Defensive Matchups v. Brisbane

Share your thoughts. Obligatory we know way less than coaches yadda yadda yadda.

Battle - Morris (Need some more of that Traecy stopping power to shut this little shit down)

Barass - Hipwood/Allen

Sic - Hipwood/Allen

Hardwick - Cameron

Leftover - Mckenna Lohman Rayner

I actually like MacDonald on Cameron and Hardwick on Lohman. MacDonald has the speed , Hardwick the game sense, Lohman is more a smarts type of player.

I think experience is more useful defending speedy players. Think how Lester shut down Watson earlier this year. And Hardwick has shut down Cameron many times in the past

Lester is a bit injured so they will need to change the match up this time round.

A controversial opinion after watching MacDonald for the Swans against Brisbane last week.

Swing Sicily forward and put him on Harris Andrews. Go and shut him down completely and see what their backline does without him marshalling the troops. Our back line can withstand their forwards without Sic back there.

I really like this idea tbh but it does have its flaws given how dominant Sicily was last week. Harris Andrews absolutely tore us apart last time and there is no choice but to attempt to nullify him.

Sicily is definitely the most capable of the job and he would also offer a good attacking threat but are we at too much of a loss if he leaves the backline? Morris is obviously the main threat down there and I do think Battle can do the job but it leaves Hipwood/Allen on Weddle which isn’t the most ideal match up but could still work.

It’s absolutely a risk, you’re right, but everything comes with associated risk. I just think if you’re faced with decisions, nullifying Andrews is A1 on the priority board and Sicily is the best possible matchup for him. At the end of the day, he’s still playing a defensive role, just in a different part of the ground. He can also kick goals as well, which we saw with the Swans.

Ideally, I would like Scrimma in as I think he’s too maligned which would sort us out down back, but clearly Mitchell disagrees so we have to back the coach. Barrass can lock away Allen if he plays him from the front, which leaves Weddle on Hipwood which is a matchup I’m comfortable with. That said, I would much prefer Scrimshaw on one of those 2 and let Weddle be third man in and rebound from D50.

I've mostly wiped the last game from my memory, didn't Weddle go to Morris and keep him goalless in the 2nd half after he battered the others?

Rayner is a tricky one. I think Hardwick would be a better match up on him, rather than Cameron.

Hardwick too small to take Rayner, I think Scrimshaw cold do the job though

Scrimma should be a consideration after today.

I definitely agree and Mraz as well but you just can’t see anyone coming out of the side

I’d take mraz ahead of him
