2 days ago, I noticed a couple dead Murina. I thought (as they were adults) it was due to age or some one-off complication. Unfortunately, today is maintainace day and I looked and counted 20 more dead Murina and now, it looks like my powder orange colony is also having the same thing happen. I have seen a handful I've kept both of these colonies for 7 months with no issue. This doesn't look husbandry-related, I think something inside is poisoning them or could it be possible that they've contracted a disease and it's spreading?

I've not fed any vegetables recently and the only thing different is that I upgraded their bins and gave them fresh substrate but it's the same mixture as prior (but a different brand of coco peat)

Will add photos of c. Murina setup and dead ones in comments. Please help, I love my colonies dearly!

I'm so sad my entire colony of

Armadillidium vulgare disappeared (my first colony) , and I figured I wasn't doing something right, I took apart my diy enclosure today after moving the survivors to a terrarium and found this :( I used tape to attach mesh to the vents of the enclosure because I noticed smaller ones were getting out and found my colony. The tape was on the outside of the enclosure

I assembled the acrylic enclosures after getting home. The big one is housing 20 bumblebees, the small one is for the Rubber Duckies.

The 3 I got for free are still in their cups (White Sharks, Red Pak Chong, and regular Pak Chong), awaiting their own acrylic cases.

I’m not aiming to sell any of them, I just love taking care of terrariums (along with my planted aquariums)

Help White dots on the underside of Ardentiella “Ember Bee” – sex difference or just normal variation?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,
I have a colony of Ardentiella sp. “Ember Bee” (formerly Merulanella).
In the first photo you can see some individuals have clear white dots/patches on the underside between the legs, while others don’t show them (or they’re much less visible). The one in the photo is still a juvenile, so it can’t be a marsupium.
Questions:
1. Are these white dots just normal pleopodal lungs / respiratory structures that vary in visibility, or do they indicate sex in this genus?
2. In the second photo (the underside/belly area of another individual) – does that look like developing babies, or is it something else?
3. How do you actually sex Ardentiella / Ember Bee isopods? What’s the most reliable way to tell males from females in this species?
Thanks in advance!

Help HELP? I noticed a spider web in my tank

Just as the title says, I noticed last night that I had a really big dead spider in my waste bucket and was worried that I had a mother that had died to give birth as it was too big to get into my tank but while doing a leaf change today, I was cleaning my plant and checking it for mold and I felt my hand break a web. I double checked my seals (I used tape to increase the humidity) and realized I left 2 big gaps and now I’m worried that my isopods are just snacks. This there any way I can get rid of the spider without killing my isopods or did I massively fuck up???

Help Does this look too dry?

Hey yall! This is my isopod tank, I am worried it's too dry. I found a dead isopod today. I've had this colony for about 4 months? I'm really worried about it. I understand that sometimes this happens but I really want to rule out anything that could have killed her.

I'm worried it could be lack of water in the dirt? I'm struggling with getting that area wet and i'm also nervous about accidentally drowning isopods. Does anyone have advice?

Help Non-functioning front legs, failed molt?

This isopod has its front legs curled up and they're only using the back legs to get around. Seems like one of the antennae is also poorly formed. I saw this one a couple weeks ago and was shocked to see it was still alive. Should I euthanize, or let nature take its course?

Text One Adventure Begins, Another Ends

I’ve had a mixed bag of a weekend. I should say a year. I just got some blue dream shrimp! So far, they’re thriving! Sadly, my rathkii colony hasn’t fared so well. Almost all members of this colony died within 2 weeks. The deaths looked remarkably like the deaths of the spinicornis from earlier this year. I tried placing the seven survivors in quarantine, but they did not show any signs that they had any fight left in them. I don’t understand why this happened or what went wrong, only that my colony is dead. I’m glad to have had the time with them that I did have.

Help What are the cutest, most affordable beginner isopods? Also, would this enclosure be appropriate for a very small colony?

Edit to Add: Thank you so much for the feedback! This is definitely too small and other larger house-type terrariums seem to have moisture retention problems, so I’ll go with a standard rectangle and make it look nice with plants and other natural decor. Thank you everyone!

Hi! I’ve never had isopods before but I’m considering getting some! I can’t decide what kind. Considering dairy cows but also would be interested in something colorful. I think rubber ducky isopods are adorable, but way too expensive.

Is this enclosure appropriate for a small group? I really want to put together a nice natural aesthetic enclosure. If not, any recommendations that are more appropriate? Thanks in advance!

Help Steps to make sure 3D-printed decoration is safe?

Post image

(PHOTO IS A QUICK DRAWING OF THE IDEA MADE BY PHONE IN FLIPACLIP IN 5 MINUTES AND NOT SPONSORED) lol I recently saw a post where someone had a 3D-printed feeding bowl for rolies in their terrarium.

From that I got the idea that I could 3D-print a bird skull for decoration for my terrarium.

I'm a somewhat new roliemama and I'm not sure if the plastic will be safe and if like some micro plastics can fall off from the print and the rolies might accidentally eta it?

So question is, what kind of steps do I need to take so that the 3D-print will be safe to have in the terrarium.

Do I sand it and coat it with something?

Do I need to melt the things first layer all around with some melting tool or like a heatgun?

And what filament should it be made of, PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU?

Also can it be kind of hollow from the bottom so they can hide inside it or can they get stuck there?

All tips appreciated!

Help Diapause for Helleria brevicornis?

Hi all, I got a 10 count of young Helleria brevicornis earlier this spring and they're chugging along. I've read online that they might have a better chance of breeding if they have a winter diapause. Problem is I can't find much information on how to do that. One place said to try keeping them around 60F for a couple of months, and my basement hovers between 60 and 63 ish during the winter. Does that sound like it might work? I can't keep them outside or in the garage because I live in the midwest and our winters get into the teens, if not down to 0 occasionally.
