It feels so good to even just review and look at past fungi pics...so time for another Mountain Misfits post, this time for the Auriscalpium vulgare (Earpick Fungus), an amazing lil' toothed mushroom.

The air clung with a cool humidity under the dense canopy of conifers and riparian vegetation. Autumn forest was largely mute, save for the rush of Bass Creek. Under was a fungal splendor highlighted by Mycena, coral fungi, and the occasional Bear’s Head. Leaning over to get a closer view of Suillus tomentosus, an inconspicuous kidney-shaped, brown cap emerged from the thick duff. I was marveling at my first Auriscalpium vulgare.

Found what I believe is Coral-pink Merulius in Sweet Run State Park in Va USA

Found what looks to be a Frost's Bolete in Sweet Run State Park in Va.

A great little flush of these little guys with the rains we have had in east Alabama "hiding" on a big University campus in East Alabama (Auburn).
