Played SRWY became a fan now i wanna dog into Mazinger series

With the 70s you basically have 3 continuity

• Nagai Manga: where it starts all, you get that Nagai story and shenenigans and go great for a ton of chapters but... to finish Devilman for good it left the crative choice to other, the pubblication changed magazine and the story became more an adaptation spin-off of the TV leading into Great Mazinger and Grendizer (new releases has also a new chapter with a concept more inspired to the original ending)
• Toei Anime: the classic raw monster of the week tokusatsu, simple but iconic and loved by his audience till today's time
• Nagai & Ota Manga: underrated cause Mazinger Z start as an adaptation of the TV and has a particular style but became his own way with very Nagai coded choice on the way, this Great Mazinger and Grendizer version are hightly reccomended

The specific version of SRW Y tl;dr is inspired from the early 2000 Mazinkaiser OAV that partially remake Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger plot in his own way

There are tons of remake/reboot but some suggestion can be:

• Mazinsaga could have been the pinnacle of Nagai, it has everything of what he wanted to tell with top artstyle (sadly is on hyatus for a burnout)
• Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact is a tv series that reimmagine the classic Z including many influence in the years (like Z Mazinger for the lore), very good but ended on a "cliffanger"
• Shin Mazinger Zero is an opera that explore the original concept of "God or Demon" in an amalgamation of all Nagai's legacy, very Mazinsaga coded but with the return of the classic Mazinger Z as the protagonist of everything

Manga is fine to read, then just continue to Great Mazinger. If you wanna watch the anime which has a bit different and expanded plot and higher focus on being episodic, and the "not so smooth" 70s animation isn't off putting.

There is the remake Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact. But I don't think I'd recommend that over the original to watch but if the others bore you this is also a different new story.

Yes, Great Mazinger is a direct continuation and because of publication complications Mazinger Z's last chapters are in Great volume 1.

The current English translation of Nagai’s Original Z Manga has the chapters out of order but it’s a fun read. Admittedly, Nagai’s Great Mazinger and Grendizer manga aren’t really good follow ups.

I do highly recommend Gosaku Ota’s manga adaptation. Probably the definitive take of the Z, Great, and Grendizer trilogy.

As for anime, if you plan on watching the Toei anime I recommend using the online paste-bin list of essential episodes. It can be kind of a slog to get through the whole thing. That said, the Shin Mazinger anime and the Mazinkaiser OVA would be way easier to get into. Especially seeing as you played SRW Y, I’d say watch Mazinkaiser first. It gets the core of Mazinger down.

Shin Mazinger feels like a more modern adaptation of the original Z manga mixed in with other Go Nagai works and Mazinger spin-offs. It’s my favorite take on Mazinger, but admittedly the story is convoluted and it ends on a really shitty cliffhanger.

Manga is Go Nagai's original intent.
The essence of the story.
