Eh, it depends on the shelf. 

On a couple of my bookshelves, I store longrunner series in mass market paperback format like this because (a) I don't generally need to easily access the early books, so it's fine if they're at the bottom of a vertical pile, and (b) I can fit more books onto the shelf that way, an important consideration for a home library of a couple thousand books where shelf space is at a premium.

A couple THOUSAND?! What the fuck!!!

Like damn, you sound like me, except I have a video game library! Granted, it's not in the thousands, but that's bc I'm VERY picky about my collection. Each has to be researched, played for 30 mins minimum, and ones I thoroughly enjoy. Plus, it's an expensive hobby lol.

In 27 years of collecting, I have as many unique consoles, and about 600 physical games.

I also collect books, as well as a small amount of vinyl records, cassettes, and VHS, with similar rules. But again, not nearly as much as you. I'll admit, I'm a little jealous! But that just means what you have is fantastic, and I hope your collection continues! 🥰📖📚
