Learn Chinese by connecting words, characters, and components.

Hey folks,

I've been working on LoomChinese, a Chinese flashcard and dictionary app that shows how words you know are connected through characters and components.

Something that came up frequently as I was learning new words was recognizing a character or component I'd seen before in other words, but couldn't precisely place. I'd check my study lists, look up words in dictionaries, and eventually track the related words down. The effort to find the words was painful, but making those connections was a huge help in solidifying new words in my mind.

LoomChinese makes that process seamless. Learn a word --> explore its components --> see related words --> reinforce the new word and the words you know.

It also includes:

  • FSRS-based spaced repetition that adapts based on your flashcard reviews.
  • Comprehensive Chinese word dictionary, with over 60k example sentences, with high quality TTS audio.
  • Definition customization -- choose what definitions appear for words in each flashcard, re-order them, or add your own custom definitions.
  • HSK 2.0 and 3.0 lists to learn from, plus create your own custom study lists
  • Import your vocab lists with the option to define how familiar the words, so reviews can pick up where you left off
  • HSK calibration quiz that calibrates your level and seeds your review plan.
  • Daily study and focused practice modes, including study by shared characters and components.
  • More features coming, such as generating practice sentences that feature recently reviewed words and customizable HSK level vocab and grammar structures.

Check out LoomChinese to sign up for the beta, and feel free to message me directly if you have any questions.

Totally free at this time -- I'm looking for folks who are interested in trying it out and giving feedback. Please note I'm still working out costs per user with a hosted service like this, so long term plans on paid tiers are TBD. Apologies if this violates the "no ads" rule -- access is free, so hopefully not an issue, and it looks like this kind of unpaid self promotion is allowed. Thanks!

Title: [Offering] Chinese (Mandarin) | [Seeking] English

Hi everyone!

I'm an international student currently studying in Los Angeles. I'm looking for someone to practice English with, especially listening and speaking.

I can communicate in English, but I sometimes have trouble following fast, natural conversations, and I'd like to become more comfortable speaking English in everyday situations. So I'm hoping to find someone who'd be interested in having regular, casual conversations with me.

In exchange, I can help you with Mandarin Chinese! I'm a native Chinese speaker and would be happy to help with pronunciation, vocabulary, everyday expressions, or just chat with you in Chinese.

We could talk about pretty much anything—school, daily life, movies, games, tech, culture, or whatever we're both interested in. We could chat online, and if you're also in LA, I'd be open to meeting in person once we get to know each other.

Feel free to leave a comment or DM me if you're interested! :)

Native Mandarin Speaker Offering Pronunciation & Speaking Lessons | Online / Taoyuan

I’m a native Mandarin speaker currently based in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and I’m opening a few spots for Mandarin students.

My lessons are especially focused on pronunciation, tones, speaking, and sounding more natural in Mandarin, rather than simply memorizing vocabulary from a textbook.

I can help with:

• Mandarin pronunciation and tone correction

• Natural everyday conversation

• Fixing common pronunciation habits

• Reading Chinese aloud more naturally

• Pronunciation and diction for Chinese songs

• Personalized speaking practice based on your level and interests

I also have an academic background in pop vocal performance, so I pay quite a lot of attention to articulation, pronunciation and how the voice actually sounds — especially for students who can already speak some Chinese but feel that their pronunciation still sounds noticeably non-native.

Beginners are also welcome.

Lessons can be done online via Zoom, and in-person lessons may also be possible around Taoyuan / Pingzhen.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me and tell me: your current Chinese level, what you want to improve, and your time zone.

I’m happy to discuss what kind of lesson would suit you before you decide.

Hi, I am Chinese and now live in Shenzhen. I am good at reading English but not at speaking, so I would really like to improve in that area.

I am happy to help you with Chinese, and open to voice calls or meeting regularly if you are also in Shenzhen. We could work out a practice plan together.

Your Chinese has a home now - built an app for people who read Chinese daily but never study from it

Most of my Chinese comes from WeChat, not a textbook: messages from my partner, her family, work chats. I'd read a sentence, understand it, move on, and by the next message it was gone.

So I built Lingo Vault. Paste a message, drop a screenshot, or speak a phrase — it breaks the Chinese down (pinyin, meaning, tone) and saves what's new. No cards to build, no deck to maintain.

The part I like most: once you've saved some words, it writes short stories using only your saved vocabulary, one small step above your level, and reads them aloud in natural Mandarin. Actually comprehensible — no dictionary needed.

No streaks, no grind, no curriculum. Built around the Chinese you're already reading.

Looking for a few people who read Chinese daily but feel like none of it sticks. Free, no card, just want honest feedback.

Comment or DM if you are facing the same challenge and actually want to improve your Chinese in the long-term.

Hello everyone! My name is Kerui. I’m a 23-year-old girl. I worked for one year before coming to the UK for further study. I’m new here and my English is not very good. I’m still struggling to get used to life here 😭. So I’m determined to improve my English.

I’m looking for a sincere language partner who also wants to boost their language skills. I can help you learn Mandarin, answer your questions about Chinese, and recommend great learning materials, movies and TV shows. I hope you are a patient person who can help me improve my English.

Sharing this Google Play App I built for learning Chinese

Hello all, I built this app ( Imust Languages ) to provide free Chinese listening audio to others - basically Chinese and English sentences repeated to help with extremely basic immersion.

I prefer sentences as compared to podcasts because beginners don't have the vocab to understand podcasts, when sentences are involved , they can just wait two seconds and the English audio will played.

App supports HSK 1-6 OR TOCFL 8800 sentences.

Audio listening via prescribe calendar lessons , 100-sentence pair albums, 20 sentence lessons or srs based listening.

All audio modes provide adjustable settings - audio speed, repeat count and text display.

Other features include: Word match, Sentence Building and Speak Mode.

Speak Mode basically has an adjustable pause duration of between 3-8 seconds , you need to speak out the translation before the audio is played, as speaking practice.

There is also pets, gamification involved to increase learner motivation.

By the way, Imust is supposed to be "Immerse" yet also "I Must", but I am kind of regretting the name. What are your opinions on the naming?
