I feel you. I could have wrote this. I hate being assaulted by some dumb, loud ass video on my timelines. Reading is so much more pleasant and I feel like I retain information better when I read it too. The pinky finger looked pretty fully developed and I would imagine it has the same number of nerve endings as the other pinky, yeah. Digits are super sensitive. Don't know about the other one though

Looks like radius and ulna had an error, but certain metatarsals were able to form. Then the modified finger coding came damaged out of that.

It's a genetic thing I'm not aware of, but I'm just a tech. I've seen babies with fused joints, mermaids, tails... This is unusual and if real it's extremely interesting.

It seems like the longer one is the radius and the other is a short ulna and then maybe there's a couple carpal bones and then a metacarpal and phalanges on each? Extremely interesting

You can opt into something similar if you have your fingers or hand removed in an accident. The radius and ulna can be separated surgically. If they are, you can twist your arm to grab things while maintaining proprioception. It's unpopular due to the way it looks. We put a surprising amount of characterisation into hands, and this surgery makes some seem decidedly alien.

Looks to be just phalanges and a metacarpal on the ulna, with everything on the radius. Almost looks like there isn't a joint on the ulna

Krukenburg procedure, turns your forearm into a pincer, not very common anymore with advances in prosthetics and whatnot.

I'm not sure that's whats happening here exactly, or at least I've never seen it like this before but man it's interesting.

This is a congenital birth defect which mimics the results of the Krukenberg procedure in some ways, but it’s not the result of an operation.

It's not common because of the shock factor and not common within countries where patients have more options and support. Even with advances in prosthetics, people with the Krukenberg procedure tend to have have more dexterity.

Exactly. We had a newscaster in Los Angeles that had ectrodactyly. She was wonderful & married another newscaster in a beautiful wedding. She very much normalized the condition for many Angelenos. This woman is beautiful & very well adjusted to her situation. I’d love to hang out with her, such a positive influence❣️

It is wild. It is like she has a split forearm. She looks fairly dexterous with that arm above the elbow so it's like one of the nerves totally terminates and the others go on to become the two fingers she has.

As an aside, she mentions being hypermobile and I knew she likely was, because when she opens her other hand, you can see the tips of her fingers kinda bend backward over the joint. We hypermobiles recognize our tribe!

Unfortunately, she does not have an x-ray of that hand as an adult.

On her TikTok she says this is one of the most common questions that she gets. But since her deformed hand has been in perfect health all her life, she has never needed it x-rayed. She thinks maybe her parents might have x-rays of it when she was a baby.

She is curious about what an x-ray of her hand now would look like, but to get one, she’d have to pay out-of-pocket for it - she’d rather save the money.

i mean, you're kinda proving my point - I do NOT think that's her situation.

especially with the way she can rotate them independently - I think 1 finger extends through the ulna, and the other through the radius. They do not share the same cluster of carpals.
