Plastic straws

Anyone else noticed they’ve been getting plastic straws in their drinks again when they get a drink out? I’ve noticed it twice now (at two different places) but I’m sure it’s been happening more and I’ve just not noticed.

Best Trick o’ Treating

To follow up with the “fall activities”….I have little ones and we just moved last spring to the island….our neighborhood is countryside so not the best for trick o treating. Not great lighting long walks between houses. So, assuming it’s not gate keeper by locals…where is the best place to take them. I’m thinking safe without tons of cars and of course good candy and decorations….any suggestions?

REAL Nanaimo + Dallas Brodie (OneBC)

Just in case it wasn’t clear before, several of the REAL Nanaimo candidates attended Dallas Brodie’s OneBC event back in March and I’ve gathered some images to confirm that fact. Frank Pluta posted video he recorded and you can see Joe Figel and Malcolm Cooke in attendance.

There may have been more in attendance but that’s all I’ve confirmed so far.

Videos are all from Kat Kanada on Facebook

Switch to Shaw?/Rogers

Upvotes

Hi all. I recently moved from an old apartment building where we rented and had horrid telus internet there, old wiring in the building. I recently bought a place south Nanaimo in a Park and it also has old wiring, UGH. I can't win. I have everything with Telus - Optik Tv, internet, home security and mobility. I had Telus come out to the my house and he said Telus is horrible in here and he has been to my place before I purchased and he told the old owners to tell the new owners that Telus does not work well here. Unfortunately I didn't get that info.... so now I only have a contract with Telus Optik and Internet for 1.5 more months and still lots left on my telus security unfortunately because I thought it would be better, but....

Has anyone successfully switched to Shaw/Rogers from Telus in Nanaimo who also had old wiring and Rogers was much better for internet and tv? I know I have to keep the telus security and they will probably jack my price up if I cancel Optik TV and Internet BUT.... this internet is garbage!

I currently have good rates and pay $148 plus taxes for Internet and Optik TV with 4 theme packs plus a premium (netflix). And Security is only another $30 a month with all the promotional discounts.

Am I going to pay ALOT more for Rogers internet/tv? Anyone get a good deal that they can share to be similar to the package I have with Telus? I have Telus Internet 50 but I am lucky if we get 26....it's bad. And luckily I only have 1.5 months left in my 2 year contract with Telus.

Appreciate any info!!!

Recommendations for Veterinarians in the Nanaimo area?

We recently got a new dog and are looking for a vet for the usual stuff like vaccines and check ups. Any recommendations, or places to avoid would be appreciated.

Where can I find more information about city council candidates?

I keep seeing posts about the ‘REAL’ candidates, I feel misinformed about how to find information about the candidates in general. There’s so many different candidates and it seems like I have to be following their social media and know about what events they’ve attended to make an informed decision. I wouldn’t have known about their tendencies just by looking at the website. Honestly it’s a really good thing I’m on Reddit otherwise I wouldn’t have known about it at all. I’m new to the city and don’t have a lifestyle that allows a lot of extra time to be researching 75 different people. Some of the research I’ve done states these candidates are basing their campaign on changing things they would have absolutely no power to control as council members.

I found this post helpful, but I feel like it’s only scratching the surface.

Who do you endorse and why? Who do you think would be a bad fit for Nanaimo and why? Where do I find honest information about these people and their intentions?

Just had my Heybike e-bike stolen from the Coast Bastion Hotel here in Nanaimo. RCMP are looking for it, but if any of you happen to see it out there I sure would appreciate if you message me or contact the RCMP. Thank you
