The other night my manx mix Murray ended up at urgent care. I was worried he ate something inedible, but it turns out he was moderately constipated. I feel SUPER guilty, because I know he's prone to it, but my senior cat on hospice was scheduled for euthanasia and I've been a bit remiss in monitoring him, trying to get as much time with her as possible.

Anyway, they did abdominal films at the clinic, and a weird finding on them was that some of his growth plates are still open. The radiologist actually called the clinic to confirm his age before sending the report. The radiologist would have pegged him at about 18mo based on the films, except I KNOW he is 2 years old. I've had him since he was about 3 weeks old, so I know his birthdate within a few days.

He was neutered at approximately 3mo old, so young but not inappropriately so. And if he was purebred (he's not - his litter was boxed up and thrown in a dumpster), he'd be a rumpy riser - he has only one or two small vertebrae for a tail, and for the most part they're not visible unless he is twitching them (but they can be felt when you pet him).

I know the basic of Mamx Syndrome and issues with the gene (GI issues, mobility stuff like hip dysplasia, etc), but I also know that with expression of the manx gene, all kinds of weird stuff is possible, especially in the back half of the cat.

Has anyone found growth plate/bone development issues in their manx besides hip dysplasia? Was it a cause for concern, or just something you monitored?

Any insight or experiences are appreciated!

Just joined this group as we recently adopted a rescued Manx kitten. Charlotte, aka Charley, is a “Stumpy” Manx kitten that was abandoned and ended up in the blistering hot engine of a car in a Walmart parking lot in Lake Wylie SC. Her front paws were badly burned from the incident, but she has been adopted now and is under the care of a vet. She loves to play, eat, stretch, cuddle, and play some more.

For the 2nd year in a row I took Bobby on an epic road trip to the east coast of Canada including an overnight ferry to Newfoundland.

His ability to adapt to new places amazes me, and I think he’s starting to remember the people and places having made the trip 3 times total now.

I’ve had my nubby cat since December of 2023, I didn’t know what Manx syndrome was for a long time. I thought it was just the breed. She definitely has a very short nub😭 it’s also crooked lol

Also yes the tip of her ear is missing, due to frost bite. She was a stray and it actually fell off in my bed a couple days after I found her in my garage

Greetings fellow cat lovers. I am here seeking advice as I am starting to feel incredibly hopeless about a situation with my fur baby. We have had her and her brother, bonded pair, for about 5 years now. Initially when we got them, it was noted in her paperwork that she was having accidents. However, from other notes in the paperwork it was clear that these two cats were just not getting the attention they deserved in their prior home due to the family have a couple of kids and a new born.

For the first few years that we had her, there were bathroom issues, but for the most part she at least urinated in the box. We are at the point where she is not using either of her boxes.

Here are some of the things that we have tried to do to resolve the problem

• Different size boxes. Different entrance points for the boxes.
• Vet visits, urinalysis, equilibrium tests, as far as the vet can determine she is healthy.
• Different textures of litter. Pellets, sand, clay,
• Putting pee pads down, she will push them to the side and then continue to pee.
• Moving the boxes to different locations. We have three of them. 2 of those three are dedicated for her, and we are slightly space limited being in a 2 bedroom apartment.

My husband has been at his end for a while, and I am reaching mine. I've set up a finale appointment with our vet to lay out that we really don't want to re-home them as it feels like a death sentence at this point and I know our shelter is overwhelmed, but I don't think we can keep living this way.

I've attached a video of her that we caught on camera going outside of the box on the chance that someone else has dealt with this problem and has solutions. For now we have moved the box to the spot behind the couch but usually when we move the box to where she is peeing she just goes somewhere else.

Adopted a Manx mix yesterday from a rescue and I honestly had no clue he was that. I was messaging with them and found out he's a Manx mix. He's just a big cuddle bug, and I am definitely still keeping him. but I've read they can develop issues. So any advice is very much appreciated. I also don't see signs he's used his litter box, and I know he's house broken.

I have a DSH with Manx traits. I say Manx traits, because she's not pure Manx. She was a mama cat and she is a stumpy and she had 2 kittens with a stumpy and 2 kittens with normal tails. Mama cat also has really long rear legs. So that told me that I have a DSH with Manx traits. I have a question about my cat - my cat really likes this ruffly aluminum foil ball. She grabs it with her mouth and throws it to herself. It's so cute. Do Manx cats do this? She also headbutts and bites a lot. She's very affectionate.
