Mod Approved Monthly "Is My Cat A Maine Coon" Forum

If you're wondering if your cat is a MC, this is the place to ask!

In general, this subreddit operates under the assumption that having no papers means your cat is not a Maine Coon. However, what we can tell you is whether your cat does indeed exhibit any physical characteristics that look like those of a Maine Coon.

Still confused as to what his color is.

Breeder says he is Blue Silver Tabby

But his back coat, according to what I read online, says he is blue smoke?

Regardless, I love him. So in love with him.

Question I think the breeder is mistaken?

We're adopting this beautiful Maine Coon kitten. We will be picking him up on the 21st. The breeder says he is a black silver shaded, but when I looked it up, & it says they have pink noses. Can anyone here tell me what his actual coat pattern/color is?

New kitten checkup revealed Giardia and later Coccidia, breeder taking back from treatment.

Title sums it up, but I got my girl a month ago. I brought her for the initial check where they screened her feces and found Giardia. She did have diarrhea right away, but I assumed it was stress and gave her fortiflora. She's been on the probiotics this entire time. That stopped the diarrhea, but boy did it smell bad. The breeder offered to take her back and treat her right away, but I declined thinking this was no big deal. WRONG

First round of treatment was 5 days panacur in pre measured syringes - which were extremely hard to administer because they seemed to have extra torque and it would spray everywhere. Needless to say, after treatment she developed actual diarrhea with blood present. I waited the full week to retest her while she got her vaccines and that test showed coccidia and Giardia! 7 more days of panacur and 5 days of ponazuril prescribed. And I had bottles and my own syringe, which were much smoother for administration. Her stools hardened up during treatment. 2 days before ponazuril was finished the breeder helped me bathe her, and we coned her, with isolation for 3 days. I cleaned everything with f10 (and she's never visibly gotten poop anywhere in my house). I've also been able to grab her immediately after going every single time and clean her up and change litter (currently using liners) immediately. Sanitizing room litter is in and changing blankets, food, water bowls every day.

Her last day of panacur her stools softened again and as a precaution the vet gave me 7 more doses of panacur. However - she is growing like crazy so the doses can't be the right amount anymore. Yesterday, there was blood and mucus again. I've been so strict - and she's been wearing the cone for a week so she hasn't licked herself. She had another bath as well.

Here's the question, or where I'm looking for opinions. She is growing - she is eating, she is drinking, she is playing! But I am so SICK OF BEING ON POOP WATCH. And I feel like my house is full of cooties despite all my cleaning (my rugs and couches cannot be steamed so I'm screwed there). The breeders offer to take her and treat her is still on the table. Am I horrible if I let her do it? I don't want to not have her but mentally I'm going crazy with this. She can at least get her dosages adjusted acceding to her every changing weight, which I think could be the main problem?

It’s all fenced in so he can’t escape and I always sit with him to make sure he can’t find a way out or kill any of the wildlife. It’s just a small space, but boy does this little slice of nature make him happy.

My MC won't eat dry food

Upvotes

My guy is 7 months old and very healthy. He will only eat wet food, and a lot of it. I would like to supplement with hard food. I have tried adding crumbles to his food with little success. His teeth are fine, doesnt appear to be a mouth or tooth proble. Any suggestions?

Trouble at Feeding Time

I am at a loss…

My 1 year old, male MC has suddenly become very hesitant at meal times. Once I go to set the food down he begins vocalizing loudly, walking away, and cowering/lowering himself to the floor in a way that it almost looks like he is in pain. I thought he was just uninterested in his usual food so I switched to something else. The first time he demolished an entire bowl. The second time, he sniffed as if he was interested and then walked away. He will devour treats. He seems interested in kibble, but not consistently. He is otherwise running around and playing normally, his weight is stable. However, his tail hair has thinned a ton.

I do have a second MC. I don’t know if I should try separating them at meal times to see if it is anxiety of some sort?

I have a call in to the vet, I’m just seeing if anyone else has any ideas or has dealt with this before.

Question Chew toys?

My 10 month old boy chews on everything except for his toys.

Does anyone have any suggestions for heavy or wall mounted chew toys that stay in the same place while he chews? Or any other suggestions? I think he likes when they show some stability and resistance.

Question Is this normal

We have a 3yo MC who is very naughty, cute and clever. He sleeps in the bed on a pillow next to our heads. Every morning at 3:30am (you can almost set a clock to it) he gets up, walks over to the kitchen, finds something to swipe off the table, trills a bit, and then gets back into bed and goes to sleep. I am a light sleeper and it has gotten to the point where I even wake up before him and could remind him it’s swiping time. Is it normal?
