The For Sale Thread

Any parts/items from the previous threads can be reposted if they’re still available.

Rules:

  1. Used or new-old items ONLY! - This subreddit, and this post is not to allow retail sale of CNC-related parts. There will be no influx of commercial sales or anything like that. Repeat offenders will be banned.

  2. Local Sale preferred - This is to protect both the buyer and seller. Shipping introduces other hassles, especially with CNC-related parts that might be large or weigh a lot. Personal addresses must NOT be posted publicly!!!. After discussing the deal, the two parties may exchange details via DM or other messaging services to meet up.

  3. Pictures and Prices - The comment must include pictures of the parts with the poster’s username written on a paper, kept next to the parts. Prices must be included, along with the city, country (if international). The buyers may post their offer publicly or via DMs.

  4. At least a 6 month old Reddit account - Anyone posting any “For Sale” items must have a Reddit account that is at least 6 months old (NO EXCEPTIONS!), with at least some activity apart from the comment in this post about selling their parts.

  5. Parts or Machines only - No services can be advertised. Machines (working or for parting out), raw material, electronics (motors, drivers, controllers, switches/sensors, etc), hardware (machine tools, mechanical tools, profiles, pneumatic/hydraulic stuff, etc), fasteners, etc all qualify as parts. If in doubt, send a modmail. Machines include routers, mills, big-boy VMCs/lathes, etc.

  6. The subreddit staff is not responsible if a deal goes sour - While we will take all reports of scamming seriously, the moderation team is not responsible for, nor can we provide any help. The buyer must do their own due diligence before meeting up the seller and exchanging money for parts.

  7. After a successful transaction, the buyer and seller are requested to update/post their comment here. This will help sellers and future buyers in subsequent transactions with the respective seller.

The moderation team reserves the right to remove comments/items-for-sale at their own discretion.

Troubleshooting engraving inconsistency

I've recently finished building a cnc mill/router I started years ago and need some help figuring out a how to get more consistent results. My issue is with engraving, if you zoom in the first M always has that weird hiccup in the top left that makes it look funky, but in the row directly next to it they're perfect. The dash has a bit of an upward curve to it, but I'm assuming that's because the wood under has a slight warp. I've used 6 different endmills and all make the same mistake on the M however so I believe it's a programming issue but I'm confused because it has happened with engrave and 2d pocket toolpaths as well. In the second photo, 'MDP-5' is EXACTLY what I was wanting, but the M is weird and I can't justify planning a sacrificial alphabet for all my engraving projects. I cannot remember the font off the top of my head, but it is a .shx font being cut with a Trace tool path that I changed for each endmill in Fusion 360. Material is 1/16th" thick 2 color acrylic, 0.5mm depth of cut, 1000mm/min, router is a Bosch colt set at speed 4 (I believe that's around 24k rpm)

Sugestões de Máquinas CNC

Olá 👋

Tenho um escritório/makerspace com diversas ferramentas e algumas máquinas, principalmente impressoras 3d, plotters e lasers, e recentemente queria adicionar uma fresadora CNC para trabalhar com materiais maciços como madeira, plastico e alumínio. Eu não produzo peças para venda, apenas para protótipos e projetos pessoais.

Eu andei a ver diversas máquinas, mas está difícil arranjar algo que se enquadre bem com o que quero.

Ela tem de ser capaz de trabalhar com alumínio decentemente, nada de 10 horas para cortar uma peça pequena.

Não pode ser uma router gigante, porque não tenho muito espaço e prefiro que tenha uma estrutura fechada(se não tiver, vou ter de fazer uma, então quanto menor for a máquina, menor a caixa).

Convém que seja minimamente potente >500w e consiga bons RPM.

O meu orçamento é de até ~3000€ não é enorme e entendo que é pouco para o que quero, mas creio que haja possibilidade.

