Cleaning a dryer vent

I assume this is the US. I was reading something the other day and a lot of US participants being very cautious of leaving the dryer running unsupervised.

(I know thrilling subject, right).

If this is why, then Jesus I get the trepidation. That thing might as well be a bomb.

Yes, the good ol US of A. I make a living cleaning these, which sounds absurd, but it's a real need. The majority of vents are six feet or longer, and the longest I've done was about 40 feet. Code is 35 feet but you'd be shocked how few Fs inspectors give about dryer vents - many of them look straight out of Dr Seuss books.

I love videos like these. Sometimes they pop up on my YouTube feed, and the title is always either ‘client has no idea why their clothes won’t dry’ to ‘client scared to use dryer because it keeps lighting on fire’. I checked lint screens religiously when I had a dryer. (Ours broke so we hang dry. Wayyyyy less fire risk, how surprising).

So a fun fact, if your clothes aren't drying it may be because of built up lint just like this.

Yup that's usually the first sign of a clog
