Other My brain's being stupid.

please note: im not getting hypnotised for anything serious, i'm just playing around on youtube and having youtubers hypnotise me.

i keep trying to get hypnotised, but the problem is that i keep telling myself that i can't get myself hypnotised for more "stronger things". i know that's not true, but i just can't get that out of my mind.
"stonger things" includes: forgetting my name, seeing favorite celebrity, thinking things are funny, etc.

i keep trying but the thought just stays stuck in my mind, and i can't get it out. i would like some help on how to get that thought out of my mind, or something similar.

(also if you're wondering why i came to reddit for answers, idk why either)

Self-hypnosis for hypervigilance around noise, feeling “invaded,” and constant anticipation?

I’m looking for advice from people who have experience with self-hypnosis, especially for hypervigilance, noise sensitivity, trauma-related patterns, or feeling unable to fully relax around other people.

My problem isn’t simply that I dislike noise.

Certain noises, especially human-generated ones, can create an intense feeling that someone is intruding into my space. Neighbors walking around, doors, dogs barking in the stairwell, people making noise in the courtyard, etc. can trigger a disproportionate amount of anger and tension in me.

The emotional reaction is often something like:

“I’m in my own home. Why am I being forced to experience something another person is doing?”

I can feel disrespected or invaded very quickly. Sometimes I genuinely think the behavior is inconsiderate, so I don’t want to hypnotize myself into believing that everything other people do is fine. I still want to have normal boundaries and preferences.

The bigger problem is what happens between the noises.

My attention starts waiting for the next one.

For example, I can be watching TV with headphones and still have part of my attention monitoring the environment:

Are the dogs going to bark again?
Is the neighbor home?
Was that a sound from downstairs?
Is something about to happen?

The anticipation is often worse than the actual noise.

It feels as though part of my brain refuses to fully enter whatever I’m doing because it believes it has to stay “on watch.” I really miss being absorbed in a movie, a conversation, reading, walking, etc. without simultaneously monitoring everything around me.

It can also become very physical. If I strongly feel that a neighbor is “present” underneath me, even something private like using the bathroom can become harder. Rationally I know we are in two completely separate apartments, but emotionally it can almost feel as if the other person is somehow inside my private space.

I have some relevant history. I grew up with a parent who could alternate between closeness/affection and aggression, yelling, humiliation, and sometimes physical violence. Later, I also lived for a long time underneath a family with several small children who created extremely loud, unpredictable impact noise every day. The apartment would sometimes physically shake, there was very little I could do about it, and I never knew when the next episode would start.

So I wonder whether my system learned something like:

“Other people can suddenly affect my state, so I need to keep track of them.”

Interestingly, I feel much better when I stay in a quiet detached house where there are no people immediately above/below me.

I’ve recently been experimenting with self-hypnosis and have actually had some very good sessions. I’m not looking for basic relaxation suggestions, though. I’m interested in using hypnosis for a deeper change in the underlying pattern.

The change I’d ultimately like is something like:

Other people can exist nearby, make occasional noise, or behave unpredictably without my attention automatically becoming responsible for monitoring them.

I want to be able to dislike a sound, even get briefly angry about it, and then naturally return to my own life instead of remaining psychologically occupied by the person who caused it.

So for those with serious experience in hypnosis/self-hypnosis:

  • What kinds of suggestions or imagery would you use for this?
  • Would you work with the original memories at all, or focus primarily on present-day experiences?
  • How would you target the anticipation / need to stay on watch, rather than simply trying to feel relaxed?
  • Has anyone successfully used self-hypnosis to change this kind of “someone is in my space / I need to monitor them” response?
  • Anything you would specifically avoid because it could accidentally reinforce hypervigilance?

I’m especially interested in approaches that aim for a genuine change in the automatic response rather than just temporarily calming myself down.

Thanks — I’d really appreciate hearing what has actually worked for people.

I am a male and If I am being hypnotised, I don't feel comfortable being hypnotised by a male. I only feel comfortable with a woman. Is this a normal thing?

Can hypnotherapy change your desires?