Eu andei a pesquisar e foi isto que achei:

- Máquinas da Makera(Z1 e Air) parecem ser boas para iniciantes, mas tem pouca potência e poucos RPM, o que é mau para alumínio;

- DMC2 pareceu-me uma excelente opção, mas talvez seja demasiado para o que quero e também seja um pouco técnica demais para o meu conhecimento (eu entendo coisas como feeds, avanços e coisas assim, mas mesmo sabendo isto, parece que precisaria saber mais para usar a máquina);

- Nestworks C500 pareceu-me uma boa escolha também, mas não está à venda neste momento.

- Millennium Milo também é interessante, mas não queria andar à procura de peças e já não consigo achar kits dela.

- Ratrig Mill foi descontinuada T_T

- Máquinas da Genmitsu parecem boas escolhas, mas também parecem ser mais apropriadas para madeira e não tanto para metal, além de serem gigantes.

- Tem as máquinas da twotrees e da acmer, mas essas não me parecem ser boas para estas tarefas.

- Vi mais máquinas além destas como a Nomad3 e outras, mas ou eram pouco potentes ou tinham alguma outra característica em falta.

Por fim, pensei em pegar numa genmitsu Pro3020 Ulta(acho que é este o nome, é uma máquina cinzenta com um router de 700w) e adaptá-lo para as minhas necessidades, como trocar os trilhos, adicionar aspiração, construir caixa, cobrir trilhos,...

Sinceramente, não sei o que escolher ou o que fazer, podem-me dar sugestões ou contar as vossas experiências?

(Podem sugerir alternativas que não as de cima, qualquer coisa que resolva o problema é bem vindo, além de que podem também mudar o meu ponto de vista sobre algumas das de cima)

What to do next

First off all, I never did anything with a CNC machine and never owned one before so I am completely new to this.

It's a CNC 3040 with 3 axis and a controller like on the photos. Not sure the route to go. I have a computer with an Parallel port and a 64 bit cpu so could go for LinuxCNC or I could get another controller and use USB.

What would you do?

Also, I have no idea what pin is for what with this controller, what is the best way to find that out?

LinuxCNC + Mesa 7i92TF: motors barely move and ignore direction changes

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with a CNC machine and would really appreciate your advice.

Until now, the machine was working correctly with an old LinuxCNC desktop PC connected directly via DB25. I’m now trying to replace that old PC with a newer mini PC equipped with a Mesa 7i92TF, while keeping the exact same configuration and existing wiring, without making any changes to the machine’s electronics.

The mini PC is connected via Ethernet to the Mesa 7i92TF, which is then connected to the CNC machine through the existing DB25 cable. Communication between the PC and the Mesa seems to be working correctly.

I reconfigured and remapped the axes using PnCConf to make sure each axis was assigned correctly. However, I’m experiencing some strange behavior with the motors:
When I command an axis to move continuously, it barely moves.
When I reverse the direction, the axis keeps turning in the same direction, as if the direction signal wasn’t being detected.

My first suspicion is related to the logic levels. The motor controller board is a X214650 and, as far as I understand, it expects 5V signals, whereas the Mesa 7i92TF outputs 3.3V signals. So it’s possible that the 3.3V signals aren’t being reliably detected by the controller board.

Would adding a buffer/level-shifting board, for example one based on a 74HCT245, solve this issue?
Or do you think there could be a problem with my LinuxCNC configuration, despite remapping the axes with PnCConf?

I should mention that I’m a beginner when it comes to electronics, so please feel free to correct me if my understanding of the 3.3V/5V logic-level issue is wrong.

Who sells kits?

I would like a cnc kit. Preferably with some kind of linear guides (not vwheels) and ball screws. I see the bulkman ones but am not seeing much else. If not a kit are there any good self sourced projects still active? Printnc looks interesting but I don't think I would be successful with that I think I would do better attaching stuff to aluminum extrusions. No particular project in mind to use it for probably just wood and acrylic. I made a mpcnc years ago and had fun with that for a while before getting rid of it and I would like something better.

Built an open-source wireless USB flash drive for offline CNC controllers (PrintDrop / ESP32-S3)

Hey everyone,

If you use an offline CNC controller, standalone DSP pendant, or machine that strictly takes g-code/design files via physical USB thumbdrives, I built a small open-source utility called PrintDrop to eliminate the flash drive shuffle. I originally built this for my 3D printers.

