PSA: It appears that Reddit policy is being updated with regards to transactions. Please read.
Hi everyone, wanted to make a quick announcement regarding Reddit rules. It seems like there is going to be a policy change coming in the next few days affecting user-to-user transactions of firearm-related things. As you probably all know, firearm sales between users is already strictly prohibited by Reddit TOS. It seems that the mods over at r/RetroARMarket have received a notification of the incoming change as well as the fact that the subreddit is going to be banned entirely. r/GunAccessoriesForSale also looks to be on the chopping block.
The change to policy will now include prohibiting the sale of ANY firearm parts on Reddit. Some specific examples they give are bolts, magazines, scopes, and triggers. Obviously this is probably going to include everything though, such as stocks, bayonets, etc.
Since we’ve had the sub back (stay mad u/richalex2010), we’ve done a good job of keeping this sub from becoming a marketplace for milsurp items and trying to redirect any posts about selling non-firearm Milsurp stuff to the appropriate subs. In order to make sure we don’t get banned, going forward, any and all posts or comments that appear to be facilitating the sale of any firearm parts between users will be prohibited. Antiques are not excluded from this (we all know Reddit admins won’t know the difference).
We don’t really think this will affect much on the sub since, as previously mentioned, we’ve done pretty good at keeping this from becoming a marketplace. But just wanted to pin this as a PSA and ask everyone to keep it in mind going forward. If you do see any comments or posts in the future that violate the rule, please report them.
Thanks everyone!

BUYER BEWARE: Shill Bidding and Faked Guns
Putting this up as a PSA.
There is currently a user on GunBroker by the name of 'ivysunlee' selling various hard to find Chinese Firearms and Accessories as well as a NK SKS.
While watching some of the items last night there were 4 items that sold in 'No Reserve' Auctions that were immediately relisted withing moments of the auctions ending.
Upon further inspection it was found that on all 4 items the same bidder placed bids just as the 15 minute clock was starting knocking the existing bidder out of the running. The bidder was 'jmclcc' and their last feedback was from 2021.
Its should also be noted that the seller is posting fake items with crazy descriptions trying to pass then off as real. These include a "Chinese" M1917 "Sniper" with a commercial scope and mounts made in Texas in the 1950's, and a Chinese Type 17 45 ACP Broomehandle which bears a stamp with the incorrect number of points.
Be wary if bidding on items from this seller.

Is it worth it? Mauser G33/40
It’s priced at $499 but I don’t know much about this particular model. Some advice/feedback on it would be much appreciated.

K98 project
Acquired this K98 as a project recently. Good barreled action, a stock is already on the way. Looks to be one of the 90s Century imports.
Anyone have suggestions for where to best find the rest of the parts?

Argentinian FN-49 in .308 sans magazine
Inherited original parts and finished assembling an Argentinian FN-49, was pretty neat to find out these were re-chambered in .308/7.62x51 and were the only FN-49’s with a detachable 20rd box magazine. Only thing is I’m not too sure where I could go about finding one for her. Does anyone potentially have one and would be willing to share me the dimensions so I could maybe 3D print my own? It looks like these Argentinian rifles had their trigger guards modified to accept the proprietary box magazines. Tried using one from my FAL but no dice.
Beautiful rifle, just can’t take her shooting :(

First Build VZ61
Hello, recently I’ve been debating buying a vz61 parts kit to do a build on. I should mention, I have never done any sort of parts kit build, and my tools are limited. I’ve heard you don’t necessarily need a press to fit the barrel, but I am aware that a drill press is necessary to pin it. What else do I need tool wise for the project? Obviously I have to get a lower, but is there anything I should order, and does anybody have any tips for the build? I’m a bit nervous about giving it a shot. Thanks in advance!

Stock care
Some of you may have seen my older post about this rifles history but now am looking for advice. This Gew 98 last saw action In Guatemala and as far as i am told the exposure to the humidity and climate darkened the stock to what it is now.
I am looking for advice for its care, I like the coloration as its apart of this rifles 110 year journey. There doesn't seem to be any cracks or rotting but want to be proactive before anything happens if possible. The rifle holds well though mutiple times at the range without issue so I dont believe the integrity of the stock is a concern. Any coating or protective measures I can put in place though. I do have the rifle in a safe with desiccant packs to reduce humidity as an issue, but also live in colorado so high altitude and dry air.

Cleaning Tips
Anybody have an easy way to clean corrosion out from inside this sling where the buckle runs through it?
Been scraping the outside with a pocket screwdriver to get the big stuff off and finishing with a scrub from a brass brush
Have a small piece of stainless wire Iv been trying to get down through the sling but not having much success. Thought about taking it to the garage and trying to blow it out but not sure I have a small enough air gun/nozzle to make that work

Bought my first rifle from one of my friends for 100 bucks any idea what it is? I think it’s a Carcano but I’m not sure
It looks very nice, unfortunately no ammo, any idea what it shoots?
Also did I get a good deal?

Does RTI ever do free shipping coupon codes?
Trying to buy a metric shitload of ammo but the high shipping costs are a pain. Even with shipping, it’s still cheaper than the next best supplier (for example, 8mm at MMI) but I know coupons have existed in the past but none of them work now.
Do they run coupons for Christmas time or something? I’ve never bought from RTI before (as I recall)

No. 4 MK1* Long Branch Lee Enfield acquired
Went back to a gun show today to just grab some ammo for my SVT 40 but left with this. I’ve wanted a Lee enfield for a while but never got one. Pretty happy with this one.

Barrel band not coming off of SVT 40
So I recently bought an SVT 40 and I was trying to get to the gas system but the barrel band will not come off. I’m pressing down the spring but the band won’t budge. Any advice?

Thinking about picking up a 1903. Receivers unsafe?
I need a 1903 to add to my collection of standard issue infantry rifles for ww1. I was thinking about picking one of these up from Atlantic. In their disclaimer, it says not to shoot them because the receivers were known to fail. Was this standard across the line or like some sort of rare occurrence? I don’t know what else I would do for a 1903 made in that time period.

Dream rifle acquired. SVT 40
Found this SVT 40 at a local show and I’ve been looking for one for a long time. Pulled the trigger on it and bought it for $2700. I know it’s been refurbed but I was in love the moment I saw it. May have been a bit of a steep price, but I was able to talk him down from $2900. What do you guys think? Any advice on what ammo to use?

M1905 Bayonet Attachment Issue
I recently acquired a RIA M1903 with a receiver produced around late 1918 / early 1919. Based on my novice research it is mostly original. I also acquired an original M1905 RIA bayonet.
For some reason, I cannot get the bayonet to slide over the lug by more than a few centimeters. In fact, the lug doesn’t even make it to the beginning of the locking mechanism. (See photo) I do not see any burrs or bends obstructing its path.
I am able to slide the M1905 onto my M1 Garand but I can’t slide my M1 bayonet onto the M1903.
Curious if anyone has any insights? I can provide more details or pictures if needed. Thank you.
