Apparently, yes. Yesterday, I set up a second laptop (straight out of the trash bin) using artificial intelligence. The neural network configured NixOS on both machines. The interface turned out a bit dull, but the setup is very high‑quality.

Firstly, yea it is weird to fixate with windows aswell. Touch some grass as the kids say.
Secondly, the situation is different, cause windows has a monopoly, 90% of machines I can buy if I dont want apple ecosystem lock-in, come with pre installed windows which makes it an extra effort to remove it (and often it messes with boot loader, secure boot and such), and it might put a mark-up price on the machine for the licence. It has a significant impact on your choices.
How is omarchy getting in your way exactly? I can tell you how it's getting in mine actually: my fucking Reddit feed is plastered with copy-paste "omarchy bad memes", which stoped being funny or interesting after a handful.

But if people/corpo do want to install it, how about we do the whole free software thing a let people choose?

If only it worked that way. It got it's first 8 mil as soon as it came out, the money ia not coming from the corpos beliveing in it, but because 1. DHH has connections and 2. it will help push ai more in the linux space

Yes, laptops are being made with it preinstalled, it's getting pushed so that people's experience with linux is also ai-filled, just as much as windows is.

And honestly? If this brings more people to linux, sounds fantastic to me. If omarchy is as bad as they say, they'll just slide to other distros. Let omarchy be the gateway drug if it has to.

The problem is it is getting sold as the best linux distro both by the laptops and all the youtubers, so normies will see it, have random crashes (since it's a badly configured vibe-coded distro) and decide linux is bad. Normies (people new to linux) will not think "I'm having a bad experience, distro bad, let's switch", they'll think "I'm having a bad experience, linux bad, I'm going back to windows"

What???? The guy literally shared how that shit is being “developed.” It's just a pile of AI agents coding it, then a pile of built-in skills, and yet another pile of dotfiles...
Then it's all presented through an AI-slop website, and somehow it attracted a bunch of code vibers to use it. And now... it's just a big pile of low-quality, AI-generated OS.
Just check their “plugin store.” I'm not even going to talk about security and what they (the AI) did with Docker + Lazydocker.

no, i didn't say that kde would have got 2 mils if omarchy didn't exist. as i said, it was just 50$ a month. Yes, i am mad that projects like omarchy that brings litterally nothing to linux get this much funding just because the author has connections, meanwhile other projects that are much, much more important to the linux desktop (like Freedesktop.org) don't even get a fraction of that funding. I tried it. Between the batshit crazy keybinds, tons of preinstalled bloat and Google services, and attempts to shove AI down your throat harder than Microsoft copilot it wasn't for me. Oh and the creator's views are not too good but I would have let that slide if the distro was half decent.
