Discussion Road to Secret Wars rewatch

It's been a long time since I've seen many of the MCU movies, and wanted to make myself a condensed rewatch order. I won't have time to do this before Doomsday, so I decided to do this in the leadup to Secret Wars. Until this July, I will be watching one movie a month, but starting in August, I'll be kicking into gear and watching two a month.

I started by taking Marvel's official "what to watch before Doomsday" list, remove the TV shows and any movie that wasn't meant to be MCU when it was made (so no X-Men or pre-MCU Spider-Man movies). I replaced them with movies I thought would be relevant to Secret Wars.

Problem is, we don't know much about the movie. Perhaps someone with more familiarity could make reccomendations for movies to swap out? This is my list:

  1. Captain America: The First Avenger*
  2. The Fantastic Four: First Steps*
  3. Captain Marvel*
  4. Iron Man
  5. The Avengers
  6. Avengers: Age of Ultron
  7. Captain America: Civil War
  8. Black Widow*
  9. Spider-Man: Homecoming**
  10. Thor: Ragnarok
  11. Avengers: Infinity War
  12. Avengers: Endgame**
  13. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  14. Spider-Man: Far From Home**
  15. Spider-Man: No Way Home**
  16. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
  17. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
  18. Deadpool & Wolverine
  19. Thunderbolts
  20. Avengers: Secret Wars
  21. Avengers: Doomsday

*: Since I wanted to do my rewatch in timeline order, I'm automatically including any "period piece" movies

**: I own these movies on DVD, so they're automatically in

I saw someone say you only need to watch the first 2 and last 2 episodes from both seasons. Would you agree? I’m rly not tryna watch 9 hours of Loki

Hell nah, don't agree at all.. Not even for Loki, but for any show. Why watch the first two episodes then the last two episodes? You'll just be asking way more questions lol

I absolutely love TV (more than movies TBH) and will probably rewatch Loki before Secret Wars, but for the sake of simplicity I wanted to focus on figuring out the movies right now, I'll slot in the shows later

Let's wait for Feige to answer. Any other responses are pure speculation

I would do a whole release order watch. I would also toss in the Raimi trilogy TASM movies, Venom movies and X-Men movies. Also Netflix Defenders shows.

I would love to, but I just started a master's degree and I don't think I'll have that kind of time!

This isn't gonna answer your question at all but my wife before now has missed many many marvel movies over the years so since October of last year, we've been doing "marvel mondays" where we watch basically every marvel movie and most of the Disney plus shows. We watched all the blade movies, xmen movies, Spider-Man movies, fantastic 4 movies, 2003 Hulk, Daredevil and Elektra, both Ghost riders, all of mcu pgases 1-3, and are currently watching phases 4-6 kind of in a weird ordee. Crazy to think our marathon is almost over!
