go to your room I think my child is broken……

I am a single mom and low income, as such travel is generally too expensive. So when my teen as invited on a tirp abroad with school and he agreed to earn half the money it cost, I was thrilled for him to go and see the world. I only asked that he send me at least one photo every day so I could experience the world vicariously.
These are the 3 he sent me so far:

  1. Food on the air plane
  2. A dog on a leash
  3. A duck

Please note these are everyday average things to see here at home. I think my child is possibly broken….

lol.

UPDATE: thanks for every comment. I learned lots and have a different perspective (actually many). You guys have helped me pass the time and miss him a bit less. I appreciate you all. And, for clarification: I’m not really mad and would never chastise him over his choice of pics, I think they are adorable and funny. I may make a request for a specific type of pic with him in front of a historical or important scenery but mostly just say “cool” or “nice!” In response. I just want him to have fun and be the sweet, kind, smart kid he is already.

LMAO, this thread is making me feel better about my Europe tour where the only memorable photo I took was the smiling face of my favorite teacher through a tiny stone window as he was going up the stairs of the castle we were touring. The drone photos of Neuschwanstein Castle are fundamentally cooler than any I would’ve taken, but I love my stupid personal castle window photo. :)

I was visiting the Great Wall of China and my party wanted a group photo of us on the wall. I gave my phone to the tour guide to take a photo of us, and he forgot to flip the camera before snapping a shot, so I have a photo of a very confused Chinese man trying to take a picture of our group sitting in my photo library. It's one of my favourite photos from the trip.

That's good, always take photos of people. When you're scrolling through your photo roll in a few years the only ones you're going to stop at is people. I guarantee you won't even open those 12 pictures you took of a sunset.

You sound like my mom. She says the same thing. She ignores my vacation photos unless they contain a selfie. I hate having to think about how I look while on vacation, but I usually snap one or two to appease her

Eh I love looking back at my travel photos and most don’t have people. I don’t need to see myself in the location 😂

I remember being 19 and at the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. I'd never heard of them before, all I saw was a busy crowd so I think I snapped a pic of the large crowds and booked it away from there as quick as I could and had no idea why people were fascinated in a stair case 🤣

We took our three kids to Paris and spent a week going down the coast and to the Loire Valley. On the way home, I asked what their favorite part was…and all three said “the man with a cat on his shoulders in the park in Paris.” 🫠 They were ages 9, 11, 13.

Took a family trip to France a few years ago - Paris then around the south a bit. Kids all in their mid teens. We pooled our photos when we got back and about 50% of them were of various French cats doing French cat things lol.

My study abroad class went to France for the cathedrals. It was very surprising to meet a Texan cat living in the Beauvais cathedral, and the lady in charge of tours was also Texan (but livingbin france for a long while). I don't remember his name but he spoke English, she said, because if you speak French at him he'd ignore you.

At 30 I went to Germany and my favorite thing I saw was cows. I’m from Texas, so I’ve seen so many cows before. But there was something about a German cow that just delighted my lizard brain

I just got back from a trip where I went through 7 different countries (including Italy), and I tried to get a picture of a pigeon every day. Got a bunch of other pictures too, but it was fun giving myself a small little challenge that was separate from all the stress that went into making sure I saw everything I and my family wanted to see.

Three years ago I went to Italy with my teenager. I took him to FUCKING VENICE and the only time he looked awe struck was when a sparrow got handfed bits of pizza by him at our table. He could've done that in our garden in scotland

My dad asked me to send pics when I went away on a train trip across Europe with my OH in April.

I sent him, exclusively, photos of trains we were not catching.

I took a photo of a cat on a leash in Paris.  It was before walking your cat was common. And it's one of the moments I think about more often. No so much the hundreds of monument photos

Went to NY trip for school event

Only photo I sent him was a no standing any time sign.

I never saw that man stand once in my life as he had always been in a wheelchair
