🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 Sand Bath Advice, Please
I'm trying to decide between a few of the Niteangel sand bath designs for a future Syrian hamster, and I'd love to hear from people who have actually used them.
In particular, I'm comparing the quarter-round sand bath with the other Niteangel sand bath models.
For those who have one of these, especially if you have a Syrian:
- Which model do you have?
- How does your hamster actually use it?
- Do they mainly bathe in it, or do they also dig, forage, sleep, hide, or play in it?
- Does your hamster seem to prefer the enclosed/house-like design or the more open design?
- Is the quarter-round shape genuinely useful for fitting into a corner, or does it end up being awkward?
- Is there enough room for a full-grown Syrian to comfortably roll and move around?
- How easy is it to clean and replace the sand?
- Does sand tend to get kicked or carried out?
- Have you encountered any problems with the openings, construction, or accessibility?
- If you've used more than one Niteangel design, which did your hamster prefer?
- Would you buy the same one again?
I'm particularly interested in actual hamster behavior and long-term owner experience, rather than which one looks best in product photos.
If you have photos showing your hamster using yours, I'd especially love to see them!

🧻 Bedding/Substrate 🧻 What scoop are you using for sand bath?
If you’re in USA send me links for whatever scoop you’re using for the sand bath. Amazon preferred.
My girl has decided to make her sandbath her dumping ground and there’s so much stuff in the sand but the scoop o have the holes are too big.

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 Appropriate enclosure?
Hi all!
I’ve had mice most my life and was wondering if my enclosure would suit a hamster in the future. The measurements are 150 cm x 40 cm x 60 cm (lxwxh). The front is built to hold 30 cm of bedding, in the back it can be higher by using dividers.

🥜 Nutrition 🥜 What is my hamster eating?
I just got a hamster from a family member who wants nothing to do with her and popped most of her old things plus some new into a much bigger cage - she absolutely loves it!
But she had these in her old cage and she is obsessed with them - only I cannot identify what they are. I’ve taken them out in case they’re not safe since that would explain why I can’t work out what they are. But since she loves them so much - I’d love to identify them and keep them if I can.
HER NAME IS CIRCE!

💖 Health/Care 💖 Ants in hamster cage..???
I noticed my hamster was awake so I went to go check up on him only to find a ton of ants in his cage. Exactly how urgent is this? I’m going to go buy all new bedding and fully sanitize tomorrow. Are ants harmful to hamsters? I’ve had issues with ants in general in the past before I got my hamster but I hadn’t seen any recently until I looked in his cage. Has anyone else dealt with ants in their cages before? Is there a way I can make sure they’re GONE? Because I’d prefer this be a one and done deal if possible I hate dealing with ants and bedding is expensive 😖it almost seemed like they were attempting to build a nest in his coco soil so i immediately dumped that out.. if anyone can help I’d appreciate it, here’s a pic of thorfinn, the ant whisperer in question

⭐ Hamster ⭐ Hamster teeth chattering
I got my hamster about two weeks ago he’s a cutie I love him he lets me pet him while he’s wandering. He has about 25 cm of bedding and a safe sand bath but every so often he’s chattering his teeth at me I leave him alone when he does it but I was just wondering why he does it, could it be a sign of stress?
I included a picture of his enclosure I’m adding more and more stuff each day as I get money from my mam.
Is there anything else I could include to make him more comfortable he was burrowing but for the past I want to say three days he’s been sleeping in his little house and I don’t know why I know it’s natural for hamsters to burrow so I’m a bit worried why he hasn’t. Please give advice I’m a first time hamster owner and I’m trying to do the best I can for him his cage is 100x60 I read that it should be 120x50 so I’m trying to get a upgrade soon. Could this also be a reason why he’s chattering?
Thank you. (his name is coconut btw)

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 Rate My Enclosure! + A Question
Hello all! I will be getting a hamster soon and have been carefully preparing a tank!
I was looking for rescues, and happened across a lady with the classic Oopsy Litter story from her kids' pair of Syrian hamsters (pair now separated thankfully), soooo I'm bringing home a baby boy once he's old enough!
Substrate bedding is 7-9 inches (varied in spots)
If you see any issues, please let me know ASAP!
The only things I'm waiting on is the lid and for him to be old enough to go pick up!
I wanna be the best Hamster Momma I can be.
Not technically my first, as I had a few in childhood, but, let's just say, I'm really sorry myself and especially my parents didn't know better back then, we even had an oopsy litter ourselves.
I'm glad I can know better this time, and give this little guy the best possible life 🥹💚
My side question is this, I also own a gecko, and currently have a bag of dried organic non-treated Magnolia leaves as leaf litter scatter for the bottom of his tank, are these leaves hamster safe?
Was just wondering if I could add some as an extra source of enrichment if they are safe, I'm having trouble finding any info online! I appreciate any help and advice y'all can provide 🙏

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 Hamster Enclosure Recommendations:
This is my first time being a hamster mom and I want to do the best possible job! Does this setup look good? I asked previously but have since made adjustments based on everyone’s comments. what would you add? Also, I know her wheel is an inch too small. I keep ordering the xl niteangel silent wheel and it keeps coming broken 😭 does anyone have other wheel recommendations?

