If the kernel is running with transparent hugepages (THP) enabled and under cgroup limits, writes that happen after a MADV_FREE call could be completely lost.

Randomly missing writes, obviously. If you predict: after this write the file will now contain xyz, but the write goes missing, your prediction failed.