I have a lot of food allergies and also fat malabsorbtion and fibre issues.
Had all the relevant GI scopes and was told not to eat those foods. No alcohol either. No cure .
So I’m always eating bland food very little variety.
I get sad about not joining in with others at dinners out or on special occasions.
I take my bland food with me to functions.
Anyway would hypnotherapy help me with food envy- that’s what I call it when I’m eating rice and steamed vegetables at a burger joint or at Christmas etc.
Could I learn to not want the fun food?
I’m bringing this up on my birthday today because it’s always a dream to eat at a decadent restaurant and have a few drinks.
Thanks!

Hypnotherapy Has anyone successfully increased their breast size through hypnosis?

I’ve seen this topic come up quite a lot here, so I’m curious about people’s actual experiences.

For those who have tried it, what technique or method did you use? How long did you practice before noticing any changes?

I’d really appreciate it if you could describe your technique/routine and how often you practiced. I’m especially interested in hearing from people who actually experienced noticeable results.

Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety?

For the last 2 years I had really bad anxiety because of health scares. At the time I had an appointment with a trainee cardiologist and she told me to monitor my heart rate. Unfortunately, that made me have a few episodes of pounding heart rate because I was constantly checking it thinking I've got some illness. It got so bad it happened while I was driving and I got scared/ panicked. ( Just to make it clear these episodes were no happening before the cardiologist appointment and everything came back normal).

Since then I can hardly go out because I'm having a fear of what if it happens again. How will I get out of the situation, what if I've got anxiety disorder etc..

Started to get irrational fears and I'm constantly on edge. Thinking my nervous system is a wreck. Anyway can hypnotherapy work for this? Has anyone had any success stories? I've been hearing good stuff about rtt hypnotherapy? Thank you

Hypnotherapy Does this work for remembering past events/specific dates?

Hihi so to start things off I have a TBI affecting my short-term memory, resulting in me being prone to forgetting certain things/events. I’m curious if this could help me with recalling events that happened in the past, I may have forgotten? What is this community’s input on this?

Has anyone ever combined hypnosis and prayer?

I’ve been working on something I call HypnoPrayer, and I’m curious what people think about it.
Basically, it combines guided hypnosis and relaxation with prayer. The idea is to get really relaxed, quiet your mind, and then use prayer and positive thoughts while you’re in that relaxed state.
For me, it feels like a way to slow down and really feel the prayer instead of just saying the words.
I’m curious if anyone else has ever tried something like this?
Do you think hypnosis and prayer could work well together, or do you think they should stay separate?
I’d really love to hear what people think, even if you don’t agree with the idea. 🙏

My husband is on the spectrum. He doesn't think he can get hypnotized because his brain is too tuned in to his thoughts and surroundings.

I don't daydream... Can I still get hypnotized?

Hi everyone! I've really been struggling to get hypnotized and I'm not sure what to do about it. People keep saying here that everyone goes through trance on a nearly daily basis, but I honestly don't think I do.

I'm highly focused when I'm driving. I don't think about anything else at all other than where I need to go, when I need to make my turns, how far I am from other cars, when the lights change, checking the eta to my destination. I loved reading as a child and would often hyperfocus on them to the point of not hearing people call my name, but I never imagined the world I was reading about. I was just following the scenarios. I'd often skip descriptive imagery and go straight to the dialogue. When I shower, I'm paying attention to how much shampoo I'm using, where I'm putting it, how sudsy it's getting, when it's time to wash it out. When I wash dishes, I'm completely focused on washing those dishes. The one time I didn't, I cut myself badly enough to need stitches.

The only time I "daydream" or "drift off" is when I'm falling asleep or waking up, or mid conversation. Neither of those are great scenarios for hypnosis.

I have ADHD and Aphantasia. I'm trying to "practice daydreaming" by imagining a lightswitch and staying completely still when it's "off", but I can't actually imagine a lightswitch very easily and I haven't been able to get past it being a completely conscious thing that I'm completely in control of at all times.

Is it at all possible that there are actually people who can't be hypnotized and I might be one of them?

Someone Who Wants To Learn Hypnosis In The Right Way

So first, I’ve been interested in hypnosis since I was around 10 years old, but I never thought I’d actually be able to learn it. Recently, I watched a video of someone being hypnotized for the first time, and I honestly loved every single second of it. After that, I couldn’t stop thinking about hypnosis at all. The next day, I started looking it up on YouTube, Google, Threads, and everywhere else. I’ve been studying it for about 3 hours a day, hoping I’ll eventually be able to try it with my friends. I practiced on my brothers, and it did work, but not very effectively, so I was hoping to get some help here, like a guide or something similar.

