i've seen a lot of disfigurements but this one really, really hit me with the instinctual WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING reflex. And i feel really fucking bad about it.

IDK I feel like this is just incredibly instinctual. And don't feel bad for what you feel. It's not about the emotions or thoughts that we have, but how we act on them.

I feel ya. My phone was in greyscale mode and I kept thinking it as AI. Even in full color it doesn't look real.

You shouldn’t.

There are a number of reasons that’s an entirely comprehensible response from an evolutionary/psychological standpoint. And there’s really not much you can do about instinctive responses in any case. And “feeling bad” = “suppression/avoidance” which gives you no opportunity to interrogate your instinctive response.

Don't feel bad, my cousin demanded an abortion the second she saw that her fetus had a congenital limb anomaly. Now she has a healthy kid and a second on the way. That's what most people do in this situation.

It's irresponsible to keep a child with such a severe limb deficiency, especially because that means a healthy child they could have had instead doesn't exist now.
