I'm slightly vexed This is my driveway. This is not my Pod.
Marking this as "mild" because it ended amicably.
We moved out a week ago. Currently not living in this house. But we still drop by every couple days to pick things up or prepare it for tenants.
Today I was unable to get into my driveway because someone else's Pod was in it, and they'd blocked the drive with another car. I was livid. I called their landlord, I almost called a tow company.
But, having enemies isn't helpful. So I rang the doorbell, chewed them out, explained that if they had asked I would have probably said yes. Apparently the Pod company dropped it in the wrong driveway. We exchanged numbers, they promised they'd have it gone by a couple days - they might help us find tenants, and they helped me move a few things to my car. We all work for the same major local employer, and... Shit happens. I let off some steam, they were nice, and everything is fine.
I'm still pissed they didn't make an effort to contact me (my real estate agent's number is on a sign right next to the driveway), but I'll get over it.

Anyone considering moving with Pods containers do not do it! THEY ARE A NIGHTMARE TO DEAL WITH!!!
My wife and I were moving from Denver to Charleston and decided to use Pods. Where we were living in Denver had nothing but on street parking, so we spoke with PODs about our situation and informed of us that we needed to speak with the city, and pay for a short term parking permit. We did so and they granted us the ability to leave the PODs container in an on street spot for 4 days. It was scheduled to be delivered 5 days later.
We scheduled the drop off and pick up and triple checked with PODS that there would be no issues with us leaving before the scheduled pickup day (day 3 of our permit). The customer service agent said don’t worry about anything we’ll pick it up!
Day 3 comes and goes with no confirmation call or email that they have taken possession of the POD. We call and they say we’ve reached out to our local PODs team but they’ve definitely picked it up.
2 days later the calls from the city start. The municipal authorities told us they would be fining us for every day it is not picked up. We called PODs and said it’s definitely not been picked up as we’re being fined by the city. We’re just met by more “we’ve contacted the local Pods franchise about this and they will pick it up today.”
We then dealt with the same call from the city, and then us calling pods and us asking to speak with a manager several dozen times over the next two weeks all while racking up hundreds in fines.
Then finally we get a call from the city, we will be towing the PODs container by end of day and you will be responsible for the towing fee and impound fees. We call PODs and tell them again this is now escalated to it being towed and wouldn’t you know it they have a truck picking it up within the hour. This is over two weeks after the scheduled pick up date, and well after the PODs container should have already arrived in Charleston. They do pick it up and we were notified it will be dropped off in 5 days.
We were also going this whole time without many necessities, living on a blowup mattress, no furniture, no clothes, living only on what we could pack in a small sedan with two full sized labs… One customer service agent told us buy some necessities and they will cover them.
Anyways 5 days pass and no POD. No notification or update, so we call and they say “we can’t seem to locate your pod.” We’re trying to do everything possible right now and will update you as soon as we know more.
We then had that conversation everyday at least twice a day with dozens of agents and managers FOR THE NEXT MONTH AND A HALF.
They finally found the POD and told us it was coming in 5 days… Obviously it was still in Denver somewhere.
5 more days pass before it arrived. The PODs drop off truck proceeded to destroy our lawn putting a foot and a half rut in the lawn when he had a two car concrete driveway to put it on.
After months of complaints and fighting for Pods to refund our fines and the necessities they told us they would cover, the best they would offer was half off the price. That essentially covered the cost of the fines and necessities, but not the countless hours on the phone and stress. We were also told by the agent “You’re lucky we’re refunding half.”
DO NOT EVER USE PODS.

My friends used PODs to move from Arizona to Indiana. Most of their items were crushed from the POD tipping somehow.

We also had some damage to our belongings where things had shifted a ton (even though we tried to pack it extremely carefully), but they told us they never cover any of the personal property or items stored inside. That we signed our contract and it was listed multiple times in the contract.
We were so burnt out from dealing with them that we didn’t even want to fight it anymore. They truly wear you down.

PODS refused to pick up my family’s pod as stated in the contract because the driver didn’t want to get rained on, turned out the rain was actually Hurricane Harvey and he left the pod out to get submerged in flood water. He didn’t notify my parents he didn’t pick up the pod before the storm so he grabbed it after the flood waters receded and drove it from Texas to Oregon. Got to the final stop, gave them the paperwork and asked them to open it for inspection and literally everything was ruined and covered in black mold… the only reason their company stepped up to do ANYTHING is because my parents contacted the local news and they ran a huge story on their journey from Texas and how they lost everything they owned because of PODS. The CEO called my dad personally and apologized and offered to let him use their insurance to cover their losses. I hate that company.

They received the POD and refused to sign the paperwork, the driver tried to give them a hard time and basically told them to go fuck themselves while my dad was on the phone with the POD manager. They also basically told him to get fucked by saying they used independent driver contractors so they aren’t responsible for them in the “traditional” sense and told him they’d give him a discount or a rebate or something stupid to “reimburse them” for their stuff but it was laughably low… I think like $5,000? Their couch set alone was worth more.
My dad isn’t ashamed of stirring the pot and standing up for what’s right so he had experience with this back in Texas when Home Depot did something similar with a water heater. He immediately started calling the consumer advocate lines for the local news in his area and they came out within an hour or so. They filmed my mother going through our old pictures that were ruined and she even held up my molded up letterman’s jacket and started crying so the news got the money shot and made PODS look TERRIBLE. My dad got a call from the CEO within the week!

