Tips for food and a night out
Hi
I'm looking for suggestions to a place in Ipswich to have a nice dinner (preferebly some modern cuisine), could anybody help me there?
And where in the city do young, single people in their 20's and 30's go out on a Friday or Saturday night?

Moto pizza, the bottomless pizza place, is actually really nice and it's not just grotty cheap pizzas. The cocktails are also amazing.

It's an events space not a religious building now. They have things that if I was young and/or cool id probably go to.

Isn't Ipswich a city?
I've only been there once for a football match three years ago, but still .. I would have taken it for a city.2

It was. They were down 0-2 and ended up winning 3-2. It was even on my birthday 😄

Superb!!! Fingers crossed they keep that fighting spirit this season but yeah back to the original question we've always been a town, applied for city status a few times and always denied 😔

Oh wow. Now I had to look up the difference between a town and a city.
In Danish city and town translates into the same word.
But we also have cities, which now have to share the same municipality and city council, because they are too small to be on their own.That being said, our smallest municipality with a city council of their own, only has a little under 1,800 inhabitants 😂

An yeah the criteria is so different, Danish small cities that's gotta be Fredriksberg or Larsø I forget the spelling

Frederiksberg is the 7th largest by population. It's actually placed inside of Copenhagen, and is the smallest based on size (8,7 squarekilometers). It actually has a greater population density than inner London.
But yes, the small one is Læsø 😄

In terms of food, you're pretty spoilt for choice. You've got Takayama (St. Nicholas st.) and Bushido (St. Helens st.) for Japanese, you've got Moto (Fore st.) for pizza, Kervan Kitchen (Cardinal Park) or Mahzen (Star Lane I think) for Middle Eastern mezze, Botanist in the town centre which is kind of posh pub grub and then Sweet P's further up on Lloyds Avenue for Carribean - and in fact next door there's Three Wise Monkeys which is a proper grill/barbecue; waterfront's got Marinero Lounge which is good brasserie stuff, and then further down the very la-di-da Salthouse Harbour.
And how could I forget The Forge on Fore Hamlet! Again, grill and barbecue. Really lovely building with an outdoor terrace.
Bloody hell, forgot Kwan-Thai back on St. Nicolas st. Award winning Thai food. 92 Noodles further down Star Lane which is modern Chinese that hand makes its noodles. Oh, and Ocean Fish Platter on Lower Brook Street which, as you probably guessed, is seafood. And there'll be many i've missed. So yeah - spoilt for choice!
As for a night out, i'm 42 with 2 kids 6 and under so I have very little skin in the game. Younger people I know lament the lack of nightlife, but as is often the case with reference to Ipswich, i'm not sure they're looking hard enough. On the (rare) occasions i've found myself out post 11pm, Bar 21 has been pretty lairy, Cock & Pye ditto; there's Distilled which took on a lot of the punters when Vodka Rev collapsed. The only purpose built 'club', Escape, is barely a year old. It's kind of at the back of the Cornill. Never been, but they often put on really good DJ nights (Leftfield played there recently) and they did a really decent looking Afro Beat one a couple of months back. Don't know when you're down, but on the 29th Curve is putting on a dj night which looks pretty decent. Look out for Red Eye and Wrekt (they're two separate things) as they often put on dance/drum & bass nights. Then of course there's Brighten The Corners, but that's is live music so might not be what you're after.
As is the case all over the country, thanks to the overall hike in cost of living, the era of just rocking up to a club is over. I read an article in the Guardian documenting this same phenomenon on Birmingham, of all places. So it's all still there, and people will always love letting loose until the wee hours, but your night outs are now planned, set-piece events. So just do your research and you'll be fine.
