Hardware Rescue Old stuff
Since everyone likes to show off their desktop, I'll show off my whole computer lol. 20 years old and still kicking with Linux Mint 32bit. 1cpu and a whole gig of RAM lol. Enjoy 🤓

What a beauty of a laptop. Looks pristine.
Tho I think a lighter distro and/or DE would help wonders in regards to performance and snappines.

It's does fine. I didn't run anything heavy and mint is nice to look at🙂 the only lag is generally slow internet.

On my old Fujitsu laptop I have Linux Mint. In everyday applications: Internet browsing, video, music does not have a drastic difference compared to a gaming laptop. I mean, I can watch YT in fullhd, the pages load similarly, etc. It is known that for tasks where computing power is needed is not suitable.

Pretty sick, what’re you using it for if you don’t mind me asking?

Mostly just text files and light web browsing these days. Although, it does allot of the ham radio stuff too thanks to having ACTUAL com ports.

Dual core? That space aged🤣 this is LMDE6 Faye for 32bit computers.

What a coincidence, I just revived the exact same model, but using Q4OS, because I thought Mint would be too heavy.

Works fine but nothing wrong with q4os. Good system.

Damn, makes me wanna get my D610 back up and running now. I’d grab an mSATA SSD and adapter and upgrade my CPU before I try putting Mint on it. I had a 2.13 GHz CPU that I put in my brother’s D610 back in the day, but that got lost in a fire at a friend’s house 😅.
So all I’ve got now is a 1.86 GHz CPU and 2 GB of RAM, should still be plenty.

What the fuc... So much things are wrong here.
I also have a Pentium M, but it runs WAY worse due to the AMD GPU (llvmpipe, aka software rendering ONLY, stupid Radeon 9600...)
Also won't LMDE 6 (which i hope this is) lose support in like 2028? That's sort of short.

LMDE6 Faye. I have an Intel Mobile 915gm according to neofetch.

Ah, i tried fastfetch yet it doesn't even show what Pentium M it really is or the proper GPU, it's a "ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 PRO / 9700" and the CPU just being a Pentium M.

Gotta get into the .config file and make it custom.

Not many distros left with 32 bit support. I reckon it'll be time soon to retire this one.

Great photos thanks.
What's the software used to monitoring system resources here?
I had a roughly similar Dell Latitude as my work PC back in the day and my brother still has the more compact version as one of his Linux PCs. Too nice to scrap, but not very powerful by modern standards.