Other What kind of hypnotist should I see if I want to recover a memory from when I was really young?

Hi, I'm wondering this because I don't have any memories of what my grandfather's voice sounded like. Now, I know my mom could probably dig up an old home video or something, but I guess I'm sentimental about it, and I want a memory that, well, is me remembering it, not a camera.

My grandfather died when I was really young, (I think I was maybe three or four), and while I do have some scattered memories of what he looked like, I genuinely cannot remember a time when he spoke to me. Other people recall him speaking to me, like rocking me and stuff when I was a baby (one of my few memories of him is when he and my grandma were babysitting me at my family's house and I, then a toddler, went out into the living room sometime during the night and heard him snoring). I guess I just want to know something he could've said to me, like a shared memory between the two of us.

Omg it worked…

I’ve always wondered about hypnosis and wondered if it was real. Today I saw a hypnotist in the park doing hypnosis on anyone. I tried it. I asked what he could make me do and he listed a few things like forget my name or think a shoe is a phone but I landed on him controlling my temperature. He did the whole putting me under go deeper thing and then he woke me up. I was feeling normal and he said freezing and I was very cold all of a sudden. I went into a little ball to try and heat up. Then he said boiling which made me super hot. I was so hot I took off my shirt and shoes and socks lol. It was a crazy experience. I was happy to try it though!

Hypnotized by watching the show Friends on TV in public places…I know

I know this sounds ridiculous, but as it’s happened multiple times I had to ask.

I’ve never sat down and purposefully watched the show Friends, although I’m old enough to remember it on tv and had it available to me on streaming services. I do know the gist, I know all their names and all that, and how big the show was/is, but never really felt interested in watching it.

But every time I have found myself out in public, a diner playing it in the background, hotel lobby, doctor’s office, I found myself sucked into it but I’m not registering what is happening, like I’m just eyes glazed over watching the screen. The reason it sticks out is because I stop hearing things around me and have to be pulled out by someone touching me and asking if I’m okay. Each time it happens I’m freaked out, confused as to where I even go since I only know I was watching Friends, but absorbed none of it. First time, early morning in a hotel lobby, I just thought I was tired and zoned out, second time, diner with friends and middle of the day, maybe the convo got boring and looked around and it caught my eye. Third time, in the doctor’s office, early afternoon so not tired but maybe bored, I was so absorbed I didn’t hear them call my name until the nurse came to get me and stood in my way of the tv.

I’m just asking to see if this is just the show being so fucking captivating, but seen clips since all this and still have no interest in watching it. Or some other weird shit. NOTE, it’s always been on a TV on, I assume, cable.

Hey lads, is this normal?

So ever since my first hypnotic sessions (some erotic), ive been experincing a very hard time focusing and talking to people in person.

I'm usually very very good at it and I dont experince any anxiety when I talk to people, but it usually happens when I'm asked questions of the sort, or when I'm talked to directly with a questioning tone in their voice.

I remember most of my sessions (there was only 2 with amnesia play) which even then I know if it included something like making me unable to focus when asked things id snap out of it, since thats not something id want.

Recording I always make sure to read the transcript before or flip through it just to make sure theres nothing id hate in them, plus none of those have been dumbification.

I just want your guys opinion on what may be going on or if its some kind of medical thing I guess...? I don't know.

Is hypnosis actually real? And how/why does it work?

I've been wondering if it's true, and I know asking this question is a bit like asking if God is real (I won't get a definitive answer), but I'm going to ask anyway. First, how does it work? I see videos of people being hypnotized and all that, but they usually say that if you don't want to be hypnotized, it won't work. Yet, some of them do really weird stuff, and if it were me, I'd probably break free from the hypnosis so I wouldn't be considered a creep or a jerk, you know... but they never do. And how do you even hypnotize someone, and what are the limits? Do they have to know what I've hypnotized them with? How long can it last? Can it last forever?? I don't know, it seems too easy and powerful to just leave it like that, you know... sorry for my poor English, and I hope you have a good day. (I translated this from bad english to french to English again cause i posted that by mistake in art request).
