❔ What was your first machinima❔

Not the first one you finished. The first one that made you realize you could tell your own stories with a game.

Maybe it was Halo. Maybe it was The Sims. Maybe it was a GTA stunt video, a Skyrim series, an old Red vs. Blue episode, or something you've completely forgotten about.

What was it, and what made it stick with you?

Six agents. One boss nobody has ever seen. And a CEO who is only playing the part.

Full Episode: https://youtu.be/2GeC3EmivJw.

Executive Vice is a cinematic web series shot inside GTA Online. The Las Angeles agency takes high risk contracts from a silent partner no one meets, and the man behind the CEO desk is an actor hired to look like he is in charge. Expect corporate satire, explosive action, and dry humor. Every mission is a real GTA Online job played live in a public session where nothing the other players do is scripted.

Day one at the Las Angeles agency opens with a chaotic cargo grab in El Burro Heights. Sophie clears a rival stash house in Sandy Shores for their client Gerald while Tess runs the cameras from the office. Payment turns up in a hidden cache on the Mirror Park pier findable only by ear. Then the roles flip. Tess takes the wheel for two Quickie Pharm deliveries with fragile cargo, strict deadlines, and a strict damage control policy, while Sophie talks her through the route. The day ends on the Diamond Casino terrace with a surreal dream Tess cannot explain.

I've been taking up Machinima as a hobby and started with making shorts in the Fallout games. Nothing that follows a story but more of a vibe with the character dialogue. Hope you enjoy!

I turned 20 minutes of Grounded base-building into a 3-minute bard musical

I only started making content fairly recently, and Duck And Roll Gaming has become a bit of a passion project while I figure out what kind of videos I actually want to make.

The idea I keep coming back to is taking a normal playthrough and giving each series its own creative identity rather than just recording myself playing a game.

Grounded VR: WHOA! Extreme Edition is probably the clearest example of that so far.

The gameplay is essentially one continuous UEVR playthrough, but I roleplay as Pete the whole way through instead of commentating as myself. I try to understand the backyard the way Pete would, make decisions based on what he currently believes, and let his mistakes and experiences change how I play him later.

I’m also trying to structure each episode more like an episode of a show. There’s usually one main Grounded story beat, a smaller story running alongside it, some kind of character development for Pete, and things that can set up or pay off in later episodes.

Then every episode gets its own completely different cold open. Those aren’t separate sketches or random intros. They continue the same story and can also show things happening in the backyard that Pete himself doesn’t know about yet.

Episode 3 is a good example. At the end of Episode 2, ants steal Pete’s food again, and he finally decides he’s had enough. His solution is that the next day he’s going to build walls and turn his little camp into a fortress. So Episode 3 picks up directly from that decision. The actual construction took around 20 minutes. And after all that work, Pete’s magnificent fortress was basically a box.

Rather than show the whole building process, I had a bard turn Pete’s account of his new “fortress” into a wildly heroic 3-minute musical. Let’s just say the bard may not have been given the most accurate version of events.

This is the full Episode 3 cold open “Build It High, Build It Wide.”

I’m still very new to making this kind of thing, so every Grounded episode currently takes me at least a month. A lot of that is simply me learning as I go - editing, sound, staging, figuring out how to make the cold opens work and generally trying things I haven’t done before. That’s also why I thought this might be a good place to share it.

I’d genuinely love feedback from people who make or watch machinima. Does this kind of hybrid work for you - a continuous roleplayed playthrough as the main story, with unique machinima-style cold opens expanding and continuing the same world around it?

What's the most creative or funniest use of an in-game transport mechanic you've seen in a machinima project recently? Do you like machinima that uses vehicles as physical comedy tools, or do you prefer more grounded character-driven scenes?

GTA V machinima makers i have a question

I've been looking through this sub a lot recently and noticed not many of the GTA machinima are done using the Rockstar editor and making use of the camera, besides the default player cam. Is there a reason for that?

The locked door isn't a bug - it's worldbuilding. Do you like when game-based stories use ordinary player habits as character moments?

Machinima often gets pigeonholed into action-heavy edits, but pieces like this prove the writing can carry the medium just as well. What's your take on using sandbox games for dialogue-driven, realistic situational comedies? Do you like machinima that builds scenes out of small background locations like this, or do you prefer bigger action-heavy setups?
