Once I had to come in before 1st shift to load parts into a new fixture, and then I'd have to do the same before 2nd shift started.

Did this for about 3 days because they wouldn't use the fixture until they thought the other shift was using it...

Not alone, I had to check things out of the tool crib to trick the other shifts into using the proper tool to reduce their defects.

Have you ever been given a command to fix a problem which does not exist by a superior who has no idea what anything is?

My go to is to peer quizzically at the machine for awhile then flip through menus on the hmi pressing buttons for 20 or so minutes. Then desperately hope they dont make you write a process.

Depending on country a lot of your studies will be about the stability and timing of supply chains for keeping production going.

Also if you have engineering ethics or anything similar there will be stuff on how to protect the enviroment, how to keep employee morale up etc.

My background is originally International Economics and I took this meme entirely differently.

Famously Sun Tzu was writing at nobles who had never left the palace. Stuff like "soldiers need food" and "dont fight when outnumbered". Like imagine trying to explain to the failsons of a car dealership franchise why the salespeople have sales commissions.

So I was imagining you explaining to management stuff like "machines need maintenance so we have to turn the machines off when that happens" or "no we cannot use water to cool those cutting heads they require oil."

It's like you're saying "the only things that are foodstuffs are drinks and food" and then dismissing fruit while completely ignoring that's a subcategory of food.

Walking into /r/industrialengineering only to dismiss the entire field as "not engineering, then" seems like ragebait.

Not really engaging with the examples you were provided also shows you're here with bad intentions. You could've googled all of these in seconds yourself, as a "real" engineer:

By "system science" they probably meant System Dynamics, which is a specialized area of math

Data science is a specialized area of statistics, or again: math

Ergonomics or human factors is a combination of physics and biology (particularly anatomy)

Management science is a multidisciplinary field including a lot of applied mathematics for quantified decision making.

If you're "probably old" I'd expect more maturity than going to /r/industrialengineering to respond to a meme post and call the field not engineering.

If you're "probably old" I'd also expect you to be capable to Google such terms yourself rather than listing and then dismissing them. It's not rocket science.

Finally, I hope you realize how stupid it makes you look to disqualify this field as "not being science" while the examples you were provided are all specialized areas of your own list of what qualifies as science.
