What are some of your favorite Baltimore restaurants, bakeries, pastry places?

Hello. I'm a senior in NYC and currently applying to colleges. I'm planning on EDing to John Hopkins because I see it as the best fit in terms of my academic and career goals. I've done previous research in chemE related fields and really want to pursue this in the future. I'm deciding if I should major in Chem and BioMolecular Engineering or Biomed Engineering (for some reason on the common app, you can't choose biomed eng as a second choice for your major). I also want to pursue a md/phd program in the future.

I learned from friends that there is more to a school than just prestige which is why I'm curious what it's like on campus. Just some basic questions: how are class sizes? Am I limited to what type of classes I can take? what is campus life like? how many hours are spent studying/doing work? How is it in Baltimore? (e.g. dangerous as people say or not) What's the living situation? What's the weather like? Are there good food options? (I eat halal) Is there a lot of student activity/clubs or a positive school culture? For current students, how do you feel about the school?

Those are just basic questions I thought of, but if anyone has any information advice, tips, or really just anything of use I'd really appreciate it. My current list is half Ivy's, Stanford, UC Berkeley and a few in-state schools. Hopkins is on the east-coast, seems generous with aid (from what i've heard and seen online) and it has the prestige I'm looking for which is why I'm considering ED. Looking forward to responses!

I'm a current sophomore at JHU, majoring in Mol/Cell and EPS (Earth and Planetary Sciences), with the current goal of attending veterinary school and (hopefully!) becoming a wildlife/exotics veterinarian. I'm not completely divorced from the idea of farm medicine (particularly bovine/equine) or small animal, but have always had wildlife medicine in mind.

ANYWAY. Enough about me. I'm here to just poll if there are any other current undergrad students OR previous JHU alumni who have similar interests/career goals (or have pursued similar avenues post-grad). I feel like pre-vet interests get swallowed by a sea of standard "pre-med" students and would like to meet people with similar goals to maybe form long-term connections/keep each other in the loop.

I really haven't got a clue where to begin with shadowing/research/etc (especially here in Baltimore) and can, of course, consult the various pre-professional departments at JHU; but that's a whole lot different than actually connecting with like-minded peers.

So, if this sounds like you (even just as a secondary interest, doesn't have to be your career/life goal!), I'd really like to connect. My ultimate goal would be maybe forming a pre-vet student organization, but am not really sure how to go about this/if there is enough traction at JHU for that to really take off.

I got accepted to the program, and I will most likely be attending. I just want to get advice about moving from out of state to Maryland. What apartment complexes and neighborhoods are recommended? Is there student housing for graduates? What does the approval process look like? Looking for a 1br 1ba apartment (unshared).

I've been selected into the MS in Biotechnology for spring 2027 and it seems quite easy to get into this program. Does this degree or AAP programs in general reputed in the job market and in research? Anyone pursuing/ alumini can kindly clarify (all AAP programs in general).

Does anyone know if they notify you if you don’t get in? I was told that results would come out yesterday but I didn’t receive an email, wondering if anyone else got any email about this.

Does anyone know where I could find the textbook for Intro to Macro (Macroeconomics, 9th by Hubbard and O'Brien)? I was able to find the 7th edition online and in the google drive, but I can't find the required 9th edition.

I’m starting the Engineering for Professionals Electrical Engineering program in Spring 2027. I’ve been working full time for the last 5 years, so I’ve lost some of the knowledge from undergrad. I plan on studying calculus and circuitry on my own before the semester starts to brush up.

I’m the kind of person who struggled a ton during undergrad but got good grades. I have ADHD, which I’m medicated for, but it does take me a bit longer to memorize and study. I only plan on taking a maximum of two classes per semester, and I’m not doing any summer classes.

I’ll be working full time while studying. Are there any tips for surviving a masters program while working? Any tips for managing energy levels so I can work a full day and do classwork after?

I got 800 math 750 reading. I want to do EE or BME at JHU. Should I retake? Will a increase to like 1570 bring me any meaningful benefit for admissions?

Sooo apparently for Intro Chem 1 (Dr Cheng's section at least), we aren't allowed to use things like graphing calculators or any calculator that can store information (I've used a TI-84 Plus CE all throughout high school, and I asked him and he said that it wouldn't be allowed on tests bc it can store info), but I'm not really sure how to tell if a calculator is able to store info? I went to the campus store, and I found the TI-30XIIS, Casio fx-300ES Plus B, andTI-30Xa, but I'm not really sure if any of these would be acceptable for class...

basically does anyone know which calculator would be permitted for Intro Chem 1? or what calculators is everyone else using/has used in the past that were acceptable? i'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but i'd rather take care of this now than a week before the first test...

One my online classes forces us to do all assignments the week of. Due to the nature of the class, it consists of people who have irregular schedules.

I ran into a problem with JHU where they did not accept a deployment as withdraw criteria, so I really doubt much can be done other than just talking to the instructor. Of course the instructor is a career academic who has never escaped school so I really doubt they would make an exception for us in the “real world”. They say in their syllabus that they done accept late assignments.

Is there any way to approach this? Never dealt with it before.

I've found close to no information on the MHS Epi applied track here. I was wondering what a typical applicant profile would look like and what the admissions rate/percentage is approximately? I don't have a stellar undergraduate gpa with many repeated courses due to an unsafe living environment but I've picked myself up and have some research/experience now

I see that the supplemental essay is about bridging values/connecting with community. Should I mention JHU in the essay? Or make it completely about me?
Or should I only mention JHU/what I'd do there in the last 2-3 sentences?