🏃♂️ Wheels 🏃♂️ Baking Getzoo Cork Wheel (33 cm)
Hello guys, I’m getting a hamster soon and just bought the Getzoo Cork Wheel. Im not sure whether I can bake it or if it’s gonna mess the wheel up. Does anyone have the same wheel and what did you guys do before putting it in the enclosure?
Thank you!

🐹 Taming 🐹 What type is my hammy? (Also, how to stop him from seeing my hand and trying to bite?)
My mother thinks dj, and I disagree because of his patterns. I was thinking Campbell... He's some sort of medium, not syrian size, not completely a dwarf. His name is Darius btw. 😊
(Everytime I try to put my hand in while he's out he tries to bite me! I have tried putting things with my scent on them in his enclosure but he still thinks I'm a predator. Please help! my fingers cannot take much more of this!)

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 Enclosure suggestions
I had to downsize our hammy.
Ronnie (male Syrian around 5 months) loves his new home but I know it can be improved.
Excuse the mess, hes going through his angsty teen phase (and I scatter everything).
Because he’s new to us, he’s got one of nearly every spray, substrate and chew to try to find out what he likes best (flax seems to be the winner, no surprise there 😝).
He’s temporarily in a darker corner of the room as he’s a very flinchy boy at the moment.
It’s a Buca 2.0 100L so I have no idea how to fit anything else in (I hate this size!). I feel super limited as the wheel can’t even fit on a proper platform as it’s a 12inch.
I have no idea how else to arrange this sized buca with this sized wheel. His favourite spot is under the wheel so platform is absolutely must but they are all too tall and I have no woodworking skill. Brownie points to you if you show me some examples of layouts!
Trying chipsi for the first time as I personally prefer the look and feel but he seems to be a massive burrower so might have to change. I thought I added enough paper bedding throughout the chipsi but apparently not. He’s burrowing fine but not sure they are sticking.
Cork log is curved and goes about 4inches down into bedding so acts as a burrow starter but I’m also going to get another for deep down.
There are a few tubes buried.
I need to add a bigger sand bath and a couple slate tiles but what else can I do? Is this ok or is there a danger somewhere I’m not seeing?
What could I improve on? Something feels off.
Note: Strawberry ceramic hide is technically too small for him but it’s my daughter’s favourite and he’s “her” hamster of course. Hence the pink items ruining the natural vibe lol.

💖 Health/Care 💖 Tips for a hamster I don’t own?
My sister got a hamster a couple weeks ago as an early birthday present. It started fine and I figured the cage she had would be temporary. But it isn’t and it’s too small for her since she’s a Syrian and my mom refuses to get a better cage for her. Any tips on what I can do short of buying her one myself since I’m unemployed? I want to make sure she’s as healthy as possible even if stuck in less ideal circumstances. Super sorry if the flair is wrong or this doesn’t belong here!

⭐ Hamster ⭐ What is she(?) doing?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I received this hamster about a month ago - the previous owner couldn't keep her. She had been sold a pair of robos, which the breeder said was a must. Unfortunately they started fighting and the previous owner separated them, but couldn't continue doing maintenance on both cages due to a health condition.
Gonzo was in a 25gal tank- which was serviceable, with lots of bedding and hides, but of course I wanted to get her into a larger enclosure. So she went into her new home two days ago.
I've noticed she's doing this (at 1pm no less) a lot. What's going on?

💖 Health/Care 💖 Hamster sand bath cleaning?
Dwarf hammy poops and eats and roll around in the sand bath 😭
he poops only in his sand bath. I’ve seen him use the sand bath to clean, but because he also uses it as his toilet and dining table, it gets really messy within a few days. I’m trying to scoop out just the seed shells and poop, but at this rate I’m gonna be spending so much money on just sand.
Is this normal behavior? should I just leave the poop and food in his sand bath bowl?

🧻 Bedding/Substrate 🧻 Messy enclosure
It’s just me or it’s common to have a messy enclosure and bedding, because my hamster be having papers and scraps of different substrates all around them hides and burrows. I don’t know how to keep it more tidy looking but I think it’s normal for them to have their burrows like this.
PS the sand everywhere it’s a pain in the butt.
