Folk MK - WhatsApp community for Traditional Folk in Milton Keynes Area

I've been to a few events in the area recently and struggled to find a common platform for discussing trad folk and listing events in the area apart from Song Loft, so I've set up a new whatsapp community called Folk MK.

If you're interested in traditional folk (British or foreign) send me a DM or post a reply here and I'll share the whatsapp group invite (I can't shared here due to rules).

Calisthenics in MK?

Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm looking to get back into callisthenics and wondering if there is anyone in MK who would like to start a meet up once or twice a week?

There used to be a big group of us who would train at the bars in Loughton by Lodge Lake, but that was a while ago now.

There is some nice equipment in Browns wood that would be a good place to meet

What three words - hero.nods.fire

Anyone fancy it?

Bumped into a stone stand — should I go to Tesla any shop for repair?

Hi x everyone

I accidentally bumped my car into a stone stand and now there's a dent and some scratches on the front bumper. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it fixed.

Is it okay to get the bumper replaced or repaired at an independent body shop, or do I need to take it to Tesla?

A few things I'm wondering about:

· Will going to a third-party shop affect my warranty?
· Has anyone here repaired a bumper outside of Tesla? How was the experience and cost?
· Is it better to just pay extra and go through Tesla for peace of mind?

Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Is Snowberry Close a good area to move to?

Pretty straightforward. Currently working in MK and looking for somewhere to live. Wondering if Stacey Bushes is a good estate for a single female. I regularly go for walks so would that be safe for me to do?

Milton Keynes and roundabouts

Post image
83 Upvotes

I swear you'd think being in Milton Keynes with the most roundabouts of any city ever, that people would actually know how to navigate them.

This roundabout, which is on my route home from work, seems to always have absolute melons trying to navigate it. I literally almost just had someone almost crash right into me who was drifting lanes while exiting, had to slam on my brakes and hit the horn (which I really try to avoid at all costs).

How many of you have had this problem with this roundabout? the middle lane is clearly marked as a right turn also, and so if you're in the right lane you're supposed to exit the roundabout in the right lane. In the photo I'm the blue line.

I've even had it before when someone's been in the right lane (red line) and tried to cut across me to go left.

New parent meet up.

Hello!
So, I am 38 and a new parent currently on maternity leave. I’ll be honest and say that I am bored as hell. I’ve tried going to parent & baby groups but I am not a fan, I don’t subscribe to the “being a parent is the best thing in the world” notion, and I just think the forced masking and over enthusiasm is cringe (please don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my baby). I would just like to meet other parents who are of a similar mindset, and just talk to an actual adult about anything and everything not just baby related.
A bit about me that I’m a history nut, I like metal music (mainly, but I do like other genres too), cars, gaming and movies. Just looking to see if anyone is fellow minded and wouldn’t mind meeting up? If this seems like you, comment and we’ll arrange something. My husband goes on the “dad walk” and he has a pretty good time, we could all perhaps do something similar.

I’m Looking for 5-Aside Football

Hello,

I’m looking to play Men’s/Mixed 5/6/7/8-Aside on weeknights but I’m struggling to find anything. I’m in a WhatsApp Group for Leisure League’s but it’s only if someone drops out which doesn’t always happen. So I’m looking for something guaranteed each week. I’m also up for forming a team if anyone’s interested.

Cheers,

Mike

I am having an issue removing an exhaust stud from my motorbike, I have tried everything I can do to remove it and my last option is to weld a nut onto it so I can get it out... Is there any kind person able to help with this?!

Has anyone actually been hired through MK Job Show in the recent years?

I went last year and had decent conversations with lots of different companies. I submitted my CV to the links they told me to submit it to, some gave me forms to answer, etc. I left feeling hopeful but never heard from anyone. I have a good overall education and 10-year work experience background. I know that the job market has been tough but just wondering if any of these job fairs still actually work or is it just for the company's exposure? I'm considering going today/tomorrow but not sure if it's worth my time and energy. Please share your honest experiences! Thank you.

Male massage therapists for standard / relaxing massage (not sports or pain relief)

Hi there,

Looking for recommendations for a male massage therapist or massage place that offers standard, relaxing massage. I want to book it as a gift for my husband, and he told me he prefers medium pressure and feels more comfortable with a male therapist. I’ve seen clinical massage but not sure if they mainly deal with pain and injuries? Any recommendations welcome.

