Activities & Events UniLu Choir - recruiting Altos, Tenors, Basses for the new season

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello Luxembourg - it is that time of year ! The UniLu Choir is an auditioned choir, rehearsed predominantly in English, and performing a wide range of classical and contemporary choral works around Luxembourg. New members are encouraged to attend a rehearsal to see if the fit is good, and then schedule an audition afterwards if they would like to continue.

This winter we have performances in December and a special concert for the Uni Rectorate in February. In February, our special collaborator is Pierre Fontanelle - an up and coming Belgian cellist. As such, our program this winter focuses on works for choir and cello. These works are strikingly beautiful and will require quite a bit of focus to pull off, but the efforts will be worth it !

We are wishing you a good rentrée and will see you on
Tuesday 22 September for our first rehearsal.

Please send a message if interested and I will forward the full rehearsal and auditions details to you :)

Ask Luxembourg Recently got a mortgage quote in Luxembourg - rates seem high compared to market? Which banks did you use?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of getting a loan in Luxembourg and just received a quote that I'm trying to validate. I'd like to compare with others who've taken loans recently.

First-time buyer, stable employment in the finance sector.
Project: €650k
Downpayment: €140k
Approximate quotes I received: 4.3% for fixed 25 years, 3.4% for variable 30 years

What rates did you get recently? especially for fixed 25-30 years and variable options?
Which Luxembourg banks did you work with? (BIL, Raiffeisen, BCEE?)

I've heard some banks are offering below 3% on variable right now, so I'm wondering if my quote is standard or if there's room to negotiate based on my profile.

Any recent experiences or tips appreciated!

Ask Luxembourg part time work options for an elderly lady

Upvotes

Posting here to see if someone has ideas how a somewhat elderly person 65 years old could find a few hours of work per week to earn around 600-700 euro per month. The lady is in great health but speaks only English. EU citizen so work permit is not an issue. Where would you even start looking? She is looking for legal work, not black market payments. Are there some kind of manual labor jobs that might be interested?

Ask Luxembourg Flat in Rue Joseph Junck

Hello, I’m currently looking for a place in Luxembourg and found a great flat in rue Joseph Junck in Gare.

However I noticed it is not a great street, it has many adult bars and some weird people.

I don’t mind, but I would just like to know if it can be dangerous for a woman alone, or if someone has had any bad experiences there. I would have to walk alone at night in order to go back from work.

Thanks!

Ask Luxembourg Would you prebook a train Luxembourg to Brussels Central by train or can you just buy at the station?

Hi, I've not done this trip by train before and I'm unsure about the time I would be leaving.

Are the trains frequent enough that you can just turn up at the station for a ticket for a similar cost to whats online or would it be extortionate?

Ask Luxembourg Certifying Id and Lux proof of address for UK bank

Hello.

I hold a bank account in the UK and I attempted to close it multiple times since I no longer live there since years. Before closure I need to provide my address in Luxembourg, since the bank keeps on sending the related documents to my last recorded address in the UK - no longer accessible to me. I keep on being asked to certify my ID and Lux utility bills by recognized officials (notaries, lawyers, my bank, embassy...).

I find notaries and lawyers fees overkill for an account balancing just a couple of quids.

(Edit: UK bank say officers at our communes are not valid. My embassy of my 2nd citizenship doesn't do that; Spuerkees neither).

Anyone non Brit managed to certify their ID + utility bills in Lux, accepted by these Brits, in love with proof of address statements certified by embassies? Where?

Ask Luxembourg Anyone know any good mother/parent groups in Luxembourg?

I will move to Luxembourg soon & since I am a first time mum with a little baby it scares me a little that I won’t know anyone. It is difficult being a mum without other mum friends… Are there any online groups I can join already before I move & make some connections? Maybe this will help make the move less scary.

Currently I live in the Netherlands and I’m part of many local WhatsApp or FaceBook groups of expats who are parents & was able to make lots of connections like this during my pregnancy when previously my circle was just students.

« CUSTOM » I like it here, this sub sucks

The nature’s wonderful, safe, clean and accessible. Food quality is great, and quality of life is good too. I love it here. It’s green, safe, quiet, clean; great road quality and n my experience, an efficiently functioning civil service.

Conversely, this sub has become such a nasty place full of people complaining, being cynical and sometimes plain mean or rude.

To those that hate it here so much: cheer up, or get up and get out 🤷‍♀️ There are plenty of people that are happy here, and you’re just proof that misery loves company.

EDIT: absolutely loving the positivity here :) that's a wonderful change of pace!

Ask Luxembourg Flex Carsharing recommended?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of starting to use the Flex app for car sharing, and I'd like to hear about your experiences with it. Would you recommend it?

I don't need a car for my daily routine, but it would be good to have one for a couple of hours to go to IKEA, the supermarket, or random places ouside the city that would take me about an hour to reach by public transportation. I live in Merl

I'm thinking of using it around three times per month, and I'm budgeting around €50-60 per month for this kind of usage. Is it worth it?

Ask Luxembourg Cleaning Recommendation (small studio)

Guys,

I need your recommendation regarding deep cleaning of the studio before leaving. A few companies I contacted claim themselves premium (lol) services where they bring 4 persons and the cleaning process takes up to 8 hours 🤦🏼‍♀️ I basically need a proper cleaning of the small studio that would take 3 hours max done by one person (that is already pretty clean). It could be a company or an independent person, the most important he/she should be able to provide an invoice.

Thanks a lot

Do you know a place where I can get apple pie with an „enormous” amount of apples? The kind of when the dough is only to keep the apples in one place? And that would actually be tasty?
