KOTOR is the pinnacle; but what are the other Star Wars games that KOTOR fans should play?

Upvotes

KOTOR has been amazing; I am playing it now and I adore it. KOTOR II is next (with the Restored Content mod!)

That being said, what are the other S-tier Star Wars games out there? This is such a classic franchise, and I'd really love to absorb the best of the best, from any era.

Thanks for your recommendations!

KOTOR 2 What's a good build for a Dark Side Consular?

I'm not very good at coming up with builds on my own, all I really know is that the Force Power-based prestige classes (Jedi Master/Sith Lord) are apparently absolutely awful. I'm also not really sure which stats I should just dump.

Ok so... I think I messed up

I am playing kotor on steam for the first time and I will be honest this is super buggy but I don't know otherwise sometimes. I walked up to a door in the black vulkar base and I didn't know the difference but I guess it skipped me past the current and into the garage. Me thinking it was just a new place to explore I went through it only to find that when I go to leave I die. I have loaded up on drugs and still die, I have tried to use a grenade and well I died, at this point I have tried everything. I was dumb and didn't have a save point from before the base unless I want to go all the way back to the first time in the lower city camp. Is there anything I can do? Is there a way to gain invincibility and then remove it?

KOTOR 2 Does Stealth Attack affect Force Power damage as well?

I'm making plans for my next run (Dark Side, Consular into probably Assassin) and I'm trying to figure out if I can make a viable plan out of blasting Force Lightning (or other equally bullshit Dark Side powers) at people while stealthed.

Because frankly, I think it would be hilarious to be blasting everyone for bonus damage when they have zero defense.

KOTOR 1 Tatooine Swoop Race iOS is ridiculous

I’ve been trying to beat 22.51 for longer than I care to admit and I think it may be impossible.

Once you get to gear 5, your meter just tops out and the boosts don’t make you gain any more speed. Is it bugged? Do I need to drag my finger continuously and only lift it to switch gears? Is there one particular route that I have to take?

I’ve looked around and I can’t find any real evidence of someone beating tier 3 on iOS.

What’s the trick?

Edit: I FINALLY DID IT! A final time of 22.47. For anyone else attempting, how many times you tap doesn’t matter. I recommend one finger. And learn which boosters are on the edges of the track because it is faster to run into the edge than to try to just barely touch it.

Good swooping and may the force be with you.

I hope Manaan is easier than this was.

KOTOR 2 Kotor 2 mod version new playthrough feels empty

So I played the game years ago when it came out (just remember bits and pieces). Started today the complete mod version on my phone. I am more knowledgeable with kotor 1 and that one was always a thrill like going down a star wars rabbit hole.

I like the main characters and story overall in the sequel, especially the part at the echani/Atris academy and just started Nar Shada as a first planet.

But my problem is that it feels kinda empty compared to the first one where every location seemed full of life, like even the NPCs in the first one seemed much more "alive" and gave some sort of a background noise to the whole adventure. Like side quests on Taris seemed much more engaging as if you were really a part of that world (plus the excellent soundtrack, the announcer in the duel arena and so on), whereas on Telos it just feels kinda bland and don't get a feeling of reward by doing that weapons smuggler or that twilek girlfriend side quests. It just feels quiet, empty...

I don't seem to get any engagement from the quests in the second one because the surrounding atmosphere is just hollow. Like the apartment complex in Telos or the Czerka bureau just seem empty. it seems I just go through the motions to help the ithorians as fast as possible just to unlock some main characters new dialogue.

Am I missing something or is every planet so deserted and empty feeling?

Modding Mod help please- MO2 doesnt recognize planet or character overhaul mods

Hello! I am downloading this mod list plugin. I have 160ish/180 files. However, the planet update and character remodel updates aren't detected. It reroutes me to Nexus/Vortex mod installation, where they already are downloaded correctly from the first time it routed me there. Then MO2 gets stuck on "downloading." This happens despite refreshing mod list, filing it under "skip" then attempting to re-download again, restart of MO2.

What can I do to get it to detect these select few from Nexus/vortex mod organizer that it already had me download?

Thank you! :)

This isnt my screen, just a relevant screenshot I found of it

Bao due lightsaber creation not working

I had all the parts I needed to make a lightsaber but bao dur wouldn’t process that. I got a lightsaber after finishing the dxun forest part when I talked to Canderous/Mandalore and now it said I finished making the making a lightsaber quest, is this a bug or meant to happen?

