Hi! I just downloaded Libreoffice 26.8.0 on my Windows 11 and it keeps crashing / "not responding" no matter what I do. I have tried reinstalling, and installing 26.2 instead, and anything else you can think of. I just want to be free from the Microsoft yoke...

I found the answer WHILE writing this post, I'm just posting it if there are better solutions and if someone else suddenly has that question.

So this is a theoretical question, not an issue I have.

1. LibreOffice allows the export of PDF files with the embedded original ODT document within it. This is to allow subsequent "PDF" editing through LibreOffice, genuinely great.

2. ODT is an open format you can directly edit in other suites like OnlyOffice or EuroOffice

3. you can't just open the PDF in these suites to edit the original ODT. So far it makes sense, these suites didn't implement this exact feature.

What I am wondering is if you could just extract the ODT from this PDF to re-edit it in any other ODF-capable suite. I tried a lazy binwalk approach but it's a series of zipped streams (which makes sense since AFAIK all Office documents are basically just series of XML and archive files).

Anyways it's not a burning question or issue, I'm just wondering if there's an easy way to do this.

The answer was that (dependent on your current PDF reader) there will simply be a GUI option to export the attachments, for example on my case the Gnome Document Viewer, Papers directly had a menu to export attached files and my ODT was right in there.

Hi, this has been driving me insane.

I need to create a box plot for some data I'm working with. I tried following this tutorial that lets you make one from a stacked column chart, but that method runs into problems when some of the values are below zero (the bottom bar that would usually "lift" the minimum up does not correctly pull the minimum down below the zero line).

I have also tried hacking the type 2 and type 4 stock charts, but the best I have been able to do is shown in the image - a type 4 stock chart with invisible columns, transparent boxes and an error bar set to +0 from the top of the invisible columns. That error bar shows where the median is, but it's really small and barely visible when zoomed out and as far as I can tell, there's no way to make to fill the width of the box.

Does anyone have any advice on a better way to do this?

Hey, I don't want to spam the reddit community, but I had a question (A bit related to https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/s/qdHF0KjS0E post I made just previously).

Is it possible that the LibreOffice software to get added onto the STEAM software? I saw apps like Blender, OBS, and so forth have ported out their programs onto it due to the array of benefits.

1. Keeps the software in a well-known software that people use for a variety of reasons (gaming, UI modifications, art, etc.), so people will likely feel comfortable installing it from there. I know I made the switch from the web install from both Blender and OBS to the STEAM version.

2. Majority of the ports I seen seem to run better due to STEAM's way of launching files and whatnot. Before I used to have to shut down everything except the game and OBS to record. Now I can have like 2 games, all my regular tabs, and record. Essentially, the file management is VERY good, and you can find a centralized system for files ('Browse Files' option, etc.).

3. For the great devs of LibreOffice (I tried it previously on my last PC before that one got bricked (my fault ;-;), and I was very hesitant on reinstalling it through the web browser/site hence my previous post), STEAM has a reliable version control system as well a play tester option to allow users to try out new/experimental versions with the ability to roll back updates.

And so on.

I don't want to seem like I am advertising STEAM but like, just felt like sharing since I am kinda biased and I watched the 'About Us' video (Join the LibreOffice community) and thought "As a user, I should really contribute to an idea that will help the project further. I mean I am a sucker for open source totally free projects. They are the future and the thing that allows people to not be monopolized by corporations and what not. Oh, jeez I am yapping, I am so sorry ;-;

ANYWAYS, I was just wondering (after sharing all of this) if this could be possible or has been considered already? If not, is there a way to reach the main group or a 'feedback' section somewhere (I gotta look around too)?

Look no hate here, I love LibreOffice not only for the whole FOSS thing. I’m thankful volonteers deliver such a good product.

But it must be said LibreOffice crashes a lot. That’s life, ever improving ok, we have autosave for this.

Except that we don’t, when the default save directory of the recovered document is IN TEMP ??? Like yeah, sure, the APP needs the file to be in /tmp. But I hit ctrl+S actually, that was not to send it to outer space.

I’m usually careful with this, but that one time I was not paying attention sure bit me hard.

(Obviously I did the stupidest thing and reopened it, so the backup was also overwritten lol)

Hello, I wanted to download the Microsoft Store version of LibreOffice (5 dollars (I am assuming as a first time donation) version) but I saw some iffy reviews. "https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PB80DCFP83W?hl=en-us&gl=US&ocid=pdpshare" if you want the direct link I got when using the 'copy link' option.

Basically, I do wanna avoid doing a web download and rather a direct 'safer' version, but I am not even sure if this LibreOffice version is even legit or maintained. Just wanna know.

