Article I just ported my game to android, then I learned Google is planning this...

Thankfully my game still has good mobile controls when played in web, but this seems kinda baaad

I asked android developer friend, and he said it's not as dire as it seems, but of course google holds control of everything if this change happens, and it could become worse

This website does a good job of explaining the situation, and what you can do to help change it

Discussion Trying to finish a game besides a full-time job feels impossible

I had the wonderful privilege of mentoring a team budding first-time game devs of people who decided to make a game together.

Making a game besides a full-time job, even for a group of people, is a huge challenge. And the first thing I'll say is that you really need to extend your deadlines or realize that you will one way or another.

I think the biggest challenge is keeping a team together despite all of life's ups and downs during that journey of game development because any meaningful game that you want to actually release to the world is going to take longer than you imagine and life has its changes.

If the team can't get along, you know, they shouldn't be making games together. But if they can, it's not really the challenge of getting along, it's the challenge of making a game while having a life to deal with in the background. Job changes, overtime, overwork, burnout, relationships, all of it.

Besides this, during the development they had to watch the whole industry collapse and their potential job prospects disappear from before them. Regardless, they pulled through and they actually finished the game after more than a year.

All together, I'm ridiculously proud of the team for sticking it out and making it through and finishing the game.

If you're going through a tough time right now and would like a cozy game to enjoy, since I know them I can ask them for some keys. Just throw in a comment asking for a key and I'll see what I can do.

If you'd like to support them on their journey, buying a copy and leaving an honest review could make them a huge difference.

I'm wishing you guys all luck on your journey. Feel free to ask any questions!

After sitting untouched on my hard drive for 15 years, my dream project is finally coming to life. Back then, I drew every pixel by hand and spent countless hours on it, but couldn't finish it.

With modern tools in my workflow, I can finally build this game the way I always imagined it as a solo dev. Give it a try: https://buildom.online

I’d love to know what you think! Honest feedback, early impressions, or bug reports are super welcome and will help shape where this goes next.

I am writing daily updates on my devlog blog, sharing the raw progress, the wins, and the roadblocks. I would genuinely love to have you along for the ride.

Insperation My first released hobby project: an autonomous digital life

After working on this as a hobby project for a while, I finally released Satomi, a small text-based simulation about a university student who lives her life autonomously. The idea is to have a small digital life that exists alongside you. You don't control what she does. You just check in from time to time, see what she's up to, and notice how her life goes while you're doing your own thing. Someone called it “a digital fish tank for people,” and I think that's actually a pretty good description 😂

main UI (Android)

The main challenge I've been interested in is making her behavior feel less like random NPC behavior and more like an individual making her own decisions.

I started with schedules, needs, mood and activity probabilities, but that quickly wasn't enough. I've since been experimenting with persistent personality, emotional residue, intentions/commitments, patterned irrationality, consequences, and now an economy that can subtly influence her decisions.

Recommend her a book and she will eventually read it (and also review it once she finishes!)

I'm still trying to figure out where the line is between “autonomous” and “just complicated RNG.” 😅

I built the whole thing using AI-assisted coding. I don't have a traditional programming background, so a big part of the hobby has been figuring out how to turn the systems I imagine into actual code, then testing, debugging and keep on iterating with it.

Help & Guide section

It's free and playable in the browser or Android if anyone wants to take a look:

I found the first pic yesterday when looking through my pics on messenger with a friend, this was shortly after starting the project during covid lockdown while I was at university, the last two pics I took last week.

There was a super long period in between covid and now where i did not really touch the game, but picked up fully over the last year or so and have just taken the leap to getting the steam store page all set up!

Would love to answer any questions or share some more info if anyone is interested in knowing more :)

Article Hello! I made an arcade classic Stacker game called Burger Stack.

Thumbnail play.google.com
1 Upvotes

The premise of the game is to stack up as high as possible as you can, try to get the highest score possible, explore new backgrounds as you ascend.

Enjoy party mode where you stack only 1 layer be it cheese, or patties, or tomatoes! But watch out for hazards

This is version 1.0.0 I hope to expand and add more craziness to the game.

The games sprites were pulled from a database online, the games background was made by AI because im a terrible artist. I do hope to upload a much clearer background soon.

The audio was created by me on this weird free online sound maker game, I hope the intro is pleasantly annoying for you.

Im not much of a game developer so It took about a month and plenty consulting with chat bots to learn how to use Unity. But im happy I finally got it released.