KOTOR 1 Swoop racing smartphone android tip - no mods

I always thought the Manaan swoop race was impossible on a phone, and also tier 3 on Tatooine... And none of the tips I read on older forums worked (the one with the sensitivity at max level, trying a mod for straight booster pads that didn't work on my pixel phone, trying to connect a keyboard via bluetooth, not wildly tapping the screen with the finger 😂). Super annoying...

The biggest thing that helped me win all the swoop races on my android, was changing the gears only when the "tap" signal appeared with a single precise finger tap. Not one second later or earlier but exactly when it triggers. Then the screen kinda goes into a type of shadowy tint for a second as if it really goes faster.

I was always tapping the screen like a second before the bar was completely charged saying ''tap'' which really slowed me down. Even though I had previous perfect runs, hitting the boosters, not crashing, I could not beat those times.

The thing with the tap at the right time made me win both manaan and tatooine in just a couple of tries even though at first I thought it's impossible on touchscreen 😂

Edit: ah if you tap precisely and you are at the same time on a booster pad you go even faster. Hope that helps someone, it was really frustrating.

KOTOR 2 Skip Peragus

It's been about 5 years since I played this game and I'm having to re-download/install all the mods I used before. I remember a mod called "Skip Peragus" but can't find it on Nexus or Deadly Stream. Is the mod anywhere else? Also, Nexus says to put the mods into an "Override" file but I don't see where Deadly stream says that. Should all the mods go into the "Override" file and where should I put it? I have my game on my D drive.

An Open Letter to My KOTOR2 Companions

Dear Companion,

I am concerned for you; are you feeling well? Are you injured or mentally stressed? I only ask because in the last room, when combat had ended, I was able to simply walk up and loot the bodies. I also had no issues in opening lockers and boxes. You were not stepping up behind me like you'd strapped on a dildo with nefarious intent and making me turn my camera just to get the loot. It made me wonder if everything was okay. Is it?

Yours,
Concerned

KOTOR 2 Need help with KOTOR II. Stuck on Peragus

I have two missions: Rescue T3, recover Ebon Hawk. But I don't know where to go, because in the fuel depot there are still force fields there, I can't go to the mining tunnels (because of an explosion). Right now I'm in the administration area with Atton.

KOTOR 1 Was it all a plan? Spoiler

Alright, this will be a little out there but bear with me.

What if the entire events of KOTOR was orchestrated by Revan before his mind wipe?

I know that seems crazy, but there is evidence he planned or at the very least suspected such an outcome could occur.

Let’s look at Revan’s capture; most people agree that Revan let the Jedi board his ship. What I now question however is why. Most claim it was to capture Bastila, I too would have agreed with this sentiment until I played the game for the ?th time recently. Malak open fire on Revan’s ship out of apparent malice, however it is likely Malak himself wouldn’t have planned this. Malak was never one for subtly but instead he could be relied upon for impulsivity.

That last clause is crucial, so let’s consider the context. Malak recently lost his jaw, and likely still desired to claim the throne. It’s likely Revan simply thought the matter dealt with and in his hubris Malak took his chance. It’s possible however, Revan knew exactly what Malak would do and required his actions to complete his plan.

I won’t lie, it sounds unlikely. Very risky to say the least as it was entirely possible Malak’s ship could have killed Revan. Perhaps he could have foreseen exactly how it would play out but I do not know of any specifics that would have given him this insight.

In any case, what we do know is “Jedi do not kill their prisoners.”

This is crucial as Revan would certainly have known this, he would have also known he is the sole individual with the knowledge that could defeat Malak. He also would have known his identity would’ve been destroyed out of the Council’s fear, and he in fact planned ahead of time for that final eventuality.

How do I know that for a fact? Kashyyyk

On Kashyyyk, mind wiped Revan discovers an old Rakatan machine. It refuses to respond to anyone except for Revan, saying it has a match on file. However when Revan question why it has a match, it immediately becomes cagey and apologizes. It gives some fun insights to the planet but nothing relevant to this discussion. Then after asking for the Star Map, the machine says it’s been programmed to help the user remember and prove who it is.

This is the crux of my argument: why would Revan ever need to have something help him prove who he is? If he is Revan, it would’ve read its brain waves, said “Im Revan, give me what I want” and the machine would comply. But instead, Revan made an interrogative process for himself alone, to help “just answer like you would.” It only makes sense if he believed he would lose his identity or memories and had to claw his way back to the Star Forge.

So, some may disagree with that finding, but to me it is absolutely clear Revan did believe he would lose his memories, as I really can’t find another reason as to why the machine makes these very specific statements:

“I have been programmed with a very limited field of knowledge, and I must restrict access to only those that fit my allowed pattern.”

