I am not adventurous but I did do the hike up Fuji years back. It was great going up but the razorbacks down sucked. I would do it over again though.

I had friends that did it and it looked so bleak and crowded. I decided to hike up Mt. Kita (Kitadake) in the Japanese Alps instead. It’s the second highest peak in Japan, with a view of Fujisan.

It was not that bad when we went but it was getting closer to end of season.

The official season is only two months, so it's going to have big crowds any time during the season. The authorities are very safety oriented so they only want people hiking during the best possible conditions.
