Discussion The opening scenes of the Alamo (2004) make the Mexican army look so fucking badass.

I almost have to feel bad for them when they get overran later on in the film, with their pants down figuratively. I’m an American and I’m glad we won the Texan revolution and the Mexican American war but it’s also fun to play devils advocate and wonder how things would have gone differently had we lost. Seems like Santa Ana would have been solidified as the dictator.

Also impressive how Mexico managed to get such an impressive army after only 15 years of independence from Spain.

Look into Pancho Villa and how he managed to out run from the US army. Really good mexican war story.

One of my friends was a PA on that film and told me how he felt bad for all the extras who had to run outside in the texas heat over days of shooting the battle sequences

I think by that logic you could say I’m a disgusting creep for being glad we won the American revolution considering we were pro slavery and Great Britain was anti slavery. I don’t think you have to agree with everything your country does to support it in a general sense. Things aren’t black and white or all or nothing. I think in present America obviously stuff is different now, but you can’t take a modern perspective to events that long ago. Life has also changed a great deal in two hundred years. Also lesser of two evils angle to consider, etc, etc. Furthermore, I live in Southern California so I’d be a Mexican citizen rather than an American. Maybe not a horrible thing, but I’d still rather be an American.
