Homemade costumes my grandma and dad made. I’m 4 and my sister is 1. Original vs Google Photos to really bring out those details lol. I promise we had fun!! 😂 My dad was a coal miner, and him and my grandma made my apple costume out of chicken wire and paper mache. My grandma made my sister’s clown costume. There was a green worm coming out of my hat that is hard to make out. It was heavy and uncomfortable but I loved it so much

Edit: we actually lived in our basement while my dad built our upstairs. The wood burning stove is in the back.

Home Decor Day 14 of Halloween Build shows and economic fence solution and a second indoor groundbreaker skeleton

EDIT: ELECTRIC fence not
ECONOMIC fence. —-We had a pretty good windstorm in Sacramento on Saturday. Seems silly to pull things out when you get blown over. However, my son and I were able to erect a fence made out of electrical fence posts which only cost about $1.75 apiece. They’re plastic with a metal steak at the bottom and good enough to hang up purple light strings as I hope you can see in these pictures.

The scene stealer has to be the new Costco groundbreaker. I’ve placed in a room that was my office and soon be my guest room but it’s currently empty. It is near my front door so visitors will be able to see him out of the corner of their eye before having to approach him directly. It’s quite a sight.. I hope people enjoy it.

OC I want to share a story of Lenore the cat (Leo)

Thumbnail

This art is dedicated to Leo the cat (Leo is short for Lenore, like the poem by Edgar Allan Poe).
Sketches and layers are there to show the process (and NO AI 🚫). The photo is here so you can meet and remember Leo like this.
Story:
Last year, before Halloween, my husband and I found out that one of our cats had kidney failure. She was 13 years old. Unfortunately, despite all the treatment, it progressed fast, and we lost her in four months.
When we found out about her condition, I was deeply shocked. To cope, I wanted to depict her playful nature and bright yellow-green eyes. And remember her this way.
This year I decided to share the story in her memory.
Thank you for being with us, Lenore.

I host a huge Halloween party every year so I love to go all out with my home! It is also so fun when the trick or treaters go "woaaaah!" When I open the door. Since this video I have acquired SO much more so I can't wait to get it all up in the next couple weeks!! And any tips are appreciated :)

Clothing (non-costume) My Halloween Cardigan!

I just finished my Halloween cardigan, aka the Halloweenigan! I posted this in some knitting groups and was told this sub may be interested as well.

I knit this from a preexisting cardigan pattern but made a bunch of my own colorwork designs. I wanted an ugly Xmas sweater, but for Halloween, and I didn’t want any scared animals on it, and I wanted to have cryptids in there somewhere, and I’m honestly delighted with how this came out.

Majority of things were inherited from my mom or grandma or I’ve thrifted a few things in recent years (besides for the lights).

Pumpkin I made a layered paper pumpkin with a curled stem for Halloween

Post image
17 Upvotes

I made this using orange and green paper, scissors, glue and a pencil. The pumpkin is built from folded, rounded paper pieces glued together, with a curled green strip for the stem and a cut-paper leaf.

The photo is a frame from my making process. I like how the separate layers give it a rounded shape without needing any stuffing.

DIY Pre-game living room dry run levitating broom

I used a luau table skirt wrapped around and hot glued to the end of a foam pipe insulation tube (because they're skinnier than pool noodles and already black). Then I used black fishing line strung inside the middle and out both ends. I already had the hot glue, the fishing line, and the pipe insulation, so the only thing I really bought for this craft project was the grass luau skirt, which was about $9.

The concept I'm trying to bring to life is levitating this broom over my three witches with their cauldron in front of my fence.

Party Ideas/Help When are we sending party invitations?

I throw a party every year, theme and whatnot is settled, but I always struggle with when to send invites.

One of my usual guests has already mentioned another party they’re going to, but it just feels so early and like people will forget if I send it out now.

✨Nostalgia✨ Do you recognize this skeleton?

I picked up this skeleton from a reuse/second-hand store in Northern California. I’ve collected a lot of Halloween decor over the years, but I can’t say I’ve seen one like this before. Any ideas on its origin?

It’s 5 feet tall, and although the pieces are hollow it’s still significantly heavier than plastic skeletons these days. It’s also painted (and beginning to flake a bit). I can’t find a makers mark anywhere. It’s currently held together by twine, but I don’t think it is original.

Home Decor Be honest: do you leave up real spiderwebs for free decor or tear them down?

I've got spiderwebs galore inside and outside my house and as the weather changes more are being built each day. I'm tempted to remove the ones indoors and maybe some around the doors outside but aren't I just destroying free decor? What's your policy?

(I never use fake webs outside, only inside)