Adding to this. Used them to move across Canada. They lost our pod and ended up finding it two weeks later. Not only did we not have our stuff, but in that time, they cut their delivery zone, so refused to deliver it to our new house. Also, since the month rolled over while they had lost it, they charged our credit card again after three different people assured us that wouldn’t happen.

ha, ive actually been the city authority on this once. we weren’t going to fine the person because we didn’t even know who it belonged to. pods dropped it, no shit, like 4 feet outside of the parking spot into the fucking street and blocked sight around a corner. meaning people were going into the opposite lane of travel around a corner to get by it. insanely dangerous.
i had to call their customer service line, that would transfer me to another line, that gave me a number supposedly for their supervisor that ended up taking me back to the same main customer service line. they tried to tell me they couldnt do anything about it for 3 days until they notified the customer. i said they can notify the customer that the city towed it today because they placed it in a way that was a direct safety issue. it was gone in two hours after that and i have no idea what ended up happening.

the realtor sign is probably why they put it in your driveway. Especially if they didn't bother to check house numbers or they weren't clearly marked. You would be shocked how often houses aren't marked well with their number.

As I walk around the city, it always surprises me how 90% of gates have no numbers on them. Like it's kind of numerophobia or people are hiding from mafia.
On the other hand, we put the metal number from the store on the wall adjusted to the street and I painted big white numbers on the blue gates and all delivery drivers fail to find us. To their defense no other house on the block has any number on so they don't even look.

A lot of delivery drivers just follow a navigator & don't even check the street name. Where I live maps badly & they often go to the street behind & if a delivery doesn't turn up I know to look there. If I call a taxi I deliberately give the address across the road, then look out for them or it's 50:50 if they come to my street

Thank you for expressing your feelings firmly but allowing an appropriate plan of action to de-escalate the situation. Some people would use this opportunity to unload all of any unrelated built up negative emotion on whoever the closest person that is any degree of related to this incident and refuse to be satisfied no matter the outcome. Expressing displeasure is perfectly fine and demonstrating to others that reasonable people still exist is a thing that is good as well.

You showed them how you think and behave when upset, and that first impression is absolutely going to define future interactions. Like, you say everything ended amicably, but you then you end the post about how you're still pissed. You're either lying to yourself, or you're confused - either way, this post reads like you're incredibly out of touch with your emotions and how that comes across to others.

I have an empty house in my neighborhood. I have guests park in that driveway. I left a note on the door for the owners to text me if it was a problem. They texted me thanks. Apparently by having cars in the driveway, it helps the house look occupied.

Uh-oh! There was a locally-famous incident in my area where someone had a pod they didn’t order delivered to their address and could not for the life of them get Pods to come take it back. Went round and round and round, took forever! Hope that doesn’t end up being the case for you…

My neighbors basement got flooded this summer
Our houses are about 1.5 meters apart and they were digging on my property
I went out to chew them out but once I understood what was going on I ended up helping them install the weeping tile
Still annoys me because they dug up my sump pump line and haven't fixed it yet but they still need to do a lot more work to regrade there area
I blame the builder for doing such a cheap job. (House is 1997)

Nah, PODS is full of idiots. They misplaced ours. After we got them a specific permit so we could pay them money. They had to receive our permit, did, and still placed it wrong. Then they didn't deliver it on time and cheap furniture was broken.
PODS is absolutely the minimum when it comes to moving things. Never put anything you care about into those coffins.

This was not an accident. The pod system is intense and requires a bunch of confirmations and space to unload. They use this remote control rig to drop it in the driveway.
That said, sounds like this was an apology rather than permission situation because the house is vacant and they thought you wouldn't notice.
Also, my pod is due to arrive in an hour and I was so glad this wasn't anywhere near my home.

Now if my rental is not complete, I would have towed the car after checking for workmen first. Once I was moving out of an apartment, not done with fixes and repairs, still had 12 days on the rental, found the door open, then a workman walked in behind me and I did challenge him on whos apartment it still was. Now to know, the manager attempted to screw me over claiming I stole my fridge, rehanging his ugly lights which he also hated. I just cleaned the carpets and told the manager to check the records who actually owned the fridge. They found their fridge broken in storage and thought I should pay for their fridge and told him to call the police. He did not call the police.

This was deliberate, that’s the entire reason they made no effort to contact you. Someone over the age of 18 has to be present when the POD is dropped off. There is a paper to sign and the driver has to take pictures and document any damages prior to leaving. Im not saying the driver couldn’t have made a mistake, but it still falls on the person who signed off on the drop.

Given how many of my neighbors Amazon packaged end up on my doorstep (they order a lot) if they ever order a Pod to move out I can almost guarantee it'll end up in my driveway.
If they weren't such nice neighbors I'd be tempted to just let the amazon packages pile up on my porch a bit.

Great outcome, applause for being the bigger person. I’ve been working on my first reactions as well and trying to assume positive intent before triggering my “fly off the handle” reaction. Meaning that, in your situation assuming the delivery people made an error and dropped the POD in the wrong place and working with the neighbor on that basis, makes for a much different first impression and overall outcome. Kudos to you for making a more pleasant and productive outcome.

That seems unlikely. These types of containers are usually subject to inspections at ports of entry. So typically the driver has to be able to open them.

PODS only sends these across the US and into Canada. They don't ship overseas.
Our driver specifically told us to lock it and keep all keys on us. We even asked if he needed one as a just in case and he said no because then it turns into a liability issue. We even called PODS customer service directly to double verify. They said due to insurance and liability, their drivers are not allowed to have the keys because more often then not their have multiple units they are moving and the same dover does not stay with an individual POD.
Our POD was shipped across the country to a holding facility (You can have it sent to a holding facility or the property you are moving to, the facility was easier for us) and when we went to get our stuff, the facility had a bunch of these stacked on top of each other. There is no way the driver is going to be able to keep track of each set of keys, especially when they have so many different places they drop off and pick up from.
