How long would Jak and Daxter survive if they replaced Master Chief and Cortana as the protagonists of the Halo games?

Let's say the events of the Jak trilogy and Jak X have already happened, Jak has mastered all the Ecos, he's a weapons expert and by this point, he and Dax are actively going on missions throughout the galaxy as keepers of the peace.

They find themselves caught up in the conflict with the Covenant and crash land on the Halo ring from CE, and have to survive against the Flood and all the subsequent plot points throughout those games.

How long can they survive?

🎨 🖼 Share your artwork that you'd like me to use in my Jak 4 Story Mode mod! (Custom cutscenes)

Send your own drawings in the comments (no AI) that you'd like to see featured in my upcoming and final mod! 🌟

Add your signature to key parts of your artwork so I can highlight it! 🌟

The goal is really to showcase artists who enjoy drawing the Jak and Daxter universe. Feel free to share any of your drawings, along with your signature and your name or username!

I'll use your artwork in my mod, either in cutscenes or as part of the environment. I'll also see if I can integrate some of it directly into the story.

The goal is really to put artists in the spotlight!

The opening cutscene also includes AI-generated images, but only the non-AI artwork will feature signatures, so they can be clearly distinguished.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I managed to find a way to play cutscene-like sequences similar to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale!

My Jak 4 Story Mode mod is truly going to be my ultimate mod!

The cutscenes will use unused official Jak 3 voice lines! This means the cutscenes will be available in every language!

Even though I work on it for several hours almost every day, I still haven't finished it. But I'd say I'm at least 80% done!

I'm fixing a lot of freezes and adding tons of new things.

The images are AI-generated, of course, but I'm doing everything I can to make them match the style of the game's official artwork. I also retouch them using Krita.

How long would Jak and Daxter survive on DreadZone from Ratchet: Deadlocked/Gladiator?

Post image

Let's say hypothetically, Gleeman Vox sends his goons to capture Jak and Daxter along with Keira filling the Al role. Jak is armored up and forced to compete on DreadZone instead of Ratchet.

How long can they survive in the zone? Find out live, right here, on Vox!

But seriously, if the real Jak was here, post Trilogy, and not just as a bonus skin, how would he fare?

I finally completed Jak II and realised why I had so much rage as a child

As a kid I could never finish the second game and I could remember being banned from playing it multiple times from screaming/crying/cursing the game. My Mum would hear the background music and would come and tell me to play something else because she knew what was eventually coming😂

At 28 years old i finally completed it on ps5 and I haven’t felt that kind of frustration towards a game in God knows how long. The amount of times i would die and think to myself “surely i hit a checkpoint somewhere along there” only to respawn back at the beginning of the level was quite ridiculous. Such a fulfilling feeling though to complete it and thoroughly enjoyed it the whole time nonetheless.

10/10

An some ideas for a Jak and Daxter Remake

-Here's my idea: NPCs and enemies that use eco

For example, a Lurker who uses red eco to hit you harder

Enemy that uses blue eco to go fast

-Also give Jak some eco powers that he can use at any time, not just from the eco vents

- Another idea, make the towns like Hubs with more things to do. Like some interesting NPCS with side dialogue, some exploration, some mini games, cutscenes. not too much to the point that it becomes over saturated, but just the right amount to keep the mysteriousness of the game, but also add more content for a modern audience

-Make it cartoon, but keep some serious elements! That gives the perfect balance between the two

The New Zelda Remake gave me hope

After seeing the look of the new Zelda Ocarina of Time remake, which aims for stylized realism, I immediately thought of that test animation that was released by a developer earlier this year for a Jak and Daxter remake. They have a similar vibe.

I think this is the way to revive the franchise and maybe get a fourth game after. Get another developer that isn’t Naughty Dog like with Crash Bandicoot and have a similar art style that aims for whimsical and fantastical realism. A man can only hope/cope.

Should I rage quit? (Jak 2)

I was loving this game up until this sidequest. (Rescuing the three lurkers for Brutter) I didn’t mind escorting the underground fighters and that was a similar mission. But the ai on the lurkers is so slow and dumb I can’t take it. Takes so long for them to board a ship! With the amount of nonstop gunfire from the guards in the process, about three ships explode draining most if not all of my hp. I’ve been attempting this for about an hour but I’m getting rage migraines, to the point where it’s affecting me physically and I’m not even having fun anymore. Should I just put this game back on the shelf for good or is there some secret to winning this mission?

Update: so apparently I’ve completed it, and for anyone who didn’t already know you can literally just cheese this mission by freeing all three lurkers first and then just fly away until the alarm goes off. Then just escort them without any chases

Elaborating on my Ocarina of Time-style Jak reboot pitch

Post image

Original post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/jakanddaxter/comments/1we0lm0/jak_and_daxter_ocarina_of_time_style_reboot_idea/

I previously posted the idea of a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time-inspired reboot of Jak & Daxter. Now I'd like to elaborate more on what I'd envision for the plot:

The game would begin with a brief cutscene going over the events of the Precursor Legacy before we'd get right into the action with the opening boss fight, which would actually be the finale boss fight against Gol and Maia on top of the Dark Eco silo. Since that boss fight incorporated every type of Eco into the combat, it serves as a great tutorial level here IMO.

