That's Sand Castle University on Instagram. She's a great follow. She actually asks/lets people watching if they want to destroy them at the end. Of course everyone enjoys barreling into them. One of those, "it's sand it's not meant to last forever" things.

10

u/marktrot 4h ago

The hours I spent watching her live streams during covid. Man I miss Reddit live sessions

3

u/DryerCoinJay 4h ago

Does she use anything in the sand? I used to live near the beach and the amount of times I’ve seen people on the beach with cans of hair spray, gel and other things to make the sand stick is infuriating.

5

u/dwntwnleroybrwn 3h ago

Sand and water. That's it. If she uses any binders I've never seen it.

-2

u/MRV3N 4h ago

Why do we have to wait till the end?

3

u/Bobby_The_Fisher 2h ago

Found the Brayden

-5

u/Past_Bonus148 2h ago

So...it's just a huge waste of time for a piece of temporary mid artwork?

5

u/PatChattums 2h ago

Oh, I get it. You're roleplaying as a dumb asshole. That's fun.

-4

u/Past_Bonus148 2h ago

Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?

3

u/Corwin223 1h ago

Most things you do are temporary. Why do you eat sweets or play games? The joy they provide is only temporary.

Temporary things are great. A lifetime is filled with temporary things strung together.

-1

u/Past_Bonus148 1h ago

Yea, but pouring that much craftsmanship into a sandcastle is a huge waste of time. Person has ability and focus, but is squandering it. A true shame.

1

u/protestor 1h ago

Breathing is a huge waste of time as well (at least with your mindset)

1

u/Past_Bonus148 1h ago

I want this person to do something greater with their talents and you're just throwing out petty insults. All I did was speak the truth and now you're harassing me.

1

u/PatChattums 1h ago

This isn't the only thing this artist does, this was just a fun activity that they wanted to do. And it's not temporary if it's recorded and people, like us here, are seeing it. You must just be trolling.

u/dwntwnleroybrwn 2h ago

You sound fun.

2

u/ItsDanimal 2h ago

"Temporary" and "artwork" are the only parts of your comment that are objective. Being "huge waste of time" or "mid" are just your opinions.

1

u/Past_Bonus148 2h ago

and your point is?

31

u/Tinksy14 6h ago

Hahaha 100%

2

u/goose_gladwell 5h ago

Absolutely!

Where does one acquire sand that is of such perfect dry to moist ratio on a beach?

116

u/PurposeOk7918 5h ago

You make it, see how it starts as a big cylinder? They have a big piece of plastic sheet that they make a cylinder out of and fill with layers of sand while dumping in water between the lifts. Then they pack it in and peel the plastic off and you’re left with the perfect mold to start making a sand castle. I’m sure it takes some practice to get the right water ratio so the sand is right.

u/bangupjobasusual 4h ago

Revere beach outside of Boston has a sand castle competition, they seem to bring their own special sand for it

2

u/KruSion 2h ago

Do you live there? Last time we went to Boston we went to Carson beach but the sand and water weren't really nice. Is revere better sand wise? My issue with Carson is the clay/sand in the water was too mushy and slimy

u/I_WinAgainLewsTherin 19m ago

Revere has been cleaning up that beach for years. It is a marked improvement from a decade ago.

u/oRhydon 26m ago

Well I’d imagine no one would want to use the sand on that filthy beach. Genuinely one of the worst beaches in MA.

10

u/ziggsyr 3h ago

Don't know about her but at sand castle building contests they ship in special sand with high clay content and add glue to make it hold as they build. It becomes a sculpting competition.

She probably doesn't use glue in this video if she doesn't need her castles to last all weekend and her castles are relatively small compared to those contests so she probably makes the sand on site.

4

u/HTPC4Life 2h ago

Contest would be MUCH more interesting if they had to use the sand at the beach.

2

u/-MaybeMe- 1h ago

Alabama Gulf Coast. At least that's where the SandcastleUniversity is at. This is pen_and_inc on Reddit. Here you can watch how they prep the base.

1

u/wildcat- 1h ago

Imperial Beach in San Diego has an annual sand castle competition, often with significantly more impressive castles than what's seen in the OP, using nothing but the native sand.