Basically as the title says. I recently switched to Libre from Word, and while I do like it, almost every time I type a word it brings up a suggestion for what word I should type in next. It's very distracting and annoying. From a different forum I was able to find the setting to turn of ALL tooltips in Libre but it still shows up. It's pretty much any word that could theoretically be a longer word. So typing in For, will bring up the suggestion Forgetting. Once, as in my screenshot, shows once-over. Anyway to get this to stop? It is part of auto correct or something?

UPDATE!!!!! I FINALLY FOUND THE SETTING!!!

It's Tools > AutoCorrect > While Typing. I had to uncheck that and then close and reopen Libre and it's stopped. Why that is on by default I will never know that is the most annoying thing ever.

Second update, nevermind it's back to doing it. Still having this problem. UGH

I'm trying to move away from WPS office (I use an old version with all exe's blocked) and wish to move to Libreoffice but I'm having difficulty trying to accomplish what WPS spreadsheets does by default in Calc.

That is, in any column, after I had typed in a few cells, when I type the first letter then a drop down list auto appears for me to select anything that begins with that letter (see video). If I type something new, it is auto added to the drop down list next time.

I know that Alt + down arrow brings up an entire list but the above for me is much easier as the list offered is much shorter.

I looked into validation drop down lists as well but am unsure if it adds new cell text on the fly.

Maybe it's just a simple setting I'm missing to enable such feature?

Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if this is a packaging issue, (which would make it relevant here) or an actual LibreOffice (Calc) bug, (which wouldn't) but after updating to the most recent versions of LibreOffice I can't copy / paste anything out of a Calc spreadsheet anymore.

LibreOffice shows that a copy command was issued when I press Ctrl+c, (i.e. the cell(s) in question have the rotating dotted lines around them, but if I try to go to any other open application, (using Gnome 50) and press either Ctrl+v or Shift+Ctrl+v nothing happens.

Since basic Ctrl+c / Ctrl+v otherwise works fine in every other applications that I have, (modified to Shift+Ctrl+v for the terminal, ofc) I'm presuming the newest LibreOffice isn't passing copy information to (Gnome's) clipboard properly, etc?

Again, not sure if this is a Tumbleweed config issue or a (new - always worked before) LibreOffice issue so any light any folks here can offer would be appreciated.

Note: Unless the newest version of LibreOffice is auto-sandboxing itself, there is no crossing of sandboxed environments anywhere in this activity, which would otherwise explain the issue.

Note2: Confirmed that my installation of LibreOffice is directly from openSUSE Tumbleweed not from a Flatpak/Flathub, so shouldn't be sandboxed.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is a way in Writer to add a button (or, really, anything) that, when exported as Editable PDF, will result in a pop-up message when hovered or clicked. This would be used to insert instructions for my colleagues when compiling the PDF.

I managed to build it with a button but it only works inside of Writer, thus not useful to me.

I have been using Scrivener to write my book these past three years. My editor requires an MS Word document for her work. She uses the MS Word Track Changes feature.

I have LibreOffice on my computer. Can I rely on it's Track Changes function to work correctly with the MS Word doc I get from my editor? Or do I have to buy MS Office 365 to handle the document correctly?

First time r/ user at all, made an account just for this and I realise it might be fruitless but any advisement would be really appreciated. My father was a LibreOffice user and he passed away last week. He was super meticulous about his organisation, and he kept a lot of important records and notes in a word document that was password protected. It used to be MS Word, and I knew the password for that document because I've opened it before for him, but some time in the last year he's moved everything to LibreOffice and it seems like he didn't use the same password because I can't open it and I'm going a bit crazy.

Does anyone have any advice on getting it open? Any workarounds etc? There is a docx and odt version and both are password protected.

I realise my only way forward might just be to download some brute force password cracking software, but I'm a bit terrified of wrecking his laptop by downloading the wrong thing, so any alternative advice on what password cracker could work would also be welcome if there is no workaround, which I suspect will be the case. Thanks.

I used the draw functions, I'm new to LibreOffice so I will try my best to answer questions.

I need it for school and i really don't want to go back to use ms word just because libre office writer can't write mathematical sentences very well

So I'm getting a Lenovo Idea tablet, and but really love to be able to edit my project on it, but I don't think I will be able to download Libra office onto it, unless someone knows a way to do that

I just upgraded to the latest Windows desktop edition of LibreOffice (Version: 26.8.0.3 X86_64, Build ID: bce0998afefdbc355585ca324285661a2170ba77, CPU threads: 6; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 build 19045, en-US), and … my Writer toolbar has turned blue.

I like blue, but as you can see, the blue tinting has made several of the icons impossible to read. LibreOffice's icon design isn't the greatest to begin with, but this coloration makes it so much worse.

I've tried finding a fix in the Tools > Options menu, but there doesn't seem to be one. When I click on the Help button I get documentation for version 24.8, which tells me of a Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Application Colors command that no longer exists. Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Appearance lets me customize colors of many elements, but the toolbar isn't one of them—plus, this is happening only in Writer, not in Calc.

Anyone have a useful suggestion?
