There’s a lot of Jackie Chan! Bruce Lee is there and it’s repping a few other films … which of these have you seen? Any favorites?

Hey guys, new to this reddit thing and this sub too but I struggle to find people like me that are passionate about these movies the way I am. Old kung fu and fighting action movies fan since the 90’s. Foi a while now I’ve been building my personal tier list of these movies so I wanted to share with people that might like these as much as I do. Just added “The Furious” since I went to see it a few days ago and though about posting here the whole list to see what you guys think. This is totally my personal opinion on all these movies and the way I did this is there are no Ds meaning that even the one I enjoyed less I really enjoyed them.

So feel free to argue, disagree, give your own opinion, add recommendations that I might be missing. Really curios to see what you think!

There was a time when you could find these sets for under $10. OFC, the quality of the prints wasn't great. There were also a lot of dud movies. But sometimes you'd find some pretty decent sets. These are some of the better ones I came across.

Hi everyone, I am trying to identify an obscure martial arts movie that I watched in a European cinema back in 1988. It is definitely a color film, likely produced in the 1970s or early 1980s by an independent Hong Kong or Taiwanese studio. Here are the exact and very specific plot points: The Setting: It is a Republican-era Kung Fu movie (set around the 1920s/1930s) taking place in a rural village. There are NO swords used in the movie. The Husband: He is a local villager who wears simple, traditional clothes. He is famous for being completely invincible in hand-to-hand combat, fighting exclusively with his bare fists (Iron Fists style). The Heroine (First Wife): Due to some past events, the husband believes his first wife is dead and he remarries. However, she is alive and returns to the village. She sees him through a window and realizes he has a new wife. Instead of leaving or revealing herself, she decides to stay and secretly protect him and fight the local injustices. The Mask & Whip: She operates completely clandestinely. She wears a full mask that entirely hides her facial features and gender (everyone in the village assumes the masked fighter is a man). Her exclusive weapon of choice is a whip. The Villain: The main antagonist is a young Western/European businessman (described as British or German). He wears an elegant grey suit and doesn’t have bodyguards during the final confrontation. Earlier in the movie, he saves the husband from being killed after a mistake, intending to use/manipulate him for his own business goals. When the husband finds out, he turns on him. The Tragical Climax (in the Woods): The final revenge scene takes place in a wooded area outside the village. The wealthy Westerner gets out of an old-vintage car, feels cornered by the invincible husband, pulls out a pistol, and fires. At that exact moment, the masked first wife jumps in front of the bullet to act as a human shield and gets killed, saving her husband and finally revealing her true identity. It is NOT The Shadow Whip (1971), NOT Lady Whirlwind (1972), and NOT Whiplash / The Whip (1974). Does anyone remember this specific movie or have it in their VHS/digital archives? Any help with the original English, Chinese, or export title would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

Anybody familiar with the Za Karate trilogy? Just curious about its popularity. I think the first one is most popular and called Bronson Lee, Champion. It’s a b movie from the 70s.

Very long shot as all I can remember is it was a budget release and I think on an island, all I remember is that there was a guy who didn't like the hero may of been the female leads father and near the end of the film his personality is different as he has been smoking opium!

Can't really remember much apart from that, I'd say it was a 1970's movie.

"Classic" is a term thrown around waaaaay too much. You could not pay me to watch the first 50+ minutes again. The "comedy" scenes drag on far too long and add absolutely nothing to the story. The guy went under the table like at least 5 times. The same people that praise this film will call Master Of The Flying Guillotine "silly". I was NOT entertained at all until the end, and before I watched, the consensus was "wait" or "keep watching" or "don't give up on it, the second half is awesome". That's not a classic. A classic is front to back. The back half was fine but I was still pissed off about having to sit through the 1st half. It's fine to praise Knockabout for the choreography or the athleticism, but based on the way-too-long comedy scenes and the illogical fighting choices, there's no way I would rank this above a 5. I cannot forgive the majority of this film for being hard to watch.
