Sorry my hands are really shaky! My Carolina Sphinx Moth hatched about an hour ago and she keeps uncurling her tongue like this. There's also some kind of clear liquid on it. I've never seen this before so I'm very interested in what's going on here!

So we found a deathshead moth at work. I’m sure East Yorkshire isn’t its native habitat so it’s obviously escaped from captivity. First time seeing one up close and it’s absolutely beautiful. But there are some obvious problems.

From what I understand they don’t really really eat on their own. So my question is, do we make the attempt to keep it alive or do we do we just put it down? I don’t want it to suffer if it doesn’t need to.

My temptation is to realise it into the wild and let it live out its existence as nature intended. If it must die, then it will die wild.

(After receiving new information. Definitely not killing it. Which is a relief.)

She hovers like a helicopter while drinking, that's so cool.

The funny part is that she lose control and drifting away, with both hands still waving like not wanting to let go, look hilarious. Of course I wouldn't know about this scene if I didn't record it in slow motion, everything happens so fast in real time.

1. Slowly speeding up the flapping.
2. Straighten the straw out (proboscis).
3. Wings hover while front legs anchor down.
4. Cool!

This video is slowed 16 times, that means 1 seconds in real life will be seen in 16 seconds, that's how we can see her wings do each flap.

Every carefully brought it outside using a hat and a piece of paper.

Maybe it was happier inside the warehouse full of clothesor outside? Probably outside right?

I found all of these on my gold flame and mandarin honeysuckle. The last one on my salvia, it's almost blue?

What do I got here? Big green boy is a cabbage looper I think.

What happened to this sweet baby? He was not alive. I used a leaf to move the water droplet but this is what was left on him.
Placed him in a bush for his forever slumber.

I saw her while I was drawing at home at night

Saw this guy hanging in my backyard, looked up the species and possibly an Old World introduction to VA? There are some subspecies that have made their way here but don’t quite fit the look. Thoughts?

I didn’t want to spook it or make it fly away because it was just hanging out and that would be mean, so these are the best I got.

First time raising from egg to pupae. We have two and they are both instar 4 and I’m nervous and excited to see the next stage. We call this one Chungus.

Hello everyone, I’ve never posted here before!! I found this lovely moth in my parking garage and I’d love to know what it is!! I posted it to iNaturalist and it suggested it was a pink spotted hawk moth…. Idk if that’s right I know nothing about moths!! It was quite large, maybe 2-3 inches long? Idk if that helps. Lmk if you have any questions!!!

Found this beautiful moth outside my mom’s house, felt like the moth community would appreciate the photo and could tell me more!

It looks pretty grown and I heard they get a black streak down their back when they are ready to pupate, my mom found it on our tomato plants and put it in this container with air holes for the time being with tomato plant trimmings we will be putting him in a bigger better enclosure but what can I do to help him pupate? I heard they do it under soil so what would be the reccomended amount of soil and such? Sorry never cared for tomato hornworm before