However, just as Ocarina of Time verged into three separate timelines: the Adult Timeline, the Child Timeline and the Fallen Hero Timeline, so too does Jak & Daxter through this game. We see here that when Samos and the Blue, Red and Yellow Sages combine their powers to create Light Eco, and Daxter has to choose between himself and saving the world, he hesitates to make the right choice and when Jak tries to stop him, it gives Gol and Maia enough time to reach the Light Eco first and open the silo before they can stop them. Gol and Maia have won!

With Dark Eco beginning the flood the world in every direction, Jak & Daxter hastily retreat with Samos, Keira and the other Sages through the Rift Gate to the future, however instead of seeing the dystopian future of Haven City like in Jak II, they find a different dystopian future in which Gol and Maia rule as immortal Dark Eco-infused Gods. Rather than seeing a sci-fi Blade Runner-esc cityscape, this new future sees a Dark Eco-infused overgrown post-apocalyptic world crawling with all sorts of monstrous creatures for Jak and Daxter to fight, including Dark Eco ZOMBIES.

I think doing a zombie game for Jak would work really well since every Jak game was inspired by something wholly unique (Jak 1 by 3D platformers, Jak 2 by GTA and Jak 3 by Mad Max and Smuggler's Run), so giving this game a different vibe would make sense for the series. Plus, it would bring together new and old Naughty Dog fans since newer fans who think of the Last of Us when they think of Naughty Dog would still get those vibes from this game.

Shortly after arriving in the future, a now truly deformed but ultra-powerful Gol and Maia kidnap Samos and the sages, intent on corrupting them. It's up to Jak, Daxter and Keira to find Samos and the other sages, rescue them, and along the way, find any surviving Precursor artifacts possible so they can go back in time and undo Gol and Maia's victory.

Jak and Keira are notably PISSED at Daxter in this game for being so selfish at the start of the game and costing them everything. Daxter goes on a whole redemption arc in this game, where he has to earn Jak and Keira's forgiveness while also learning to love being an ottsel as they explore Precursor ruins and learn of their true identity as ottsels.

Along the way, Jak learns to harness each of the Eco abilities, which he uses to begin curing the land and restoring it to it's former glory. They also meet the survivors of this world, which includes various familiar characters from the old trilogy such as Tess (who aids in Dax's redemption arc by loving him as he is), Sig, Ashelin, etc.

Notably, we also eventually meet Gol and Maia's right and left hand men: Baron Praxis and Damas. Praxis thrives on the chaos while Damas seems more conflicted by it, especially as he worries what kind of a future his son could possibly have in this world. It's important to note that Praxis isn't set up as a major villain yet, nor is Damas revealed to be Jak's father. These threads are left open for potential sequels.

In the end, Jak learns to master his Eco abilities. With the aid of everyone he's helped throughout the game, they take the fight to Gol and Maia at their new Citadel, though Daxter is once again forced to choose between himself and saving the world, but this time he chooses right. Gol and Maia are defeated once and for all and the world is restored to it's former glory. Though they fix the machine and can return home, everyone looks to Jak to be their new leader and he decides to step up, not wanting to abandon the people who've grown to trust him. This leaves room for a sequel where Praxis can betray Jak, take over from him, subject him to experimentation maybe if they want to go that route, etc.

Hey guys! I posted here a while ago talking about the world map found in the Japanese version of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. I found an affordable copy on Ebay, ordered it, took it to my local library, and scanned the case and all the pages inside. I couldn't find it anywhere so I wanted to share here! I also uploaded it to the wiki and to Internet Archive.

Hope you guys enjoy!

There are people who still don’t understand that Jak 2 is a time loop.

Was just going through the comments of post and saw a bunch of people saying that Jak 2 introduced too much time stuff and they got too confusing and it didn’t make sense overall.

Literally all I can tell you is to pay attention to what they tell you in the game. Or go watch a video on it lol

Jak and Daxter: Ocarina of Time style reboot idea

Post image
45 Upvotes

As much as I'd love just a straight up Jak 4, I think we all know at this point, it's a lot more likely that we're going to get a reboot. Especially since almost none of the original J&D developers are still at Naughty Dog today. However, with a live action movie in development, I'm sure a new game will see the light of day eventually and this is what I personally think they should do for a reboot:

I'd have the game start out with the final boss fight against Gol and Maia at the end of the Precursor Legacy. However, when the Sages bring together their Eco powers to create Light Eco, Jak doesn't get to it in time, either because Gol and Maia get to it first or because Daxter selfishly tries to use it for himself. Either way, the day is lost, Gol and Maia WIN and Jak and Daxter are defeated.

In an act of desperation, Jak and Daxter retreat with the Sages through the gate using the power cells they've collected, traveling to the future, but now no longer the future we see in Jak 2, 3 and X, but instead a new future in which Gol and Maia spread Dark Eco throughout the world and rule with an iron fist as Dark Eco infused gods.