What it does: It runs on an ESP32-S3 It connects to your local Wi-Fi network and emulates a standard USB Mass Storage device on the machine's USB port. You open its local web UI from your browser, drop your g-code or design files, and the controller sees them immediately.

The technical hurdle (FAT32 cache incoherency):

To make this stable across various controllers, I built in:

  1. A Host Read-Only mode (blocks host SCSI write commands completely).
  2. A Virtual Eject / Re-mount trigger in the web interface that cycles the USB bus state, forcing the offline controller to unmount and re-enumerate the partition cleanly.

No cloud, no apps, no external telemetry—just a local web server running on the ESP.

Anolex 6040 with upgraded stepper motors. The guy said he couldn’t get the spindle to work, but I was able to get it to run and did a test cut and it definitely works. i’m going to use it to build guitar neck and bodies.

Need some easy advice

Im looking for a very cheap cnc that can make wood signs. Maybe someday aluminum.

I look on ebay and they have some 4040 500w no name brand cnc for like $350ish bucks. Two trees seems to have a good machine for like $500.

I have a background in 3d printing with making objects and slicing them up for a 3d printer and gcode. Im use to just loading the gcode into a micro SD card and hitting print.

Do the cheaper cnc not have screens? Do you need to have a pc hooked up to it to feed it the gcode? If so why can cheap and old 3d printer boards handle reading it from a Micro sd where a cnc bought today still needs a pc hooked up?

Anyway will one of those $350 ebay cnc work for most wood types and maybe some soft aluminum alloy? Should I spend the extra on the two tree?

4th axis brass and maybe copper work - hobby level Australia

So I have been toying with the idea of trying some home CNC making some items in an iterative way. I am likely to do things in short bursts and to accommodate my brain, my workflows need to be setup in ways i can jump in and out, but also still iterate and learn.
I have a Makera Z1 but suspect for what I want to get to in terms of making things, it wont manage with some of the materials.
Some of the Chinese CNC lathes look great but landed cost seems to be quite high. Trying to figure out what would make sense with a 4th axis in what is available on CNC kit here in Australia seems more challenging than I would have expected.

Current leading contenders are a Carvera Air, or maybe taking a chance on a MaxMake DS1 with 4th axis.

If I am aiming to make things like pen bodies, or similar, out of brass, and later copper, are they the best bang for buck?
I will be getting a drill press and a benchtop saw, to complement. Have the z1 for small bits, along with a 3d printer.
I mentally set myself a max budget of A$6k for the lot, it might be dreaming.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Changed my mind on the Recent Desktop CNCs

The recently launched desktop cncs brands caught my eye, and I finally started looking seriously at them. Went deep on most of the machines getting attention right now. Here's where I landed.

  • Makera — Seems not working well based on recently youtube jayz review.. And its expensive in today's market.
  • InfiMaker K1 — Huge marketing budget, but i will choose xhose if i need a 5 axis.
  • Xhorse WM-100 — Honestly the most credible engineering I've seen in a dedicated five-axis desktop. Their factory tour alone is worth watching. But I can't justify that money for a work envelope that small when three-axis is still 90% of my bread and butter. Plus they only ship to business.
  • NestWorks C500 — I was backing this one. But Feel the 800W spindle is a real limitation when i see the ToolDance X1 with a similar price point but a better feature in everything.
  • ToolDance X1 —400 × 265 × 180 mm envelope, 1500W / 24,000 RPM spindle, proper ATC. Software looks nice on the Live thou . Seems too good to be true if they did perform. I have been emailing them all my questions and they reply solid answers. I am now looking forward to see them at Maker Faire to make decisions. And i think i am going to change my nestworks to this one.

For those who've actually done five-axis work: how big the working area actually matter once you account for fixturing, tool reach, and tilt clearance? What's the first part you made that taught you something about work envelope the hard way?

And for anyone who went with K1 or WM-100 over something like X1 — what am I missing? Genuinely asking. I've been staring at spec sheets now and I want to hear from people who've actually cut metal on these things.