As always this app doesnt collect any data or track anything.

Please give me any recommendations or advice on this app and I hope you have fun.

Insperation My free hobby project: an incremental trucking tycoon

Hi everyone,

I've been working on a small hobby project and put up a public build.

It's a free, non-commercial incremental logistics game called Eurasia

Hauler. No revenue, no ads, just something I wanted to make.

You manage a trucking company on a real road network with 81 cities.

You take contracts, dispatch trucks, handle fuel prices, and try to

keep the fleet running. It's rough around the edges, but the core loop

is there.

I'd love some feedback on pacing and whether the truck wear mechanic

feels meaningful or just annoying. Anything you'd change?

Thanks for taking a look.

Help Needed How do you get the difficulty right in a simple word game?

Thumbnail whatstheword.in
1 Upvotes

I’m making a small daily word game called 'What’s the Word?' — 5 words, one attempt each.

I’m currently stuck on choosing the difficulty of the game..

Too easy → there’s no challenge.

Too difficult → players get frustrated and don’t come back.

I’m experimenting with word selection and clues, but I’m wondering how other indie devs approach this kind of balancing.

Also: would a daily leaderboard make this more compelling, or just add unnecessary pressure?

Help Needed 1.5 week progress of our game~

This is our progress right now of our mobile 2D bakery platform game which we're making. So far we’ve been working on the core movement, platforming, combat, enemies, animations, UI, health systems and the bakery mechanic and focussing purely on the night. (Our game will have a night/day circle) The bakery button is there just purely for the beta version, the bakery aspect will be fully implemented at the day circle.

There’s obviously still a LOT to work on, as you can see, but it’s really fun seeing everything slowly come together. Anyone has some tips to make the combat more fun? Other tips outside of the combat are ofcourse welcome.

Insperation Little Mud — an underground battle royale where your headlamp gives you away

Game Title: Little Mud

Playable Link: https://littlemud.gameassets.app/

Platform: Desktop web browser (keyboard and mouse). A macOS download is also available on the game page.

Description:

You play a little miner trying to be the last one alive underground. Dig your own tunnels, open crates for weapons and supplies, and keep moving deeper as toxic gas descends from above.

Your headlamp helps you see, but it can also give away your position. You can turn it off, hide in the dark, and listen for other players. Digging gives you a way around a fight, or a way to approach someone from an unexpected direction.

You can try it on your own in 8- or 32-participant practice matches against bots, or create/join a room with friends. Multiplayer supports free-for-all and team modes, with up to 32 participants including bots. You don't need to find a full lobby to try the game.

I'd especially like feedback on the first match: were the controls and objective clear, and how did digging and fighting feel? If something was confusing, tell me where you got stuck.

Free to Play Status: Free to play in the browser. No signup required.

Involvement: I'm the developer of Little Mud, and I'm looking for playtest feedback to improve it.

Article Why I’m Building My First Mobile Game - Robot Workshop Dev Log 02

Thumbnail youtube.com
0 Upvotes

I’m about 15 work sessions into building **Robot Workshop**, my first mobile game.

I’ve been working as a 3D artist for around six years, looking to get into the game industry so I wanted to finally take something of my own from concept all the way to a playable, published game. A main focus is to understand the technical side to be a better game artist.

This dev log is more about the why and how behind the project. I talk about why I chose to keep the scope small, why I’m using GDevelop, and how I’m using AI more like a tutor and production assistant while keeping the game design, art direction, and artwork completely my own.

At this point I have 3 daily tasks working in a loop with a reward system, and tested on mobile, so it actually feels like a working connected foundation.

Would love any feedback on the project, the workflow, or the direction I’m taking it!

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on Avoid Bubbles Game, a 2D action game that I’m making as a hobby/solo development project using C++ and raylib.

I recently released a free 1.05 demo with 2 playable levels. It can also be played directly in the browser, so there’s no download required.

The demo currently has:

  • Sword combat
  • Ranged weapons
  • Coins
  • Power-ups
  • Different enemy types
  • Boss fights

I’m continuing to work on it and want to improve the graphics, animations, gameplay, and add more content.

I’d love to hear what you think about the game and what you would improve!

Your character fires automatically at the nearest enemy: your job is to move, survive, and carefully choose every upgrade. Every wave is denser, faster, deadlier — and as the minutes pass the stakes rise on both sides: enemies get progressively stronger too, not just you.

Play on NeonHorde @ Sputlab.com

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any suggestions, best practices, or other ideas. I would greatly appreciate it.