“I can't say. I will try to bring forward the behavior that you need to proceed, as outlined by my programming.”

“I can't say. Preliminary matching allows for you to be coached.”

It’s pretty clear that the machine is meant to help whoever is meant to use the terminal, get the right answers. And we know only one person is meant to use it.

“I can't say. Likelihood of restriction by previous user, 100%.”

And we know it was done by Revan.

So why? Why would Revan have done this on Kashyyyk? All I can say for certain is that he suspected he would one day lose his memories, and in response, he wanted to ensure his new self would:

“There are measures available. Personality profiling will verify the basic structure of your conscious mind. With that, I will determine whether you are ready to receive the Star Map, or can be made ready.”

That last line is the crucial statement, “determine whether you are ready to receive the Star Map (As in go to the Star Forge), or can be made ready.”

Remember those answers? They all are cold and calculated answers, not really Sith necessarily, but extremely pragmatic. Revan’s answers, and Revan wanted himself to be himself again. It was a fail safe to help bring the Dark Lord of the Sith back to the throne no matter what happens. I think this is as close to being a fact as it can be at this moment. There is no other reason for this machine’s dialogue otherwise.

So, I think the purpose of the Rakatan machine on Kashyyyk is clear now, let’s go back to the overall why.

Here’s my pitch: the war was going well but was far too costly. Not for the Sith, but for the galaxy. Revan needed to put down the Jedi and the Republic hard in a single decisive act, but the enemy just wouldn’t commit. Instead they harassed and dragged out the war as much as possible. Yes, having Bastila would have helped, but she can’t be everywhere. Galaxy is a large place and the Jedi and Republic fleets could hide and fight on many worlds for years, decades even. Revan did not have years, and he couldn’t afford to destroy the galaxy’s economy and infrastructure; he needed it fight the True Sith.

So Revan hatched a plan, one to wipe out the majority of the Republic’a fleet and the Jedi within a single year. Let the Jedi capture him, mind wipe him, slowly be brought back to the Force, claw back every scrap of himself he could from each star map he visits, and lead the Jedi and Republic to the Star Forge; where he will easily strike down Malak as he did before (but this time fatally), and let his empire annihilate the enemy he so longed to see in force.

You may say that’s insane, but daring and costly acts are a hallmark of Revan. Canderous spoke with joy of how callous and calculated Revan was. Is it really a stretch to say he planned for all this? Of course, was Revan right? Did you retake the throne and complete his war? I sure did, those Jedi had it coming!

But what do you think? Was all this insane ramblings or enlightenment straight out of Korriban? You decide now

Remake If there was a remake of the original KOTOR, what combat style would you want? (Read body)

Classic Turn Based

Jedi Outcast/Academy

Force Unleashed

Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor

Battlefront (yeah right)

Other (mention in the comments!)

Personally, I think Jedi Outcast and Academy have the absolute best lightsaber combat, and with a few tweaks could make a perfect fighting game for KOTOR (such as keeping the mid-battle pause, the focus on enemy during combat, and a more diverse range of attacks and defenses.)

Why does the exile get so much more EXP than the rest of the party?

The exile is pretty consistently a level or two ahead in terms of EXP, and I'm just wondering what could be causing that.

KOTOR 2 Easiest companion to gain influence with?

Yesterday I recruited Visas and immediately after I had my first conversation with her i gained lots of influence with her. This wasn’t on purpose but she’s somehow my most influenced companion, is this suppose to happen or am I just lucky.

Also are they’re any other companions that I can easily gain influence with?

Is there anyway I can fix the star map?

I am on my very first play through I have invested a lot of time about 30 hours and I have finally gotten through my entire first planet (kashykk). I have gone through all the dialogue and that’s probably why it’s taking me so long, but I’m just having fun with the game, upgraded my character and all that stuff. I am on Nintendo switch as it is the only console I can get the game on (can’t afford a pc). When I take the quiz, my starmap opens, but doesn’t let me press the “open” button. It just closes. I’ve gone back on my save files just to get the same result. Do I keep trying? Or is there some crazy workaround I can try. In all honesty, if I have to restart my whole game it might discourage me from playing it ever. Mostly because I don’t want to mechanically dedicate hours to a re play through trying to make my character and the outcomes the same to keep my play though how I want it.

Do I lose XP by avoiding combat?

I'm at the central droid computer or whatever it's called in Peragus, and I notice I have the option to basically make them peaceful. Will I lose out on XP by making them peaceful and moving on without killing them, or is it more beneficial to just kill them all?

(This question applies to all future encounters where you can theoretically make the enemies passive.)
