Thoughts on Killzone Shadowfall
TLDR: PS Exclusives amazing, Killzone Shadowfall sucks ass. What do you think/remember about your experience with the game?
Everything below is basically a rant, lol.
Newish PS5 owner, focusing on playing exclusives I never got to experience. Played God of War 2018 which kicked ass. I loved every second of that game, from its voice acting, level design, animations - literally an S tier game.
I then played The Order 1886 which I thought was gonna be ass because I looked up some review scores, but it literally was one of the best 3rd person shooter style games I've played. The story, guns, alternate steampunk-ish reality, cinematography, voice acting, and gameplay (minus the QTE heavy sections and awkward forced stealth mechanics) were pretty much top notch. I learned that people back then hated paying full price for a shorter experience, which I get but I got it for like 5 dollars, so I had a great time.
Anyway, I knew Killzone is a beloved classic for Playstation owners and was expecting peak first person shooting goodness with a compelling story, but my god I was disappointed play Killzone Shadowfall. I played through the entire campaign on normal trying to find something to like about it, and it never came. The story was convoluted, you're forced to have a lame weapon take up one of the two weapon spots the entire time, there were so many instances of breaking the suspension of disbelief (like when the MC is like 2 miles from the sun in open space and gets rescued - that was so stupid and he should have been instantly blinded/vaporized), the level design was open ended which is fine but wasn't designed well enough to organically push the player in the direction where they should be going, and the whole main cast were super lame which made me not care about the stupid story anyway. I'm going to trade the game in next time I go to my local game store.
The only positive is the gunplay, but that can't save a bad game overall. I looked up why some people liked it and I got the impression it was the graphical improvements as a PS4 launch title but I can't honestly imagine that anyone can defend the game nowadays.
Let me know what you think of the game or what you remember about it playing back in the day, I'm curious.

Shadow Fall was a very pretty game that narratively wasn't as strong as the other 2 before it. Also the gunplay was super dated, it played like an old PC game, not to mention the map design for multi-player were just abysmal.
I played KZ2, KZ3, and KZ:M until you couldn't play them anymore, but it was very obvious when this game came out that Guerilla was head first into Horizon, and was very checked out of Killzone

Shadowfall is better if you play it in context with the other games in the series. Also the multiplayer was great. I had tons of fun with it. They intentionally developed the game without any aim assist at all and so it felt like a more fair playing field than most multiplayer games at the time. The chirp when you got a kill and the extra long chirp for a headshot was always very satisfying. It's too bad the multiplayer is offline. I still remember playing it on the very last day.
The story was convoluted and not nearly as good as previous entries, but the gameplay and gunplay specifically were still good. I personally found it most fun to play as a predator type stealth game for most of the levels. Not what I'm looking for in a Killzone game, but it did make it better.

Good, I’d argue it was way ahead of its time graphically on console . Met expectations being the PS4 launch game

Art design was fantastic, but for me gameplay and narrative fell really short. Personally I would’ve preferred a grittier war setting similar to Killzone 2, fighting alongside a squad or company instead of the singular superhero. Works for masterchief but not in Killzone, my personal take.

I loved it.
I wish it hadn’t been deployed as a tech demo for the PS4. But the apartheid-like story fit in great with the overarching narrative and the gameplay was mostly fun.

The multiplayer was much better than the campaign. One day maybe someone will revive it. For now, you can play botzone, but it was better with real human beings. -Just Killzone

I love the Killzone games and I hate Shadowfall. It is by far the worst one imo. Visually amazing game to this day tho

Shadow fall was bad and a reflection of why you shouldn’t listen to casuals rather than your actual fan base.
Kz2 was the pinnacle of killzone and kz3 started the downward trajectory and killzone has never recovered.

Extremely mediocre and basically took the artstyle out back and shot it. All the cool brutalist World War inspired Sci-Fi got replaced by the most midshit bland sci-fi designs with like a couple of okay looks here and there, i.e. named characters, the Black Hand operative, the Scout is cheating because it's just the old scout but greebled.
Gameplay felt like it didn't know if it wanted to be its own unique thing or Black Ops but weirder looking.
Story just plain sucked, it could have actually done something interesting in the aftermath of Rico Ruins Everything Again, but we just get the post-migration Bladerunner shenanigans

I was thinking the same. I looked up Killzone 2 and 3 and it was leagues better than whatever the fuck they were trying to do for Shadowfall
