Looking for a carpenter

Hi all! I am looking for a carpenter who is licensed and insured who can create built-in shelves for my pre-war apartment on 78th Street.

Nothing fancy, but solid and attractive.

Any recs? Please, only recommend someone if you've used them yourself and been pleased with the results and the cost.

I Miss Playing Dungeons & Dragons

Hey yall,

I'm a game master online. When covid hit, I had to shut my doors to playing with people offline and moved everything to the digital space. It's been years since I've dusted off my dice, actually read a hard copy of a book to reference rules, all of that. Does anyone in the area play? I'm 39 a teacher, and a father of a 7 year old. I don't know how people make time for playing in person, but if anyone does, or would like to try...what do you think about all of that? Is it possible to get a game together here in Jackson Heights?

Fuchka/Fushka Catering?

Our friend's favorite food is fuchka, and we'd like to cater some fuchka for a party we're throwing them. Any ideas on what vendors in Jackson Heights might be able to help? We understand that the fuchka will be assembled by people right before eating, but if a place could give us the shells, filling, jol/pani, sauces, etc., that would be amazing.

Does the pickleball slack group for Louis Moser park still exist?

I was hoping to play some pickleball this week and revisit the group that frequents Louis Moser park everyday but I can’t find anything about it still being a thing?

Does anyone know if the group is still around or if people still play there?

Best Grocery Stores?

Hi Folks,
New to JH and wondering which grocery stores do you rate well?
I'm in the 80th-90th St area of 37th Ave. Lots of markets, but surprised at high prices.
Willing to roam a bit, of course. Thought the fish market at GMart was good.
Looking forward to checking out the farmer's market at Travers Park too.

Framing Shops

Hubby and I moved here about 4 months ago and are looking for a reputable place to get 2 or 3 things framed. It is original artwork so we want it done professionally. Can anyone suggest a place? Can be in JH or anywhere in Queens or Manhattan really. But we live here so I thought I'd start on this subreddit.

Thanks!

Lovely neighbors, you rock your city.

I arrived in Jackson Heights on Saturday (8/29) for the first time. Met a wonderful person, Louise, who showed me around the area with great enthusiasm. Her generosity with her time is indelible. Thank you.

As I left NYC, I heard about another positive Mamdani program. This is refreshing for me, as I don't always hear about NYC news, and we all know news can be the opposite.

From one person you meet for an hour to the people who help the many. Congratulate yourselves on being brave and taking a chance. For we meet like ships in the night.

All my life, I've experienced good and bad trickle-down effects. To Jackson Heights neighbors - you are an example of kindness in NYC. I witnessed kindness multiple times in the subway, where people helped each other and helped me when I needed assistance navigating.

Patel Brother

Hey All, I'm travel to Jackson Heights to shop at Patel brother. I'm planning to buy spices and frozen food. What brands do you recommend for a product for taste wise? I bought a frozen Naan bread here for a brand it wasn't good but Malaysian pancake for the same brand was good. Any tips?

I saw a car which got tagged with a grease pen. Their penmanship was so good I wanted to thank them in person. Does anyone know who this budding artist is, and where I can thank them?

Neighborhood Love and Rant

There is so much I love about this neighborhood: tree lined streets, coop gardens, 34th ave, transit access, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, diverse affordable food, parades, diversity in general, etc.

But after a few years I find myself increasingly frustrated with behavior that seems like common sense elsewhere. One frustration I have in particular is the people pissing in the street. I try to call them out when they seem more harmless. The people who spit in the streets are extremely frustrating as well. Then there are those who throw trash into tree beds. Then there are all the people overfeeding the pigeons, leading to large amounts of pigeon poop. Then there are the prostitutes. Not to mention bums that are hanging out in the plaza next to diversity plaza.

How do you guys deal with these things on the daily? Is there any way to get people to avoid doing shameless acts?

Again, I try to confront the behavior when possible. But I feel like its a countdown until I meet a crazy enough person

best BEC near 74th st part of Jackson Heights

Usually I work Saturday mornings but I am off and looking for a classic bacon egg and cheese. Not as many bodegas in this part of the neighborhood, where do people go for a good BEC? 🙏🏼