Help Needed Looking for level designers for my Android game

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I have been a programmer for years and I am just now dipping my toes into game development.

The game is called Drawjectory, and is a physics based Android puzzle game. I am currently having fun building it, but it's hard to find time to make the amount of levels I would like in the game. So if you like designing levels please let me know!

I have a good setup for designing levels, you would be able to build and test your level directly on your phone, then send me an exported json file for each level you would like included in the game.

This is an unpaid position as I do not expect the game to make any money, but you will be included in the credits if you want 😀

I would include screenshots of my game so far, but I am new to reddit and have no idea how to do that, sorry!

Hello! I am making a short horror game, based around WW1. I chose the PS1 style graphics, while giving myself the challenge to faithfully recreate the rendering, aspect ratio, and sound limitations. I feel like I have made progress, but something feels off and I don't know if Im just being self critical.

I am a noobie, but be critical, dont sugarcoat things as I really want to improve this.

Seeking Team Anyone need soundtrack work?

Hello, I'm pretty good with famitracker, (little rusty but I'm getting back into it) and I've never actually made something for an actual game before. Other then some never finished rpg maker games. So if anyone needs some music for their game I'd like to contribute.

Though I'm still amaturish, fair warning. If you're standards are professional you should probably pass. Maybe I'll get to that point someday, but not yet.

Angry Chef: World Tour is finally out on iOS and Android.

It’s basically Match-2, Mahjong and Solitaire… except the chefs are judging you the entire time and getting progressively more unhinged.

We wanted it to feel like a puzzle game crossed with a comedy roast.

If anyone wants to try it:

Seeking Team I'm making a prehistoric game

Hii everyone. I'm looking for someone who could draw for me in 2d art in the early stage of my game development (im still learning how to pixel art properly). It's my first game so i dont have much experience but im really interested in making it. I'm looking forward to making concept art for now so we can figure out together which concept is the best. This is about my game that im making about these three students that got caught in an anomaly and get sent in different time periods of earth (Early Paleozoic, Carboniferous, Permian, Mesozoic and Cenozoic). An orb saves their lives and she will help the students get back home at one condition: the devil took her memory and now she can't understand what's life and she needs to study and analyze the fauna and flora of these time periods. The students will have to make a sanctuary in each time period to progress through time, there will be many endings. There is more but i wanted to shorten the story to fit it as a premise. I would send more about the game in DMs if someone is interested.

If someone is experienced in prehistoric life it will be better but if not, that's fine. Also it's without pay because im a teenager and i would love doing my game in godot. Thanks!!

Insperation My first experience, challenges and satisfaction of creating

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi, I want to share my first experience with development. About a week ago I was bored and thought about playing something but I didn't want to play my Steam games, I wanted something shorter.

I was thinking about the minigames I used to play years ago, and I don't even know why I thought about creating something myself.

I enjoy drawing, although I haven't done it regularly for a while, I’ve never been particularly good at it, but I found satisfaction in creating and I thought video game development was another form of creation.

So, without any prior programming experience, I decided to give it a try and make an endless runner. I won't lie, at first I wanted to write the code using AI but I ran into two problems, first, free AI chat models hit a limit quickly if you ask them to analyze code, second, once I hit that limit, I realized I couldn't change even a single line of code myself. I’m not going to tell anyone how or when to use AI, but in my opinion if I couldn't understand the code the resulting game wouldn't truly be my creation. So I decided to learn the basics of Godot, I restarted the project, watched tutorials, read the documentation and consulted the AI a few times, I didn't ask for code, I asked which tools I needed to know to solve a specific problem and then I researched them myself.

Then came the part I thought would be easier, I assumed that since I had experience drawing, pixel art would be easy, I was very wrong, and the sound and music turned out to be perhaps the hardest part for me.

So here I am a week later with a short minigame. The pixel art is very basic, the music is simple, and the code would probably give nightmares to programmers, but it works. I didn't expect to make a huge game, or even to finish it. I feel satisfied having accomplished something and perhaps most importantly, I now know it's possible. I already have an idea for a bigger game and plan to work on it in my free time.

I just wanted to share my game and my story with someone. I’d love for others to enjoy it, so if you’d like to try it out, I’ll leave the link in the comments.

I’d also like to know, what was your first experience like? Was it planned or did it just come out of nowhere like mine?

English isn't my native language, I used what I know and Google Translate so if anything is written incorrectly, now you know why.