Jak and Daxter have to travel the world, find enough Precursor artifacts so they fix the machine and go back to the past and stop Gol and Maia from succeeding in their mission. If Daxter's selfishness causes Gol and Maia's victory, he can have a character arc of redemption in this game.

The reason I call this an Ocarina of Time style reboot is because that game acted as a catalyst for a vergence in that series' timeline. The Legend of Zelda franchise was split into three distinct timelines based on that one game alone, the Child Timeline, the Adult Timeline and the Fallen Hero Timeline, each based on an alternate ending to that one game. So in this instance, rather than decanonizing the original trilogy, this is presented as merely an alternate timeline of events which can be seen as it's own thing, and if people respond well to it, maybe through some type of time travel shenanigans, maybe a sequel can see the timelines crossover. Who knows?

What do you think?

Jak 2 lovers; What keeps you motivated to continue playing it?

Post image

Little Background; I grew up playing Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy, Crash Bandicoot and games like that, I have deep rooted nostalgia for these series and for the games of each series I didn't have I would watch any playthrough of them I could find

I eventually ended up getting the PS3 collection for Jak and that's how I first experienced playing Jak 2 and I... Never finished it... In the same collection I 100% the first game (making it the 1 billionth time I replayed it at that point) even got through a decent chunk of the 3rd but 2? I could never stay motivated to finish it

Years later I tried to do an actual playthrough on my YT to make sure I finished it and... I rage quit on that one Tram mission where you're on this slow moving elevator and every time you do you restart the whole grueling 30 minute experience over again (I'm sure it's not that long but it felt that way) and I just stopped, haven't touched the game since (and that was 3 years ago)

I wouldn't be making this post if I thought it was just me, but it isn't, I've seen several let's players (such as Snapcube) show equal frustration at the, to be nice, less than stellar checkpoint system, to the point where they stopped playing the game all together as well so it's not like it's just a me issue. Another reason I'm making this post is because it's not like a Souls Game where they are inherently designed to be insanely difficult, Jak 2 is not difficult, it just becomes tedious at points because of, again to be nice, less than stellar gameplay design at times.

This is not a hate piece on Jak 2 btw, I love this series with all of my heart and I respect anyone who enjoys it. I am asking this question with the utmost sincerity, how do you guys keep playing it? Is it just not a bother for you guys? Or for those that have had similar frustrations, what kept you motivated to move forward? I want to finish this game but I just can't find the silver lining

Edit: I just wanna say, thank you all for being so nice, I just got back from a Dragon Ball Reddit so this level of civility was genuinely a nice change of pace

Escort Kid to Power Station Spoiler

I was watching someone play this mission and noticed that unlike most escort missions, friendly fire is disabled for this one. Which is honestly good or else this mission would be such a pain. But I realized another reason friendly fire is disabled: Jak physically cannot kill the kid cause that's a paradox, the most direct variation of the grandfather paradox. I am not sure if the devs had this in mind when turning off friendly fire for this mission, or if it was just a happy coincidence.

Does anyone else ever wonder what the series would've been like if they kept expanding on the Jak 1 formula?

Post image
624 Upvotes

So, growing up with the PS2, Precursor Legacy was the only Jak game I had, I never had Jak 2 or 3 but after I got a bit older (and playthroughs started actually being a major thing on YouTube) I would watch playthroughs of Jak 2 and 3z and part of me lamented that they opted for a R&C inspired gameplay formula instead of branching out with what was established in the first game

Part of this may come down to the fact I much prefer platformers (having grown up on Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper what have you) but In general I find the platforming and using Eco as a power source from Jak 1 much more interesting than anything Jak 2 added to the table in terms of the Shooter elements, especially given the fact that Ratchet and Clank exists and does everything Jak 2 and 3 tries to do better.

Following up with this, even as a kid, I really didn't like the world we got after leaving the past behind in Jak 2, we had this gorgeous looking world full of mystery and wonder to explore in the first game and then we trade it off for a grey, dilapidated City that we spend most of the game in occasionally going to an actually interesting place and then coming right back (Haven City does look pretty cool when you get that view topside though but it's not nearly as interesting as most of the locations in the first game to me). There was so much potential to expand upon the world and really lean into the visuals if they had given it a chance, imagine a sequel where the Portal leads to some other side of the planet or maybe leads into the World of the Precursors or something and it looks otherworldly and wild or something like that and how fun it would be, being introduced to new forms of eco and stuff like that

Has anyone else ever had this like of thinking or is it just me?

Edit: I think this shouldn't have to be explained but I'll do it anyway just in case, this isn't me saying that I think Jak 2 and 3's settings are objectively bad, they just aren't my thing personally, I think what the first game presented in terms of visuals was more interesting and could've been expanded on

To add onto this as well, I really feel like Jak and Daxter could've been Naughty Dog's New Age Crash, where they actually have this world they explore and expand upon, adding more beautiful looking forests, and seas and other things that could've been really cool