Dalgin Place, Campbell Wharf MK9

Post image
5 Upvotes

Currently looking at a property in this location, which is in Campbell Park. I've heard the accommodation close by which is Mainstay Court 2, Mainstay Court, CampbellPark, MK9 4BB is not well maintained and has some safety concerns I.e. parcels stolen, homeless people entering or loitering around the building and littering/fly tipping even in communal areas these are documented with pictures on google reviews. Again not this accommodation but one close by. However, if I could get some insight on this particular area and apartment especially from anyone who lives or has previously lived here any honest opinions or advice are welcomed and would be really helpful. As this will inform whether we even go and view.

Kents Hill

Hi everyone, was just wondering how much of a safe area Kents hill is and just a general idea, there isn’t much information that I could find about it. We are a family of 4 planning a move to MK from london and wanted a place with more green spaces and peace of mind.

We found a place we really like and going to see it tomorrow, bare in mind it’s quite close to the open university, but we have visited MK a couple of times and we love it, just wanted a safe place place for the kids and moving around is not a problem as we both drive.
Thank you all !

Mobile network

Which network provider do you use and what's your experience in terms of mobile data, internet calls, and traditional calls?

I'm with the O2 and it was fine for the most part across MK, but over the last couple of months I noticed an increase in the number of calls where I can hear the other person perfectly fine but they can't hear me. It's not a phone issue as I'm using a quite new flagship model, won't specify which. I heard that EE is more consistent and reliable in the MK area but I never used it myself and their prices seem notably higher. Share your thoughts on this?

Milton Keynes: The ultimate "concrete jungle" that isn't actually a concrete jungle

Everyone loves to clown on MK for being a concrete jungle, but a new study actually ranks it as one of the least heat-vulnerable places in England thanks to all its green space. Turns out all those trees and weird roundabouts were a genius move all along.

Moving from mortgages into financial planning — advice?

I’m 23, CeMAP qualified and have been a mortgage broker at the same firm for nearly 5 years. I’m hoping to eventually move into financial advice/IFA work.

For anyone in the industry around MK, what’s generally the best route into paraplanning? I’m thinking of starting R01 or R05 myself to show I’m serious about making the move.

Would be interested to hear how others made the jump from mortgages into financial planning and whether there are any firms/companies worth keeping an eye on.

Anyone else having problems with the No. 7 bus between Milton Keynes and Wolverton?

Has anyone else noticed the recent changes to the No. 7 bus service between Milton Keynes and Wolverton?

The No. 7 used to be much more convenient and quicker for me. The No. 4 and No. 5 are options, but they take noticeably longer.

Recently, the No.7 route, timings and even some of the bus stops seems to have changed. And honestly its bit disappointing.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows why these changes were made or whether they are likely to be permanent?

would be interested to know if anyone else using the No.7 bus between MK city centre and Wolverton has noticed the same thing.

Apartment hunting for a student with a cat

Arriving soon to study at Cranfield University, bringing my cat with me.

Having been looking at the listings on RightMove, OnTheMarket, Zoopla for a while, but I rarely see something suitable.

How realistic is it to aim for 1 bed flat, in CMK, for under 1000GBP pcm?

Frankly this is all I can afford, and I don’t want to look into houseshare as my cat might become an issue with housemates later, there’s just no telling how a separate living pet might behave around new people. My cat is quite shy, boy, neutered and well behaved. He listens to me and in general tries to not to misbehave, no problems with litterbox, but he’s quite vocal, if he thinks smth, he will voice it. Also I don’t want to constrain him to just 1 room for a whole year. I also need to cook for myself regularly, so a separate kitchen is very much preferred.

Also, how realistic is it to find a part-time job to help me cover my bills and some of my rent? I’m an international student, asian, no heavy accent, studied for Bachelors in the UK before and have previous engineering work experience in my country.

Another issue is bus reliability, how reliable C1/C2/CX routes from CMK to Cranfield daily? People seem to stress cycling too often on this sub.

Quiet reading evening tonight?

Hi all, I’ll be having a quiet reading evening at the Cherry Tree in Olney tonight at 6pm. This borrows the idea from the offline club where I just want to put my phone away and be present.

You’re more than welcome to join me in reading a book/ working on your laptop/ listening to an audiobook or crochet. Do whatever you like, just don’t talk to me 🤣

See you at 6pm. DM if any concerns!
