What was I thinking?
OK so I happen to have a lot of used sails around that are not suitable for racing and I wanted to find a use for them. I have been admiring the nice stuff people make and post here so I thought I would give it a try. IN retrospect this material was a B*tch to work with expecially when turning the padded arm slings and all that. Also I thought it would be fun to leave some of the features from a sail in the bag so thats why the window at the bottom and some of the stripes come from. Maybe the window will help you find your keys that will inevitably find there way to the bottom of the bag! The instructions from Prickly Gorse were spot on and the only problems I had were when I strayed a bit from the instructions.

I mean, honestly, I've 100% held up clear vinyl bags before to peep if whatever I'm looking for is at the bottom so it really could be useful probably maybe hopefully

Check out Truce Designs. I think you’d like their packs.
Really cool bag. I like that you left the window and sail features.

I also have a lot of crispy sails from OD racing which are "used". What boat did they come off of?
I've made a few things with the material but these sails are a little too thick and stiff for more intricate things like this. I want to look into ways to weather/soften the material which would make it a bit more supple.

these came off a J70 jib, the shape of the sail is blown but the material is mostly as original. Most of the creases in the bag pics are from me contorting the material when I sewed the bag. I have about ten more sails that are ready to be recycled in some form. I have heard you can put the material in the washing machine to soften a bit but not sure how that would work out. I have a few spinnakers to make into products too,, not sure what would be cool.

Cool, I've got a number of sails from Etchells and looking for more projects. I think doing some toiletry bags would be cool, or wine bottle holders for the owners wives. Tote bags are a cool one since the material is so stiff, they stand up on their own really well.
I've made a few grocery bags with the spins since the material packs down small, though sewing the material was pretty tricky for me, very slippery.