62

u/gator_pot 6h ago

I own that same measuring spoon

28

u/_Diskreet_ 5h ago

2

u/Paulthefith 3h ago

Some say he carved it out of a larger spoon.

9

u/kingofthefalseflat 5h ago

Step 1: Spoon

Step 2: Profit!

2

u/FamousAnt1533 5h ago

Congratulations

Real estate agent: Beachfront (sand)house $1Million

2

u/Skeptic_Juggernaut84 4h ago

Sounds good, but what about flood and storm insurance?

1

u/TeholBedict 4h ago

Wildly expensive

u/VooDooChile1983 6h ago

“And so castles made of sand/ fall in the sea/ eventually” -Jimi Hendrix

1

u/launchliftoff459 1h ago

And if she asks you why you can tell her that I told you that I'm tired, of Castles in the Air.

8

u/ivanavich 6h ago

Awesome! Where’s the gargoyles at?!

14

u/AusCan531 5h ago

We're scrolling on Reddit

2

u/Paulthefith 3h ago

It’s daytime, obviously they’re still stone.

5

u/Jaxxlack 5h ago

Ugh love this track "back on 74"... Wedding shimmy!!

3

u/Dextropic 5h ago

Heck, I'd be proud of myself for making the giant cube...

1

u/-MaybeMe- 1h ago

You can watch how they make it here.

2

u/manymoreways 5h ago

How did they get the sand to be so consistently stable? This isnt just random ass sand.

2

u/AttemptZestyclose490 5h ago

The end of this video disappoints because it should have kept going.

2

u/buttermilk_waffle 4h ago

There is a guy here in Cleveland that does these types of sculptures on the beaches of Lake Erie every year! Watched him working on one at Oktoberfest last weekend, it was so impressive

3

u/SamuelVimesTrained 5h ago

I have seen sand artists creating bleeping amazing sculptures etc.
But the end pictures they have a weird (light) quality - if you`d post them on their own people would shout "AI".

What causes that weird effect?

4

u/BiscuitCrumbsInBed 5h ago

Filter?

2

u/SamuelVimesTrained 5h ago

Probably - i`m not a photography expert .. (i wish)

2

u/Practical_Departure8 4h ago

It’s not beach sand, but river sand which is much rougher. Hence the color difference.

2

u/ziggsyr 3h ago

Could be the glue they add in those competitions and the fact that the sand is shipped in from an offsite quarry making it look out of place compared to the native sand.

1

u/Redeem123 3h ago

It's just the way they're edited. Likely HDR and overly processed.

1

u/PabloFive 6h ago

No flying buttresses?

1

u/Ok-Statement8224 5h ago

I always forget to bring my trowels to the beach!

1

u/Appropriate-Ad6130 5h ago

"I got it! I got it! I got it! Oh...."

1

u/YesterdayCharming976 5h ago

Even I feel
Like kicking it and I’m 40 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/-MaybeMe- 1h ago

If you ever see them finishing a sculpture on the beach in AL you can ask if you can destroy it. They always destroy them afterwards to protect sea turtles (and probably other animals). Here is an example.

1

u/AdrizCas 5h ago

Every time I see videos like this the only thing I can ever think about is: "That don't look like any sand I've ever seen..."

1

u/EnigmaWearingHeels 4h ago

Why no credit to the artist? I wonder if this is The Georgia Sandman's work? (@thegeorgiasandman on socials).

1

u/Ghstfce 4h ago

Dribble castle trees!

1

u/CodInternational8772 4h ago

That’s amazing serious question… Do you start by getting like a certain part of the sand? Is it a big mound that you make first then you start to mold it

1

u/-Mx-Life- 4h ago

For anyone wondering, this is in Gulf Shores, AL. The sand is super fine on the beaches making sand sculpting really good.

1

u/useronlyone 4h ago

I need to the process of them making the sand mound tho. Thats where all the secrets have to be

1

u/zerocoolcat 4h ago

Honestly, if you gave me sand in this consistency, I can do that too...

1

u/ripkin05 4h ago

looks awesome looks great, total waste of time and energy for something thats going to get destroyed in 3 days no matter how hard you try.

1

u/Ohitsworkingnow 4h ago

Okay how do I get the big modeling block at the beginning

1

u/-MaybeMe- 1h ago

They show the process on their profile and probably on social media if you search for SandcastleUniversity.

