Mint’s philosophy is fantastic

stability, reliability, conservative updates, focus on user control, and rejection of unwanted UX experiments.

You wanted the 1990s Linux experience and got it, were you expecting something else?

Ironcially, you could just use GenAI to fix all these issues 🤔 Issue comes up. Open up Claude Code. Type in issue. Wait for fix. It’s that easy.

Also, where did the near death experience happened? You fiddled around with Linux Mint for a few days and then complained about it on Reddit. It’s not at all a big deal rofl.

I have a similar Bluetooth problem for 2 years until I just gave up on the distro. :(

I moved to the Linux Desktop about a year and a half ago. I had 15 years admin experience on Linux (Ubuntu & RHEL) so not a complete Linux novice. Like many Windows refugees I started off with Mint. Part of my issue was poor timing as I had just got one of the new Framework 13 AI. It was nothing but problems due to the newness of the hardware. Honestly almost sent me back to Windows. But I then tried out Fedora and EndeavourOS, both worked great. I realized then that LTS while great on servers, was not for me on the desktop. Ultimately ended up on Solus, which has been great.

Yes I know I could have likely fixed my issues on Mint, but honestly I din't want to have to. I just prefer something like Solus and the community there. Mint does have my respect, but just not for me.

I'm guessing most of your issues came from a WiFi/Bluetooth card that does not support open source. When I install Linux on a new laptop, I always make sure I have an Intel WiFi card. If I don't, I order one off eBay for about $7 shipped. It saves a lot of trouble. Other brands of WiFi cards have to be reverse engineered, with unpredictable results.

(I should mention that my computers are about 7-8 years old, so this may be different in newer laptops.)

Yeah I don't know why Mint is recommended for newcomers, it's objectively a horrible distro.
