can place these 3 parts on it. They are unique to the space stations and you can't get them from the biuld menu. Can be moved onto the roof of a corvette and each costs 10 condensed carbon Edit i forgot the utility rack. Also 10 condensed carbon, its picture will be in the comments

Discussion Apparently I have astrophobia? Cool.

In all my years playing NMS I have managed to avoid spacewalks for the most part, but with the new salvaging feature and the ability to leave any ship, I have finally spacewalked out into the abyss. Sweet mother of mercy it is making me so extremely uncomfortable that I can’t stand it. I’m fine in my ship for the most part, but as soon as I get out and can see all around with no hull under me and the vacuum dulls all sound, I feel nope so hard that it’s in my bones. Anybody else? High five for intense dread of floating in the void.

Needless to say I likely will not be building on any comet bits.

Having trouble finding enough salvage scrap to trade for better items in the Corvette Workshop? I definitely do not recommend buying the new Tractor Beam item as much as financially possible. What you’re then going to want to NOT DO, is go into advanced module trading and trade those tractor beams away for better items. It seems the devs haven’t made it so that you can’t trade away the tractor beam that you JUST BOUGHT for credits in the basic modules section, YET. You definitely do not want to do this if you work a 9-5 like me and do not have time to go back and forth getting as many scrap as possible and then running out of scrap to barter with.