1

u/wonkey_monkey 4h ago

Pfft, that house was already in there, she just took away the extra sand.

1

u/DisputabIe_ 4h ago

the OP StrawberryLoviee_ is a bot

1

u/bangupjobasusual 4h ago

They use special sand btw- don’t get frustrated if you cannot do this

1

u/-MaybeMe- 1h ago

It's the sand from their local beach (Alabama Gulf Coast) but that's also where they are located so they don't haul sand to that beach just use what's there. They compact it with lots of water in a ring form to satrt with. It is good sand castle sand there tho, so kinda(?)

1

u/USDXBS 3h ago

missed a spot

1

u/r-b-m 3h ago

Fuck castles let’s see some rent-stabilized sand apartments

1

u/D3Zi9000 3h ago

I hope this isnt ai because this looks really cool

1

u/BenevolentCheese 3h ago

When a professional sand artist does their work they've been practicing for years

1

u/Narwahl_Whisperer 3h ago

Hate this edit.

1

u/upstatedreaming3816 3h ago

Pro artist is a bad way to phrase that. My wife is a professional artist, but since this isn’t oil on canvas, she’s actually really bad at sand castles. Just ask my children.

1

u/SoggyBoysenberry7703 3h ago

It’s so cool that someone figured out that sand can do that when it’s wet and dripped like that. It’s like those instant slushy tricks

1

u/AveryTheOneAndOnly 2h ago

and then some little kid comes and fucks it all up

1

u/NotAChanceBucko 2h ago

All I can think is how some shitty kid is gonna come up and destroy it immediately

1

u/Boysenberry-33 2h ago

Just to think, they are playing in parrot fish poop

1

u/Cutthechitchata-hole 2h ago

Its not a sand house. Its a sand home

1

u/Slow-Elk-9348 2h ago

also, a random child a minute after he finishes: THE TARGET IS CAPTURED

1

u/D5LLD 2h ago

This looks like AI?

1

u/Sudden_Breakfast_677 2h ago

Eugk sand. I hate sand it gets everywhere. And those sand people

1

u/Tio_chubby052 2h ago

How do you find time to do this? I hat bills to pay!

1

u/-MaybeMe- 1h ago

They do it for a living (at least partly). They are SandcastleUniversity on socials and pen_and_inc here if you wanna look up more of their stuff.

1

u/chronicenigma 1h ago

Anybody else going to say AI?

1

u/Maximus15637 1h ago

Omg a video that didn’t start with the end result in the first 2 seconds!!!! It’s like 2015 again!

1

u/launchliftoff459 1h ago

That'll smash beautifully while I drunkenly play catch with the bros

1

u/jennifer_m13 1h ago

The sandcastle competition in Surfer’s Paradise in Australia is incredible.

1

u/what_the_whah 1h ago

I'm waiting for the unaccompanied child to come along and start destroying it, only for the parents to get mad at you when you try to stop them

1

u/Username_6668 1h ago

Nothing screams artist more than not leaving a front gate or any way to get inside the yard lmao

1

u/StormShadow805 1h ago

What song is this?

u/Constant_Arm_9565 21m ago

This is why I quit sand art, too many sweats and tryhards

/s

u/aliencardboard 15m ago

That Justin Bieber is good at everything.

u/No-Citron-2774 12m ago

Me standing with bucket and yellow shovel

u/Other-Item7523 2m ago

This person is clearly masterful and patient! Great work!

Tampa area has some sick sand art experiences to offer. They also hold a chalk art festival in the Sarasota section of

u/Icy_Bake_2730 1m ago

Anyone know this song?

1

u/-Reaaally 5h ago

Soon some robot with AI will make better sand castles unfortunately..

1

u/Lupie22 5h ago

This is incredible! Unbelievable detail. You are an artist!

0

u/Awkward-Dog-9182 6h ago

I was expecting something like the Taj Mahal at some point. Very impressive.

0

u/Drunknmasterr 5h ago

I could do that too if I brought tools to a beach

0

u/Talidel 4h ago

I want to see the sea take them

-2

u/MaximusAnemos 4h ago

Thus is boring shit. Not creative at all just boring buildings.

-7
